The King Center for the Performing Arts of Eastern Florida State College in partnership with the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse is excited to announce the third annual Summer Musical Theatre Project, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE!
The fun continues as the cast of students from the Summer Musical Theatre Project get ready to hit the stage with the culmination of the five-week long project, Broadway's musical comedy hit, Thoroughly Modern Millie. THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston. It's the 1920's musical that has taken Broadway by storm, winning the TONY Award for BEST MUSICAL! Taking place in New York City in 1922, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Based on the popular movie, the stage version of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers. Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. Come on out and support our strong cast of singers, dancers and other behind the scene roles made up of students from our Space Coast community. It's going to be a great show! HISTORY OF THE RIVER DRAGON - Dragon Point Merritt Island, FL
This documentary details Brevard's most unique monument, the 100 ft. concrete dragon that rests on the tip of Merritt Island, Florida. Built by a warlock in 1971 and originally met with unfavorable opinions from local residents, it has since been an occasion for fund raisers, an attraction, an inspiration for artists, and the landmark of a community, with an uncertain future.
I produced this on VHS back in 1996. I grew up in the area and thought locals might enjoy seeing a little history on this former landmark.

At the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, this area, a sand flat without a tree, but surrounded by an extensive forest, was the camp site of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, the most unusual regiment in the history of the United States Army.
The Rough Riders (1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment), 1200 strong - included cowboys, Indians, polo players, ranchers, hunters, socialites, lawmen, trappers, et al. This hodge podge group left Tampa to fight in the hills of Cuba for their belief that All Men Should Be Free.

The Movement is an American band originally formed in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2004. The two founding members, Josh Swain and Jordan Miller, then relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they acquired a live rhythm section in the form of local Philadelphia musicians Jay Schmidt and Gary Jackson. Jorden left the band in 2012 leading to a temporary hiatius until Josh took over as frontman later that year. Their music is commonly described as a fusion of rock, reggae, hip hop and acoustic.
