East Japan Railway Company says one-third of its bullet trains used for the Hokuriku Shinkansen line have been damaged by flooding.
JR East says water entered a facility in Akanuma in Nagano Prefecture, central Japan. The Shinkansen carriage center is used to repair or store bullet trains.
Company officials say 10 trains, with a total of 120 carriages, have been confirmed damaged.
The damaged ones include eight E7 series trains and two W7 series trains, out of the 30 used for the Hokuriku line.
The officials say there are no prospects for the time being of fully resuming service on the Hokuriku line. They say they may have to restart operation with fewer trains.
The center is located 10 kilometers northeast of JR Nagano Station and on the west side of the Chikuma River, which overflowed after Typhoon Hagibis hit the area on Saturday.

Japan Rail's High Speed Train Tokyo to Kanazawa
Sorry for the awful sound track...see my explanation below:
This new ultra fast train has beautiful restrooms and overall facilities. My video is primarily a tour of the huge restroom which is located between the Green Class car (which is like business class) and the new Gran Class car, (which is like 1st class.) I added screenshots providing information about the train towards the end of the video.
I spontaneously decided to shoot and edit this video on my iPhone during our train ride to Kanazawa (from Tokyo,) I also had time to upload it to YouTube too before we arrived...primarily because the pocket WiFi's in Japan are so much better than what even our broadband networks in the states provide!
But when we arrived I'd just finished the upload so I never actually watched it. I had no idea how bad the audio track was until a few weeks later when we arrived home!!
I discovered that the ambient sounds of the train completely drowned out my narration. So I downloaded the video and tried to figure out a way to lower the train sounds but keep them thereby making the narration audible. I couldn't figure it out...at least not while using an iPad and iMovie.
When I first discovered the problem I unlisted the video. But when I discovered that I wasn't able to fix the sound (at my current skill level) so I decided to make it public once again.
Needless to say...I'm really sorry about the sound problems!
But the train was so cool and it was, and without a doubt...this was largest restroom facility I've ever seen on any moving vehicle!!! Plus that everything about this train was pristine too...except for ONE thing (which hopefully you won't notice!)
So, as of August 2016 this train was beautifully maintained and the staff was very friendly (plus they weren't at all weirded out by the fact that I was standing in the restroom for super long time, making this video :-) The whole train ride and experience was exceptional!
New Japan bullet train route links Tokyo with Kanazawa
Japan has launched a new bullet train service linking Tokyo with Kanazawa.
Operating at speeds of up to 260 kilometers an hour it will cut travel times to the ancient city by more than an hour to two hours and 28 minutes.
Whether it's for business or tourism we hope to create a new type of mindset and improve the areas involved, said East Japan Railway CEO Testuro Tomita.

Japan Railways Thunderbird Express Night on a Train With Typhoon Lan
So mid-day, we departed from Kanazawa's magnificent railway station on the 'Thunderbird Express' bound for Osaka. Our actual destination for later that day was Hiroshima. Unfortunately, because of the impending storm that was due to hit Japan, (Typhoon Lan) we had a 'slight' delay! We'd had several days of rain and since leaving Tokyo, it just wasn't letting up - now we could see why!
After an hour or so we came to a halt. With the winds getting up and rain lashing down, we rolled into a small local station, JR railway shut down the network for safety and so the long night began . . .
In the morning and because of an over night power outage, we were bused to another station 30 mins away to continue our journey and eventually (22hrs later) arrived in Hiroshima (via Kyoto) early afternoon.
No signs of major damage, except a lot of trees down and some roof tops missing - fortunately for the locals!

Kanazawa (金沢市 Kanazawa-shi) is a city located in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 January 2018, the city had an estimated population of 466,029 in 203,271 households, and a population density of 990 persons per km². The total area of the city was 468.64 square kilometres (180.94 sq mi). It is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture.

Train station ticket machines in Japan are so incredibly sophisticated, having to handle two different sizes of tickets, often with multiple tickets inserted at the same time (for the shinkansen/bullet train stations) and spit them out a fraction of a second later at the other end, thousands of times a day. Here a technician tests a machine at JR Hakata station after servicing it.

