Hoboken is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 50,005, having grown by 11,428 (+29.6%) from 38,577 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 5,180 (+15.5%) from the 33,397 in the 1990 Census. Hoboken is part of the New York metropolitan area and is the site of Hoboken Terminal, a major transportation hub for the tri-state region.
Hoboken was first settled as part of the Pavonia, New Netherland colony in the 17th century. During the early 19th century the city was developed by Colonel John Stevens, first as a resort and later as a residential neighborhood. Originally part of Bergen Township and later North Bergen Township, it became a separate township in 1849 and was incorporated as a city in 1855. Hoboken is the location of the first recorded game of baseball and of the Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the oldest technological universities in the United States. It is also well known for being the birthplace and hometown of American singer Frank Sinatra, and there are parks and streets located in the city that are named for him.
Located on the Hudson Waterfront, the city was an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey and home to major industries for most of the 20th century. The character of the city has changed from a blue collar town to one of upscale shops and condominiums. It has been ranked 2nd in Niche's 2019 Best Places to Live in Hudson County list.

The 100th Anniversary of the Black Tom Explosion - Chad Millman
The Hoboken Historical Museum inaugurated its World War I Centennial lecture series, Heaven, Hell, or Hoboken, on August 21, 2016 with Chad Millman, author of The Detonators, an in-depth look at the July 1916 sabotage plot to blow up a munitions depot off the shore of Jersey City, on a piece of land once known as Black Tom Island. The explosion shattered glass for miles around, yet the incident was initially downplayed, to avoid stoking public support for America's entry into World War I.

While the rest of the world lost one of its most beloved entertainers, the town of Hoboken in New Jersey lost its favorite son.
Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915 in a tough, working-class neighborhood of Hoboken.
On Friday, childhood friends and fans alike gathered at his birthplace to reminisce and swap their favorite stories about Ol' Blue Eyes.
Hoboken, New Jersey, touts itself as a town famous for two things - baseball and Frank Sinatra.
The town across the Hudson River from New York City was the founding place of the sport of baseball.
But on Friday, it was more notable as the birthplace of another great American creation: Frank Sinatra.
While millions of fans loved Ol' Blue Eyes, here in the neighborhood where he grew up, the residents actually knew the American legend himself.
The home where Sinatra was born burned down years ago, leaving only a brick wall, a wooden door and an arch.
But set into the sidewalk is a bronze plaque that reads Francis Albert Sinatra - The Voice. Born here at 415 Monroe Street, December 12, 1915.
A loyal Sinatra fan, Peter LaBarbiera, said Sinatra was probably Hoboken's best export.

It was here that people are gathering a day after Sinatra's death to mourn and reminisce about not only a great entertainer but - for many of them - a childhood friend.

It seems that everyone in Hoboken has some kind of personal connection to the crooner that they treasure.
Some have photos of a young Frank frequenting their stores or relaxing at their homes.
Others told of letters and stories of good deeds done by a man who never forgot his hometown.

All I know is that he was a good fellow. He was terrific and the guy helped a lot of people and he hated it when people talked about it. That he didn't like. I know that for a fact.

An old friend, Dolly Della Bella, proudly presented the actual letter that Frank Sinatra had sent her husband, who had been taken ill a long time ago.

When my Joe was in the nursing home, my husband was sick in the nursing home, and Frankie found out and he sent the letter right to the nursing home. See?

Before Sinatra died of a heart attack on Thursday in Los Angeles, he hadn't been back to Hoboken in about 17 years.
But that seems to matter little to the people here who say they'll mourn him for a long time to come.

We dockt alway's on the Hoboken Holland America Pier New Jersey. On the corner of the 4 th street was the Seaman home. In 1962 the HAL moved to the other site of the Hudson pier 40 New York. My last visit was with my daughter Marie Claire in 2007, see the difference.

The largest Firefighter Museum on Eastern Seaboard
Linwood Collins joined the Marines in 1944 and served in World War II. In 1957, he was sworn in as Trenton’s first African-American firefighter. Linwood Collins widow Ethel Collins was Trenton’s first female parking enforcement office.
The day was also a dedication to the new sign (letters) that are mounted on the Trenton Fire Museum building of which was founded in 1959 by Fire Captain (now retired) Edward Gore, and in 1974, renamed for its co-founder and first curator, Meredith Havens. Through the years the Museum has accumulated a collection of firefighting artifacts and memorabilia, considerably enhanced by the acquisition of the Walter F. Smith collection of local and national firefighting objects.
Approximately 4,000 items and 680 historic photographs are now included in the collection of which is known as the largest collection on the Eastern Seaboard.
