New Jersey: Hudson River Waterfront Walkway ( Hoboken Waterfront)
The Hudson River Waterfront Walkway is a spectacular pathway on the western shore of the Hudson River in New Jersey. The state has planned the Walkway to exist immediately adjacent to the river in a continuously connected 30 foot wide path from the tip of Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge. The Walkway provides free access 24/7 for the enjoyment of the general public.
The Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy is the organization dedicated to monitoring the completion and consistent maintenance and upkeep of the 18.5 linear mile plan. Among its goals are the preservation of the scenic values afforded by the walkway and the implementation of the State rules and regulations concerning the development and use of the Walkway.

Hoboken Views ~ Maxwell Place, Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, & Manhattan Skyline
Maxwell Place, a modern condominium complex along the Hudson River, occupies the former site of Hoboken's famous Maxwell House Coffee plant, a Bauhaus-style building dating from 1939. The Maxwell House facility was the largest coffee plant in the world, and with its famous Good to the last drop neon sign, was visible across the Hudson River from Manhattan. The plant closed in 1992.
The Hoboken waterfront since has been transformed from an area of old factories, docks, and shipyards to one of upscale condos and shops, with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline.

Hudson River Waterfront Walkway at Port Imperial, Weehawken, New Jersey
Views from the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway at Port Imperial, Weehawken, New Jersey. I had just taken the ferry from New York Waterway's 39th Street ferry terminal in Manhattan after visiting several ships (visible in this video) that were in port for Fleet Week and Operation Sail: the USS Wasp (LHD 1), the U.S. Coast Guard barque Eagle, the ARC Gloria (Colombia), and the BAE Guayas (Ecuador). The cruise ship Disney Magic was berthed at Pier 88, and sailed shortly after I shot this video.
NJ Transit's Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line offers fast and frequent service to Port Imperial, and ferries run back and forth between Port Imperial and Manhattan throughout the day. Thanks to the walkway, it now is possible to walk south along the Hudson River to Hoboken and Jersey City from this point, with terrific views of the river and the Manhattan skyline all along the way. The Empire State Building and One World Trade Center, under construction at this date, are just two of the prominent landmarks clearly visible from the New Jersey waterfront.

Also seen here is the Hudson Waterfront 9/11 Memorial, which incorporates two steel tridents salvaged from one of the twin towers of the World Trade Center, destroyed in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001. The memorial pays tribute to Weehawken residents who perished on that day. The newly built Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center site is clearly visible from the memorial.

Walking south along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway from the Katyn Memorial to the Goldman Sachs Tower, we view the Jersey City 9/11 Memorial remembering Jersey City residents who died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center; a steel beam retrieved from one of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center; the Paulus Hook New York Waterway ferry terminal; and the famous Colgate Clock on the west bank of the Hudson River at the entrance to the Morris Canal. This section of the waterfront walkway is directly across the river from the World Trade Center, and on 9/11/2001 many evacuees from the Twin Towers were ferried across the Hudson to this spot. Today, the Freedom Tower--One World Trade Center--rises just north of Ground Zero, the site of the Twin Towers.

New York Harbor tour, part 10: Jersey City waterfront, from Newport to the Colgate Clock
The tenth in a series of videos from an evening cruise around New York Harbor and along the Hudson River aboard a New York Water Taxi boat, sponsored by the Working Harbor Committee.
After continuing southward down the North River (i.e., the Hudson) after passing Hoboken, we come to Jersey City.
Much like Hoboken's, Jersey City's waterfront used to consist largely of docks, rail yards, and factories. In recent years, this section of the city has undergone extensive redevelopment, with shopping malls as well as upscale condominiums, hotels, and modern office buildings where the docks and rail yards once stood. With complexes such as the Harborside Financial Center and the Goldman Sachs Tower (the tallest building in New Jersey), this area is now a center for the financial industry and is sometimes referred to as Wall Street West. The Hudson River Walkway runs along the waterfront, allowing pedestrians to enjoy great views of the Manhattan skyline across the Hudson.
The Colgate Clock, seen near the end of this video, is a famous local landmark. It used to stand atop the Colgate-Palmolive Building (since demolished). The hands were recently removed, but there is a plan to restore the clock to its original condition.
On-board commentary heard in this video was provided by maritime historian, author, and lecturer Bill Miller and by Captain John Doswell.
Video shot on the evening of June 11, 2013.
