The globally recognized HOLLYWOOD sign is spelled out in 44-foot tall (13 m) white capital letters and is 352 feet long (107 m). The sign (formerly the Hollywoodland Sign) is an American landmark and cultural icon located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated on Mount Lee, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign overlooks Hollywood, Los Angeles.
The sign was originally created in 1923 as an advertisement for a local real estate development, but due to increasing recognition, the sign was left up. The sign has been a frequent target of pranks and vandalism across the decades, but it has since undergone restoration, including the installation of a security system to deter vandalism. The sign is protected and promoted by The Hollywood Sign Trust, a nonprofit organization, while its site and the surrounding land are part of Griffith Park.
Viewed from lower ground, the contours of the hills give the sign a wavy appearance. When viewed from the same height, the word appears nearly straight.
The sign makes frequent appearances in popular culture, particularly in establishing shots for films and television programs set in or around Hollywood. Signs of similar style, but spelling different words, are frequently seen as parodies.
Hollywood is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. This densely populated neighborhood is notable as the home of the U.S. film industry, including several of its historic studios, and its name has come to be a shorthand reference for the industry and the people associated with it.
Hollywood was a small community in 1870 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. It was consolidated with the city of Los Angeles in 1910, and soon thereafter a prominent film industry emerged, eventually becoming the most recognizable film industry in the world.
The Hollywood Hills are a part of the Santa Monica Mountains and also a hillside neighborhood of the same name in the central region of the city of Los Angeles, California.
A total of 21,588 people lived in the neighborhood's 7.05 square miles, according to the 2000 U.S. census. The median household income in 2008 dollars was $69,277, considered high for the city but about average for the county. The percentage of households earning $125,000 or more was high, compared to the county at large. The average household size of 1.8 people was relatively low. Renters occupied 56.5% of the housing units, and homeowners the rest.

Hiking to the Hollywood Sign and the Wisdom Tree in Los Angeles
Hollywood Sign Hike to Burbank Peak and the Wisdom Tree
This hike takes you up behind the iconic Hollywood sign on a 3.5 mile road trip trail that takes you up about 800 feet of elevation. It is a steep trail, so know that going in. Be sure to read signs when parking as well so that you do not get a ticket. It is a really fun Southern California hike with great views though and one of my favorite in the LA area.

The Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles California
A visit to a place close to the worlds most famous city sign, the Hollywood Sign.
The Hollywood Sign is placed on top of a hill in Hollywood, Los Angeles, close to Griffith park and observatory. It originally said Hollywoodland and was the name of a housing development in this area. In 1949 the land was dropped and it became the now famous Hollywood sign. However in late 70's the sign was in a really bad state and was saved by private donors, one being the artist Alice Cooper. The sign is made out of painted metal. You are not allowed to visit them (which is trespassing) but you could get close.

Hollywood Sign Hike: Taking the Brush Canyon Trail to Bronson Caves & the Hollywood Sign
A hike to the Hollywood Sign is a must-do for many tourists visiting Los Angeles. I have hiked it many different ways, but the best way to hike it for views of the sign on the way up is the Brush Canyon Trail. This hike takes you past the Bronson Caves (which is where the batcave was filmed for the TV Batman show) and up to Mullholand Trail. The Mullholland Trail takes you to two great viewpoints for the sign before eventually connecting with the paved road you can walk to get to the back of the sign itself. Hopefully this video encouraged you to hike to the sign, just don't do it in the heat of the summer.

The Hollywood Sign (formerly the Hollywoodland Sign) is an American landmark and cultural icon overlooking #Hollywood, Los Angeles, #California. It is situated on Mount Lee, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The sign was erected in 1923 and originally read HOLLYWOODLAND. Its purpose was to advertise the name of new segregated housing development in the hills above the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. H.J. Whitley had already used a sign to advertise his development Whitley Heights, which was between Highland Avenue and Vine Street. He suggested to his friend Harry Chandler, the owner of the Los Angeles Times newspaper, that the land syndicate in which he was involved make a similar sign to advertise their land. Real estate developers Woodruff and Shoults called their development Hollywoodland and advertised it as a superb environment without excessive cost on the Hollywood side of the hills.
They contracted the Crescent Sign Company to erect thirteen south-facing letters on the hillside. The sign company owner, Thomas Fisk Goff (1890–1984), designed the sign. Each letter was 30 feet wide and 50 feet high, and the whole sign was studded with around 4,000 light bulbs. The sign flashed in segments: HOLLY, WOOD, and LAND lit up individually, and then the whole. Below the Hollywoodland sign was a searchlight to attract more attention. The poles that supported the sign were hauled to the site by mules. Cost of the project was $21,000, equivalent to $310,000 in 2018.
The sign was officially dedicated in 1923. It was intended only to last a year and a half, but after the rise of American cinema in Los Angeles during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the sign became an internationally recognized symbol and was left there.
Home to the world’s 3rd largest economic area, after Tokyo and New York ($866 Billion in 2015), Los Angeles is the second-most populous city in the United States after New York City. With 4 Million residents and almost 19 Million in the surrounding area, Los Angeles is the largest and most populous city in the state of California and the cultural, financial, and commercial centre of Southern California.
Los Angeles is the centre of the L.A. metropolitan area, with 13.1 million residents the second largest in the United States after New York City. It is part of Los Angeles-Long Beach combined statistical area, also the second most populous in the nation with a 2015 estimated population of 18.7 million.

