Historic Covered Bridges in Frederick County Md
There are 3 historic covered Bridges in Frederick County Maryland, all located near Thurmont Md. Loy's Station Covered Bridge is located on Old Frederick Road, adjacent to Loy's Station Regional Park. The bridge covers Owens Creek at a popular fishing spot.
The second is Roddy Road Covered Bridge on the corner of Roddy Road and Roddy Creek Road, covering another part of Owens Creek. Roddy Road Covered bridge is the shortest of the bridges at just under 40 feet.
The third historic Covered Bridge is Utica Mills Covered Bridge, on Utica Mills Road, spanning Fishing Creek. Utica is the longest of the bridges at 101 feet.

Frederick Municipal Forest is a 7000-acre oasis only 15 minutes away from busy Frederick Maryland. This watershed forest has over 11 miles of gravel, dirt, and slightly rocky roads coursing throughout. These easy roads would certainly not be considered an off-road destination, but they are a fine way to spend a few hours exploring the forest. There are no facilities in this forest, but plenty to do while cruising the trails. There are 12 ponds to explore, 2 are stocked with trout. There are miles of native and stocked trout streams. Other opportunities are hiking, picnicking, hunting, and scenic overlooks.

Frederick County, Maryland: Bicycle Adventures
We invite you to explore scenic, Frederick County, Maryland by bicycle. The unique geography provides a wealth of cycling opportunities to suit a wide variety of skill levels. Begin your bicycling journey at the Frederick Visitor Center and pick up a couple of bicycling brochures that offer a variety of tours throughout the terrain.
The Frederick History Bicycle Loop is a 10-mile loop through the City of Frederick, named a “Bicycle Friendly Community” by the League of American Bicyclists, with stops at 22 sites. Most of the sites have ties to Frederick’s rich history, from Schifferstadt Architectural Museum to the Hessian Barracks to the Francis Scott Key Memorial and Civil War sites. The Frederick History Bicycle Loop takes at least two hours to complete or it can be spread out over an entire day of exploration through the Frederick’s 50-block historic district.
The Frederick County Heritage Bicycle Tours brochure outlines five distinctly different tour routes throughout Frederick County, each offering unique experiences. From Civil War History to the covered bridges of northern Frederick County, this detailed bicycling brochure will get you out into the rolling hills of our scenic byways.

Frederick County is a county located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Maryland, bordering the southern border of Pennsylvania and the northeastern border of Virginia. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population was 233,385.
It is a part of the Washington Metropolitan Area, yet is also sometimes recognized as part of Western Maryland. The county is home to Catoctin Mountain Park (encompassing the presidential retreat Camp David) and to the U.S. Army's Fort Detrick. The county seat is Frederick, which was home to several celebrated historical figures like Francis Scott Key, Thomas Johnson, Roger B. Taney, and Barbara Fritchie.
Etymology
The exact namesake of Frederick County and its eponymous county seat is unknown, but they may have been named after either Frederick, Prince of Wales, or Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore.

GWS Presents Nzadi Keita, Department of English, Ursinus College Leigh Fought, Department of History, LeMoyne College Exploring the Lives of Anna Douglass Through History and Poetry 5:00pm, Wednesday, September 26th This event is co-sponsored by the History Department and the English Department.
Dr. M. Nzadi Keita is Associate Professor at Ursinus College. Dr. Keita's poems appear in The Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean South and A Face to Meet the Faces: An Anthology of Contemporary Persona Poetry, as well as MELUS Journal and Nocturnes Literary Review. Her most recent major project, Brief Evidence of Heaven, is a manuscript-in-progress of personal poems examining the life of Anna Murray Douglass. She teaches courses in African American literature, Caribbean literature, and creative writing. .
Dr. Leigh Fought is Assistant Professor at Le Moyne College. She is the author of Southern Womanhood Slavery: A Biography of Louisa S. McCord (University of Missouri 2003) and served as associate editor on the first volume of Frederick Douglass's correspondence, published by Yale University Press in 2009. She teaches courses in United States history and world civilization. Currently, she is at work on Frederick Douglass's Women, to be published by Oxford University Press in late 2013.
