The Hohensyburg , also called Sigiburg or Syburg , is located on the Syberg above the confluence of Ruhr and Lenne in the artificially created Hengsteysee in the southern district of Syburg in Dortmund . The Hohensyburg is a popular destination. Nearby are since 1952 the natural stage Hohensyburg and since 1985 additionally the casino Hohensyburg . The area is designated and protected as a nature reserve Ruhrsteilhänge Hohensyburg . The Syburg Mining Route opens up relics of modern mining.
Stone Age finds prove the early presence of humans in the Syburger area and first traces of settlement lead into the Bronze Age around 700 BC. The first written mention dates from the year 775, when according to the Lorsch Annals the Frankish army of Charlemagne conquered the Saxon Sigiburg and used this as a defensive system against the Saxons . The resident Falen were a (western) Saxon tribal group. The Hohensyburg also got an important function for the Christianization of the Teutons. The castle crew and Widukind were expelled by Charlemagne. According to a ChristianQuelle should have helped him a miracle to conquer the castle.
The former archeology student Detlev Rothe calls the two castle ruins Sigiburg I and II. Both are ring wall installationswhose remains are difficult to locate, which is why most authors speak of only one castle, according to Rothe. In fact, the historian Fiedler and the hobby archaeologist Kuhlmann call only one plant, whose wall-ditch system is particularly well recognizable. Also in the southeast the wall guidance is still clearly recognizable. In these excavations in the years 1950, 1951 and again in 1976, foundation remains of a previous building were actually discovered and dated to 776 on the basis of the mention in the documents. The only thing that is certain for the time being is that the predecessor building is older than the Romanesque church, because lack of small finds complicates an exact dating. Due to the excavations of 1976, the interpretation as a Carolingian church can no longer be maintained. It is worth noting that the excavators because of the remains of brown and black earthenware construction in eitherEarly Middle Ages , more specifically in the Saxon-Frankish period, or refer to the prehistoric period.
On the Hohensyburg is the Vincketurm , an octagonal, neo-gothic and 26 meter high lookout tower. It was built in 1857 on the highest point of the Syberg ( 244.63 m above sea level ) in memory of the former Chief President of Westphalia Ludwig von Vincke (1774-1844). The honor Vinckes was due to great merit for the establishment of Westphalia after the French rule during the Département Ruhr . The tower is made of Ruhr sandstone .

Dortmund-Syburg is the southernmost district of Dortmund.
Syburg is popular, and most expensive Dortmund rural residential
areas. The place is mainly characterized by single family homes.

well-Totenhof oldest grave stones are found in the Ruhr area from
the 9th century
The construction of the stone castle Syburg is dated 1150th &
is a hilltop castle archbishops of Cologne and is related to the
country's development in the 12th Century.
Inside the ruins there is a circa 1930 designed by sculptor
Frederick Bagdons war memorial. The monument depicts a fallen
soldier lying in the uniform of a German war party from the First
World War I. At the height of his left lower leg wakes an apparently
acting eagle. Very close to the war memorial are three tables of stone,
erected by the Syburger community in memory of the victims of war
Syburger from the wars of 1870/71, World War I and World War II.
Vincke tower, an octagonal, Gothic Revival and 26 meter high
observation tower. It was built in 1857 on the highest point of
the Sybergs (244.63 m above sea level) in memory of the former
Upper Rhine Westphalia President Ludwig von Vincke (1774-1844)
Kaiser Wilhelm I monument
on the 245-meter high Syberg, erected in memory of Kaiser Wilhelm I
monument with addition to still images of Otto von Bismarck and von Moltke.
The monument was built from 1893 to 1902 by Adolf von Donndorf and
30 June 1902 passed the public.