Hollywood Sign Location Mount Lee Los Angeles California CA USA
The Hollywood Sign - - is located on the southern side of Mount Lee in Griffith Park, north of the Mulholland Highway, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. It overlooks the Hollywood district of Los Angeles LA -- the center of the US movie industry. The sign started life in 1923 as an advertisement, but became a cultural American icon and it was left up. The sign has impressive dimensions - 45-foot-tall (14 m) and 350-foot-long (110 m) white letters. Over the years the famous sign has suffered from damage, both accidental and intended. For example, during the early 1940s, Albert Kothe (the sign's official caretaker) caused an accident with his car that destroyed the letter H. In 1949 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce initiated a repair contract with the City of Los Angeles Parks Department to repair and rebuild the sign. A later campaign in 1978 by the Chamber led to support from 9 donors who gave $27,777 each to repair the 9 letter sign -- The letter and attached donors were: H -- Terrence Donnelly -- publisher of the Hollywood Independent Newspaper; O -- Giovanni Mazza -- Italian movie producer; L -- Les Kelley -- originator of the Kelley Blue Book; L -- Gene Autry -- singer, actor and businessman; Y -- Hugh Hefner -- founder of Playboy magazine; W -- Andy Williams -- singer; O -- Warner Bros. Records; O -- Alice Cooper -- singer, who donated in memory of comedian Groucho Marx; D -- Thomas Pooley — donated in the name of Mathew Williams. This video clip zooms out from the sign and a tree appears on the right hand side of the frame.

This video is the second one of our Honeymoon Videos Series! We've got such an incredible experience in the United States on the West Coast!
It looks like this was OUR YEAR and we have managed to go to America for one month! For both of us, it was the first time in the US and maybe that's why we were so excited to be there!
We've been flying a lot during our month of the honeymoon but it worthed all the effort!
Out flights were between:
London, UK and Los Angeles - California,
Los Angeles - Maui, Hawaii
Maui, Hawaii - Oahu, Hawaii,
Oahu, Hawaii - Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles, California - London, UK
Also, we've been driving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
It was the trip of our dreams and we are so happy to share with you some vlogs from there! I will post more videos soon but for now, you have our first days in the US!
_________
We wanted to spend the second part of our adventure on the Westside of Los Angeles, closer to the ocean.
Firstly, we wanted to rent a car for our trip.
1. The most interesting thing was that I have finally managed to skate, exactly on Venice Beach! That was so surreal, really wanna do this again in the next future!
2. We've been visiting the Beverly Hills Hotel, which is the most iconic spot in the Beverly Hills area. The Beverly Hills Hotel, also called The Beverly Hills Hotel is located on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California. One of the world's best-known hotels, it is closely associated with Hollywood film stars and celebrities. The design of the hotel really made me wanna have a pink and green room in our house! It was such an inspiring source!
3. Malibu was so amazing! All those scenic views were a real blessing! Malibu is a beach city in western Los Angeles County, California, situated in the west of Downtown Los Angeles. Known for its Mediterranean climate, the strip of the Malibu coast incorporated in 1991 into the City of Malibu. The area is known for being the home of Hollywood movie stars, people in the entertainment industry, and other affluent residents. Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway, which traverses the city, with some residents living up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons.
We've been admiring all the Malibu's beauties, starting from landscapes and ending with the coolest cars we've ever seen! Just like in the movies!
4. The last but not least, one of the most beautiful locations of this vlog was the Griffith Park and Hollywood Sign! I was absolutely obsessed with the Hollywood Hills area and I think I would be able to hike on those hills every day for a view like that one! Watch the vlog and you will understand what I'm talking about!
Griffith Park is a large municipal park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains, in the Los Feliz neighbourhood of Los Angeles, California. Also, Griffith Park is the place where the movie La La Land was made! Such a pleasure to be able to watch that view in real life!
This observatory I think is the best angle to spot the American landmark and the cultural icon - the Hollywood sign! More about the Hollywood world is coming next, in my vlog about the movie Studios!
Don’t forget to subscribe if you wanna discover California together with us! Next part is Hollywood And Universal Studios! And it’s coming up next here!
