Vietnamese Countryside Tour & Vietnamese Meal at Tra Que Herb Village Water Wheel Hoi An, Vietnam
We've thoroughly enjoyed spending most of our days exploring Ancient Hoi An; however, when we had a chance to bike out to the Vietnamese countryside to visit Tra Que Village for dinner at restaurant noted for its water wheel, we couldn't pass on the opportunity. One of the main highlights of being based in Hoi An are all of the nearby attractions and places worth visiting, such as farmland, small communities and several beaches. Tra Que is a quaint little village situated only 2 kilometers from the Ancient part of Hoi An city. It is famed for producing rich soil praised for its abilities to grow fresh herbs. Many tourists end up staying overnight in this village to experience the lifestyle of a rural farming community.

Given that it was a decent distance from our guest house, we decided to hop on our bicycles and head over to the community before sunset. As we pedaled along, we noticed the transition from commercial areas to farmland was very abrupt and we marveled at the Vietnamese farmers wearing conical hats tending their crops. Finally, after getting lost a few times, we pulled up to Tra Que Herb Village Water Wheel restaurant.
Walking down a path that was in between crops we eventually approached the large water wheel noticing its rustic charms.
Before we sat down to eat traditional Vietnamese cuisine we had the opportunity to actually operate the large water wheel by climbing up a set of stairs, sitting down and pedaling with our feet. It was such a thrill getting to actually set the behemoth rustic wheel in motion.
The meal itself featured some of our favorite dishes including Vietnamese country pancakes and papaya salad along with a new dish we'd never tried before - three friends.
The service was excellent as our hosts we both gracious and ever welcoming. We kicked ourselves for not coming here sooner because we certainly would have frequented this restaurant on more than one occasion.
The meal itself was a knockout; it was literally the best food we've had since arriving in Vietnam.
What made the dishes so appealing were the fresh ingredients being used from the farm along with excellent cooking technique which included very scant use of cooking oil.
Every bite was packed with an explosion of flavors and we appreciated that all of the ingredients were fresh from the organic garden. This is how food ought to prepared everywhere.
After finishing the generous portions offered to us, we bicycled back into Hoi An while experiencing a gorgeous sunset. Overall, this was an experience we'll never forget and if we're back in Hoi An again we plan on making it a part of our daily routine. Thus, we highly recommend you check out the countryside area of Tra Que:

HOW TO SPEND A DAY IN HOI AN! Prettiest town of Vietnam
Hoi An is one of my favorite towns in the world. I fell in love with it when I first came to Vietnam two years ago and from that moment on I knew I would have kept coming back.
In this video I show you some of my favorite places in Hoi An!
Starting from the Market, a great place to go very early in the morning, the food is incredibly fresh and breakfast is something from another world! If (like me) you are not a morning person don't worry you can still get some amazing food at the Central Market. If you want to follow Anthony bourdain footstep you can go have the best banh miin town at Banh Mi Phuong.
The Ancient Town—a UNESCO World Heritage site—is gorgeous. The 15th century bulilding weren't damaged during the war and are incredibly well preserved. There are cute stores and coffee shops, great restaurants (though i prefer eating at the market or in more local places) and lanterns are omnipresent. There is one catch though...the place it's insanely touristy and it can get pretty r overwhelming
But don't worry, 5 minutes outside town there's Cam Than, an area filled of rice fields and water buffalos...pack your bags, Hoi An is waiting for ya!
While I was in Hoi An I stayed at The Riverside Hamlet Villa, it's a beautiful villa by the river. What made my stay special wasn’t just the place itself it was Kiet (the owner) and his family, I think they are among the nicest people I’ve ever met, they made me feel at home from the very first minute, I ate many (incredible) meals with them and had amazing conversations about life in front of a cup of coffee with Kiet so if you are planning a visit to Hoi An definitely check this place out!
(i genuinely love them and the villa I'm not just advertising ;) )

VIETNAM OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO HANOI! Tour of Soft & Hard Sleeper
Travel by overnight sleeper train in Vietnam from Danang to Hanoi! I rode the 4-berth soft sleeper and toured the 6-berth hard sleeper near the end. Watch more Vietnam vlogs:

Hi family! Alright...so this overnight train ride to Hanoi was not the most pleasant for me; however, it is still a great way to travel Vietnam. Here are some things I'd recommend you doing if you are considering taking the sleeper train:
-DO bring food & snacks! No food cart rolled around during the entire 16 hour train ride. I kept trying to listen for the wheeling of the cart and even left my door open around dinner time. There was nothing. There was water and hot water though :) Cup o noodles team!
-DO bring jacket, scarf, or sarong that you can wear. It gets COLD at night especially as we get closer North. You can even lay them down if you're afraid of unclean bedsheets.
-DO check the door & lights in your room when you arrive in case there's some kind of malfunction. You may be able to ask the train staff (who come around sometimes) to switch to another one.
-DON'T talk super loudly and be mindful of other passengers in the room. A man ended up taking the berth next to me at 12am and was talking on the phone for a whole hour :/
-DON'T buy your tickets online if you can just get it at the station a few days earlier or even a day earlier! I met a couple of travellers who just showed up that day and booked. It is always cheaper way cheaper at the train station. OR ask your hotel staff to help you book it. Don't go to a tour agency - they'll charge you lots. I was traveling during TET so had no choice but to secure it online. If you're on last resort - check out 12go.asia (the site I use for train & ferry travel in Southeast Asia).
If you don't want to take a sleeper train but still want to experience it, take the Vietnam railway train from Hue to Danang or Danang to Hue. It is a 2.5 hour train ride with breathtaking views of Vietnam's coastline! You can just get a regular seat, no sleeper needed.
While this train ride didn't go so well for me, I know the experience is different for everyone. Take it or not, it's up to you :)! It IS way better than the overnight busses - or so I heard.
Thank you for tuning in! Hope this information helps you when traveling in Vietnam!

