Historic Park Inn, Mason City, Iowa, United States
This is a video of our trip from Minneapolis to Mason City and our stay at the Historic Park Inn. The building was designed and built by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and was recently outfitted by a 20 million dollar renovation. The rooms are great, even if not all of the rooms are so spacious like ours :-) The food and the service at the 1910 grille was outstanding, so we strongly recommend a stay at this historic place in Mason City, Iowa.

Historic Park Inn - Frank Lloyd Wright Designed Hotel in Mason City, Iowa video
Frank Lloyd Wright's Historic Park Inn recently was my hotel of choice on a recent business trip in Iowa. This architectural wonder is the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright designed and built hotel in the world. It's architectural features are legendary, fascinating and curious. This building was formerly City National Bank - one of only two remaining Frank Lloyd Wright designed banks in the world. And Frank Lloyd Wright's personal life was just as interesting. This tour through the hotel (which was formerly a bank) will surely enlighten and amuse you. Enjoy.
Historic Park Inn: Lobby & Skylight Room (Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in Mason City, IA)
A brief look at the Skylight Room, lobby mezzanine, and hotel lobby. There are numerous other videos and images online of the exterior and interior details, I just wanted to add a brief video of the primary public space. More context about the structure below:
The Historic Park Inn consists of what were originally two adjacent commercial buildings, the Park Inn Hotel and City National Bank, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1910. The Park Inn Hotel was the third hotel of six designed by Wright (the most famous was the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, completed in 1923); however it is the only one of his hotels still in existence. The portion of the building that was originally the City National Bank is also one of only two remaining Frank Lloyd Wright designed banks in the world. After decades of neglect and haphazard alterations, the building received an $18m, full restoration, completed in 2011 that restored the two buildings and turning the old bank lobby into the ballroom for the new, 27-room hotel. It is located in downtown Mason City, Iowa, approximately two hours from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

MASON CITY: Wright Designs
MASON CITY, IA - (CBS2/FOX28) Quick, name the most famous architect of all time. Chances are good Frank Lloyd Wright is the only architect most of us know by name as well as for the buildings he designed. Fortunately for all of us, some of those turn of the century structures are just up the road in Iowa. Long after his death in 1959, Wright's amazing artistry stands the test of time. Some have called him cantankerous, others egotistical, but no one can deny his genius and the way he revolutionized the spaces we live and work in even today. Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Style literally knocked down barriers, opening up the walls that had defined cracker box homes and attempting to erase the lines that separated the people inside from the nature outside. Mason City boasts two incredible examples of his work in a glorious hotel and a beautiful home. Both were saved from demolition by a community that is passionate about Wright's work and anxious to share it with visitors. It's a story of celebrity, dedication and even a little scandal. Words seem inadequate to describe the creations of this master designer, they are meant to please the eye and the soul. Bring your camera as we take you ROAD TRIPPIN' Wright up the interstate to Mason City.