Going to the north
The Hokuriku Shinkansen have four different types of shinkansen. Travel to Kanazawa in just 2h30 ! The Asama runs between Tokyo and Nagano, The Kagayaki and Hakutaka between Tokyo and Kanazawa ( kagayaki being the faster), and the Tsurugi between Toyama and Kanazawa.
The Joetsu Shinkansen has two different types of shinkansen : the Toki is the fastest between Tokyo and Niigata (about 2h). Some Toki use 2-story train sets and are known as MAX Toki. The Tanigawa is serving all stations between Tokyo and Echigo-Yuzawa station. During the winter, some trains serve Gala Yukawa station ( access to Gala Yukawa ski resort).
The Yamagata Shinkansen has only one category of train called Tsubasa, running between Tokyo and Shin-jo in 3h30. The Torei-yu Tsubasa in a very unique train running mainly on week -ends between Fukushima and Shinjo.
The Akita Shinkansen has only one category of train called Komachi, which is only with reserved seat.
The Tohoku shinkansen has two different shinkansen : the Yamabiko is the fastest running as far north as Morioka, although some terminate at Sendai. The Nasuno is the slowest one and serves all the station between Tokyo and Koriyama.
The Hokkaido Shinkansen has two different shinkansen : the Hayabusa reach Shin Hakodate and Hokkaido in 4 hours and 2 minutes with the fastest train and all seats has to be reserved. The Hayate operates one return service per day between Morioka and Shin Hakodate and one return service between Shin Aomori and Shin Hakodate.

The Tokaido Shinkansen has three types of trains. The Nozomi is the fastest train and reach Kyoto from Tokyo in 2h40 ( only stopping at Shinagawa, Shin Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto ans Shin Osaka).
Along Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi connects Hakata and Hiroshima.
The Hikari is the second fastest bullet trains, taking about three hours from Tokyo to Shin Osaka. One 16 car Hikari train from Tokyo continues along the Sanyo Shinkansen as far as Okayama each hour. The Kodama is the slowest train as it stopped at every stations between Tokyo and Shin Osaka.
To reach the island of Kyushu, you may need to connect with the Kyushu Shinkansen, which has three types of Shinkansen.
The Mizuho is the fastest train category, stopping at Hakata, Kumamoto and Kagoshima-Chuo. it provides though service to the Sanyo Shinkansen starting from Shin-Osaka.
The two other one are called Sakura and Tsubame, the latter stopping at all stations.

Japan Rail Trip #17: Kyoto to Kanazawa - Yakiniku all you can eat 京都から金沢へ−焼肉食べ放題
We moved from Kyoto to Kanazawa by express train, 'Thunder bird'. It was long way but comfortable and enjoyable.
Unfortunately it was raining in Kanazawa which limited our opportunities to have a look around.
The hotel was a bit larger and more comfortable than your average business style hotel.
We decided on choosing a Yakiniku restaurant close by because of the weather.
The Yakiniku restaurant offered all you can eat course (tabehoudai). We decided on the 1980 yen course and it was with the price!
Beer was also reasonable price and Nige decided on the trying a dai nama for his second beer and showed the difference in size between a chou nama (medium beer) and dai nama (large beer).
Small streets in Kanazawa were are authentic Edo style and are very beautiful to walk around.
We made a note to visit Kanazawa again to spend more time to proper explore and experience what Kanazawa has to offer.

あいにく金沢ではまた雨。ホテルは今までの所より広く快適でした。雨が降っていたのでホテルの近くの焼肉レストランへ。
その焼肉屋では1980円食べ放題のコースを選びました。値段の割には美味しくてコスパ良かったです。ビールもお値打ちで美味しかったです。
細い通りがあちこちにあり、風情があってとても良かったです。

This is one of those stories that will fill your heart with joy and leave you smiling.
Kami-Shirataki, a remote train station in Japan that was meant to close down three years ago, has stayed active to cater to one lone passenger. A train makes stops at the station twice each day just so a teen can travel to and from high school.
According to reports, Kana Harada, who is among the 40-odd residents of the village of Shirataki, is the only person to board the special train at 7:04 am and return in the evening at 5:08 pm sharp.
Even though the train station was meant to shut down, Japan Railways decided to continue services just for Kana. According to the CCTV Facebook page, the station has a unique timetable keeping Kana's travel details in mind.
The station will continue the special service until March 26, Kana's graduation, and close down for good after that.