From Da Nang to Hoi An by Car - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
The fastest and most comfortable connection from Da Nang to Hoi An is by taxi. The ride for the about 30 km costs approx. € 20.
Da Nang is the third largest city in Vietnam and gained importance through its natural harbor. In former times, Da Nang belonged to the ancient kingdom of Champa. On the orders of Napoleon III, French troops landed here.
In the Vietnam war 1965, the first U.S. fighting forces went ashore at the China Beach. Later Da Nang was the northernmost airbase of the Americans and therefore of enormous strategic importance. During the war, the China Beach also served as a recreational beach for the fighters.
From 1967 - 1972, the German hospital ship Helgoland anchored in Da Nang, providing humanitarian aid to civilian victims on behalf of the German Red Cross and Maltese emergency service.
After a wonderful journey across the Ocean Clouds Pass by train, we are now at the main station in Da Nang and take a taxi to Hoi An.
The driver purposefully drives through the street canyons to the Nguyen Van Linh, which leads directly to the Dragon Bridge (Cau Rong), that crosses the Song Han Bay.
The Song Han is a tributary of the Bay of Danang and leads straight from the docks through the city. The Song Han runs south to the Song Thu Bon, which in turn leads through Hoi An to the sea.
From the Dragon Bridge, the road continues directly to China Beach. The fantastic sandy beach stretches as far as Hoi An. We drive past elegant beach sections, where we would have liked to jump into the water.

THE WONDERFUL HOI AN - VIETNAM AND ITS BANH MI, DUMPLING, CAO LAU AND EGG COFFEE
Location 1 of this video:
Han Market
119 Tran Phu, Hai Chau, Da Nang 550000 Vietnam
Dry and Wet Market near the bay. You can also find souvenirs and ready to eat food Like Banh Mi that we’ve tried that is a value for money.
Location 2 of this video:
Banh Mi Phuong
Pan Chu Trinh, Cam Chau, Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam
Very famous not only because it was featured by the late Chef Anthony Bourdain but also because they really serve a very good Banh Mi that’s worth buying and queuing for. This place is always crowded every time I visit. Never miss this from your Hoi An trip.
Location 3 of this video:
Hoi An Roastery Espresso & Coffee House
685 Hai Ba Trung, Phuong Minh An, Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam
Our favorite coffee shop here in Hoi An. It has many branches around the vicinity of Hoi An Ancient Heritage. I love their traditional Vietnamese and egg coffee. Also they have a friendly and helpful staffs. And the place interior is also astonishing.
Location 4 of this video:
White Rose Restaurant (Bong Hong Trang)
533 Hai Ba Trung, Phuong Cam Pho, Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam
They serve limited menu here only the homemade shrimp dumpling with open kitchen where you can see many staff preparing it. This dumpling is very bland but once you dip it in their sauce the flavors are amazing. Another one is fried wonton or their version of pizza. Must try in Hoi An.
Location 5 of this video:
Cao Lau Khong Gian Xanh
687 Hai Ba Trung, Phuong Minh An, Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam
They serve unique noodle dish here and chef is also unique because he’s not wearing a shirt while preparing our food :) The dish that we tried is great, the Cao Lao. Another must try in this town.
Location 6 of this video:
Madam Khan The Bahn Mi Queen
115 Tran Cao Bahn, Phuong Minh An, Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam
Not all Banh Mi is good but this is one of the place to go next to Banh Mi Phuong. Their bread is crunchy and the fillings are also fulfilling. If you like Kombucha, there’s a store just beside selling it. Really nice combination after savoring that Banh Mi.

Vietnam FIRST CLASS Overnight Train - How to Travel from Hanoi to Hoi An | Vietnam Trains
Vietnam overnight sleeper trains are the easiest and cheapest mode of travel between cities. Although Vietnam looks like a small country but you need to travel a lot and the major cities such as Hanoi, Hoi an and Ho Chi Minh are quite far from each other.
So how can you travel in Vietnam?
The local transportation system in Vietnam is quite good. There are local buses, trains and flights available from and to each and every city.
Vietnam overnight sleeper trains are supremely comfortable and cheap modes of travel!!!
The FIRST CLASS berths in 6-berth cabins costed me about 180,000 VND for a soft sleeper berth. There are other options as well that include hard berths, hard chairs, soft chairs and 4-berth sleeper cabins and prices vary accordingly.
The cheapest option that I found to be equally comfortable as well was the overnight train between Hanoi and Da Nang (closest railway station to Hoi an) and then you can take a 30 mins taxi ride to Hoi An city.

Follow Us as Jim shares with you his overnight first class sleeper train experience in Vietnam. He travelled started his journey from Ho Chi Minh and arrived in Danang about 16 hours later.
After doing our own research, we strongly believe that this should be the most detailed and comprehensive sharing of a train commute in Vietnam on YouTube. Not only will Jim show you where he began his journey (i.e. the train station and available amenities/ facilities), he also shares with you how the first , second and third class train cabins look like. Not forgetting a mention of facilities and service provided in the train - washrooms, a canteen carriage, service crew selling food and drinks using push carts, and so much more! Also, do you know that dogs are allowed on the train too? Find out for yourself how Jim found out this fun fact!
