Ho Chi Minh Historical Site, Udon Thani, Thailand
During 1928 and 1929, Ho Chi Mihn used the jungle around Hong Hang village as one of his bases to train soldiers and rally Isan's sizeable Vietnamese community for his resistance against the French occupation of Vietnam. The proud local Vietnamese community has built a replica of his thatched-roof, mud-wall house and a big museum. Qutoed from Lonely Planet.
To get there:
Go by the road no. 2263 (Towards Kut Chap). There will be lots of english signs to get you there. It is approx. 10 km. from Udon Thani.
Well worth a small trip/sightseeing.
Udon Thani - Chinese Opulence to Ho Chi Minh's Thai Hideaway
The North Eastern region of Thailand is home to many fascinating places of interest. Our first stop was Udon Thani's Sino Thai Cultural Center and Temple, open 365 days a year, and obviously 7 days a week. The Center was developed to strengthen & showcase the long term cultural relationship between Thailand and China, and to promote Bi-lateral relations between the 2 countries and peoples. Afterwards, we travelled10 Kilometers west of Udon Thani on the Udon Kunjab Road to Hoi Chi Minh's House and Educational Center. Major funding from the Siam Commercial Bank and the BIDV the Bank of Investment and Development of Vietnam enabled the construction of the Hoi Chi Minh Museum. Adjacent the Museum we find the original dwelling and home to the first settlement of the Vietnamese in Thailand. Hoi Chi Minh used the facility to train and educate troops. President Hoi Chi Minh lived in Thailand for a 2 year period from 1928 to 1930 in a total of 9 different provinces.

Lao NEWS on LNTV: Ho Chi Minh, an outstanding politician of Vietnam & 1st president.19/5/2015
VO President Ho Chi Minh, an outstanding politician of Vietnam and its first president
INTRO: The Vietnamese annually celebrate President or Uncle Hồ Chí Minh's Birthday on May 19. He was an outstanding politician of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and its first president. This special story is to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh.
STORY: President Ho Chi Minh was a visionary leader of the communist movement in Indochina, and an international supporter of the struggle for liberation from the former colonial powers.
President Ho Chi Minh was born in Kim Lien village, Nam Dan district in Nghe An province on May 19, 1890. Today marks the 125th anniversary of his birthday. He was born to a simple farming family; his father was a teacher who served and loved his country and detested bureaucracy and French colonialism. Ho Chi Minh devoted his life to liberating Vietnam and the struggle to eliminate domination, repression and colonialism across the globe.
As founder of the Indochina Communist Party and first President of Vietnam, ‘Uncle' Ho Chi Minh was a great leader of the Vietnamese people, a close friend to many nations around the world and held strong respect for the Lao people.
He learnt and rapidly developed an interest in the theories of Marx and Lenin. Ho Chi Minh always remembered the words of Lenin - “Studies never end”.
Applying this maxim throughout his life, Ho Chi Minh studied numerous foreign languages, learning to speak and write French, English, Chinese, Thai, Italian, Russian and Spanish.
President Ho Chi Minh was an activist in international communism to liberate all countries from the yoke of both old and new colonialism, and closely followed the actions of Lao partisans in the revolution to overthrow the old colonial regime prior to the establishment of the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.
Fighting spread across the nation in the 1920s, during which time Ho Chi Minh visited Xiengvang village in Nongbok district, Khammuan province, to stay informed of the situation. In the same period, Ho Chi Minh visited Udon Thani and Nong Khai provinces in Thailand, gathering Lao revolutionaries there to give direction on how to fight and unite the Lao people throughout their country.
On February 3, 1930, Ho Chi Minh established the Indochina Communist Party, advising Laos to follow suit and assemble their own committee to lead the Lao revolution.
His advice was acted upon in 1934 when a conference was held on Don Xingxou island in Vientiane to establish the Khaen Lao Party Committee.
Later, at the 2nd Congress of the Indochina Communist Party in 1951, Ho Chi Minh suggested that Cambodia and Laos establish their own parties by adhering to Marxist-Leninist theory.
In future years as Vietnamese President, Ho Chi Minh continued to advise leading Vietnamese officials and the people of his country to support the Lao revolution in all fields.
In reference to achieving victory over both old and new colonialism, President Ho Chi Minh said “If the Lao revolution is not victorious and the colonialists do not leave Laos, the Vietnamese revolution and Vietnam itself will no longer exist.”
Lao leaders including President Souphanouvong and President Kaysone Phomvihane worked with President Ho Chi Minh in the long fight against foreign aggressors to release their country from servitude and achieve independence as did the leaders of the Indochina countries.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Laos ( (listen), ; Lao: ລາວ, Lāo [láːw]), officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao: ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ, translit. Sathalanalat Paxathipatai Paxaxon Lao; French: République démocratique populaire lao), commonly referred to by its colloquial name of Muang Lao (Lao: ເມືອງລາວ, Muang Lao), is a socialist state and the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia at the heart of the Indochinese peninsula, bordered by Myanmar (Burma) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the southwest, and Thailand to the west and southwest.Present-day Laos traces its historic and cultural identity to the kingdom of Lan Xang Hom Khao (Kingdom of a Million Elephants Under the White Parasol), which existed for four centuries as one of the largest kingdoms in Southeast Asia. Due to Lan Xang's central geographical location in Southeast Asia, the kingdom became a popular hub for overland trade, becoming wealthy economically as well as culturally. After a period of internal conflict, Lan Xang broke off into three separate kingdoms—Luang Phrabang, Vientiane and Champasak. In 1893, it became a French protectorate, with the three territories uniting to form what is now known as the country of Laos. It briefly gained freedom in 1945 after Japanese occupation, but was recolonised by France until it won autonomy in 1949. Laos became independent in 1953, with a constitutional monarchy under Sisavang Vong. Shortly after independence, a long civil war ended the monarchy, when the Communist Pathet Lao movement came to power in 1975. During the first years of Communist rule, Laos was dependent on military and economic aid supported by the Soviet Union until its dissolution in 1991.
According to the anti-corruption non-governmental organisation Transparency International, Laos remains one of the most corrupt countries in the world. This has deterred foreign investment and created major problems with the rule of law, including the nation's ability to enforce contract and business regulation. This has contributed to a third of the population of Laos currently living below the international poverty line (living on less than US$1.25 per day). Laos has a low-income economy, with one of the lowest annual incomes in the world. In 2014, the country ranked 141st on the Human Development Index (HDI), indicating lower medium development. According to the Global Hunger Index (2015), Laos ranks as the 29th hungriest nation in the world out of the list of the 52 nations with the worst hunger situation(s). The country has also had a poor human rights record.
Laos is a member of the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), East Asia Summit and La Francophonie. Laos applied for membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1997; on 2 February 2013, it was granted full membership. It is a one-party socialist republic espousing Marxism–Leninism governed by the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, in which the party leadership is dominated by military figures. The capital and largest city is Vientiane. Other major cities include Luang Prabang, Savannakhet and Pakse. The official language is Lao. Laos is a multi-ethnic country, with the politically and culturally dominant Lao people making up about 55 percent of the population, mostly in the lowlands. Mon-Khmer groups, the Hmong and other indigenous hill tribes, accounting for 45 percent of the population, live in the foothills and mountains. Laos's ambitious strategies for development are based on generating electricity from its rivers and selling the power to its neighbours, namely Thailand, China and Vietnam, as well as its initiative to become a land-linked nation, shown by the planning of four new railways connecting Laos to its neighbours. Laos has been referred to as one of East Asia and Pacifi ...