As a haunted house or haunted house Hohensyburg (partly haunted house
or haunted house Syburg Syburg) was named an abandoned and partially
destroyed house, which was located near the ruins Hohensyburgstraße

Dortmund is a city in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. It's known for its Westfalen Stadium, home to the Borussia soccer team. Nearby Westfalen Park is marked by the Florian Tower, with its observation platform. The Dortmund U-Tower is topped by a huge letter U and houses Museum Ostwall’s contemporary art exhibits. Rombergpark botanical garden has local trees and greenhouses with cacti and tropical plants.
Football (soccer) is a major Dortmund passion. Borussia Dortmund, the city’s Bundesliga (premier league) team, has won the national championships an impressive eight times. So it's actually quite appropriate that Dortmund was chosen as the site of the German Football Museum, which opened in 2015. Other attractions include several treasure-filled churches and high-calibre art museums.
As the largest city in the Ruhrgebiet, Dortmund once built its prosperity on coal, steel and beer. These days, the mines are closed and the steel mills quiet, with more zeitgeist-compatible high-tech industries having taken their place. Only the breweries are going as strong as ever, churning out oceans of beer and ale, much of it for export.
The city popping up first when people think of the Ruhr valley and that's no surprise. Being the largest Ruhr City, it is also the third largest by population after Cologne and Duesseldorf and the geographical center of the State North Rhine-Westphalia . Worldwide the City is foremost know for Beer (pale export/lager beer called Dortmunder) and the famous sports club Ballspielverein Borussia 09, Borussia Dortmund or BVB fort short. However, the city is so much more than the reputation (Football, Beer and Industry) and has itself no need to shy away from the Cities on the Rhine. And yes, the city is no classy beauty and rough at first glance, though pretty honest, adorable and cordially at the second.
Founded around 882, Dortmund became an Imperial Free City. Throughout the 13th to 14th centuries, it was the chief city of the Rhine, Westphalia, the Netherlands Circle of the Hanseatic League. After the Thirty Years' War the city was destroyed and decreased in significance until the onset of industrialization. The city then became one of Germany's most important coal, steel and beer centres. Dortmund acquired the nickname Stahlstadt (Steel City) in the 19th century, when it became the world center of steel production. Consequently the city was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II. The devastating bombing raids of 12 March 1945 destroyed 98% of buildings in the inner city center. This bombing raids with more than 1,110 aircraft was a record to a single target in World war II.The region has adapted since the collapse of its century long steel and coal industries and shifted to high technology biomedical technology, micro systems technology and also services.

In der naturbelassenen Sumpflandschaft genießen unzählige Tierearten ideale Lebensbedingungen. Das Schloss Syburg wurde im 11ten Jahrhundert erbaut und gehört zu den ältesten Adelssitzen Mittelfrankens. Als ein besonders bemerkenswertes Kulturdenkmal beschrieb es Fürst Ernst August zur Lippe. Der Schloss Komplex steht nun zum Verkauf. Das Haupthauses ist das Prunkstück der Anlage. Der Springbrunnen ziert den Schlosshof. Die Stallungen und die Nebengeäude sind renovierungsbedürftig. Der Schlossgarten ist mit einer Mauer umgeben. Das wunderschöne Pavillion und die Orangerie schmücken die weitläufige Gartenanlage.

Mauereidechse im NSG Hohensyburg in Dortmund, 2013
Fast 2 Stunden lang hab ich die Steilwände an der Hohensyburg in Dortmund abgesucht, um die auf der roten Liste mit Vorwarnstufe stehende Mauereidechse zu finden.
Was mir dann ja auch gelungen ist, wie man unschwer erkennen kann.
Und zwar an der hintersten Ecke, da wo man den Blick auf die Ruhr Richtung Burg Volmarstein werfen kann, an der steilabfallenden Mauer zum Naturschutzgebiet Steilhänge Hohensyburg. Ich musste mich ziemlich über die Mauer lehnen und die Kamera zeitweise am Stativ nach unten halten. Daher täuschen die Aufnahmen etwas, die Echse klettert tatsächlich an der senkrecht nach unten abfallenden Wand herum.
Und durch meine ständigen akrobatischen Verrenkungen hat natürlich auch etwas die Qualität der Aufnahmen gelitten.
Aber was solls, ich wollte die Echse und ich hab sie gefunden.
