The Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, displaying and interpreting artifacts, antiques, books, documents, photographs and oral history relative to the history of diving. We tell the international story of man's attempts to explore,understand and venture under the sea. We also celebrate the special role that south Florida and the Florida keys played in this untold story.
Art McKee: The Father of Modern Treasure Hunting at the History of Diving Museum
The evolution of modern salvage diving can be understood through life of one man. Arthur McKee Jr., considered the father of modern treasure hunting, was the first to recognize that the reef-riddled Florida Keys provided a precious landscape for wrecked ships carrying even more precious cargo. He would be the first to salvage these ships, and in the process, become a pioneer in the salvage industry and the history of diving.

Windley Key provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the geology of the Florid Keys. Here, you can walk down into the Quarries and see how limestone was excavated for building Henry Flagler’s Railroad. Along the quarry walls, you can see fossilized corals that date back over a hundred thousand years. This is truly an magical place to learn about the Earth’s past here in Florida.

The Christ Statue - Key Largo Dry Rocks
Along with Molasses Reef, the Christ statue is one of the most visited dive spots in Key Largo. This 9-foot tall bronze statue of Christ rests in 25 feet of water, and was created by Italian sculptor Guido Galletti. It was donated to John Pennekamp Park in 1965. Christ of the Deep is a copy of the Christ of the Abyss statue, which resides in the Mediterranean Sea near Genoa, Italy. This reef is excellent for both scuba diving and snorkeling, and part of the reef comes out of the water at low tide.

Islander Islamorada
Esse excelente hotel em Islamorada, está muito bem localizado, próximo do Teather of the Sea, do History of Diving Museum, do Restaurante Lorelei, e de muitos outros restaurantes. A 5 milhas do hotel tem uma loja grande e muito boa do Winn Dixie. O quarto que ficamos era muito bom, com cama king size, cozinha completa com forno, banheiro com banheira, varanda com mesa e cadeiras, cutina black out, mesa de jantar, guarda roupa grande com cofre, tv 42 polegadas com canais a cabo e tudo mais.
O hotel tem um museu de pesca que não chegamos a visitar, pois a área da piscina e a praia foram muito mais atrativas. É possível fazer snorkel, pescar, andar de caiaque, pedalinho e jet sky, tudo isso na praia privativa do hotel.
A área da piscina é uma atração à parte, com três piscinas, sendo uma aquecida com hidromassagem.
