Alamo Cave on The Hinson Trail
While hiking along the Florida Trail which ties in with The Hinson Trail I discovered this amazing cave formation. It sits beside the Chipola River on the north loop. The limestone has been eroded away to create this cave. Many neat geological features along this trail!

Arbor Day at the Caverns: 'It's always a good time to plant a tree'
(Description by Angie Cook / ©Jackson County Floridan)
MARIANNA — Clear skies and a bright midday sun helped lessen the effects of Saturday's chilly air, making it a beautiful day to plant a redbud tree at Florida Caverns State Park.
Gathering near Blue Hole, a small group of spectators and members of Friends of the Florida Caverns watched as Park Specialist Billy Bailey led a quiet tree-planting ceremony to commemorate Arbor Day.
The park's newest tree was dedicated to Chattahoochee botanist, conservationist and storyteller Angus Gholson Jr. , who recently passed away at age 92.
Friends member Mark Hebb got help from two siblings from Dothan, Ala., who were visiting the park that day. Joseph Sherwood, 11, and Bekah Stinson, 12, pitched in to help loosen the roots on the young redbud and pack the dirt to support the tree as it grows. Also lending a hand was reluctant gardener Leah, Bailey's 2-year-old daughter.

Torreya State Park and Dead Lakes
150 foot high bluffs overlooking the Apalachicola River make Torreya State Park a scenic place. The depressions in the ground that mark the Confederate gun emplacements and the 1849 Gregory House make is a historic place. The park is named for an extremely rare species of Torreya tree that only grows on the bluffs along the Apalachicola River. Torreya is popular for camping, hiking, picnicking, and bird-watching. Located 13 miles north of Bristol, Florida.
Dead Lakes was formed when sand bars created by the current of the Apalachicola River blocked the Chipola River. The ensuing high water killed thousands of trees in the floodplain, giving the area its name.

After canoeing 51 miles of the Chipola river for the last 3 days, diving/passing over 62 springs, finding many cave systems and seeing all kinds of wild life; I can say, life is full of beautiful things that sometimes you can't decide the best words to describe it, however you don't need to. Just decide to give yourself those opportunities....Dale
