Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Lincoln Southwest High School to Holmes Lake Park . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
A beautiful day in December (very late fall)... today's trip takes us primarily along Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.'s very south edge, then towards the end we journey into Lincoln's southeastern suburbs.
Along the south edge of Lincoln, along Yankee Hill Road, we traverse in and out of the city itself. Not much development here yet being on the very edge of Lincoln. Then into Lincoln, on South 70th Street, we begin to go into more established suburban development... finally ending at Holmes Lake Park.
One side note about Holmes Lake Park - as I was driving by Holmes North Shore Rd., There is a newer sign... not sure when it was put in (maybe when the lake was renovated), but the sign says Holmes Lake Recreation Area. Huh??? Holmes Lake Park is now Holmes Lake Recreation area :p ? Probably not, but it make for an interesting contrast!
Anyways, please enjoy the ride!!!

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Holmes Lake to Antelope Valley . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン市 )
On this drive, we travel on a major northwest to southeast (and southeast to northwest) corridor from southeast Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A. We begin on the southeast end of this route - Normal Boulevard (a short portion shown in a previous video) and head west-northwest towards Downtown. Normal Blvd. eventually becomes Capital Parkway halfway on our route. Towards the end of out journey, Capital Pkwy. turn into the one way L Street just past Lincoln High School. At the newly finished Antelope Valley Project, we reverse course onto K Street and head back to where Capital Pkwy. begins (northwest end). This route pretty much follows Antelope Creek the whole way.
Most of the time I agree with city planners, but back in the day - whoever was planning, decided to end Normal Blvd. at S. 70th Street... a major disadvantage for people living in southeast Lincoln because the city eventually grew past 70th towards 84th and 98th Streets. Ending it here has put a strain on other arterial streets to the east.
Please enjoy!
Timeline:
00:16 - Southbound on S. 70th Street.
00:23 - Westbound on Normal Boulevard with Holmes Lake and Park on the left.
1:20 - Now on top of Homes Lake Dam.
2:12 - Gere Branch Public Library can be seen on the left.
3:19 - The upcoming intersection of S. 48th Street and Normal Boulevard is where the town of Normal used to be before Lincoln took it over many, many years ago.
4:54 - Jim Ager Golf Course is on the left.
5:49 - Normal Boulevard ends, Capital Parkway begins roughly here. Antelope Park is on the left.
6:00 - Neighbors Park can be seen on the right and the Lincoln Children's Zoo on the left.
6:24 - The Nebraska State Capitol can be seen on the left.
6:43 - The Sunken Gardens (Botanical Gardens) is on the left along with the Rose Gardens (not seen).

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Air Park/Arnold Heights . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we travel through northwest Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A... through what was once part of the once proud Lincoln Air Force Base - Air Park and Arnold Heights.
The Air Park side of the base, beginning on the right at about 3:51, was where all of the Air force offices and HQ's were located... sadly, most of the buildings that were part of the base were torn down at the base's decommissioning with only a few remaining (including a couple of hangers). From what I understand, when the base closed, the National Guard could have had everything in Air Park but chose the east side of the airport instead (and now they are running out of room :p ).
Air Park is now owned by the Lincoln Airport Authority with the hope, for many years, of it being an industrial park... things have been looking up in recent years with some new manufacturing businesses moving in because of an extension(s) to BNSF's spur.
Arnold Heights, on the left at about 3:24, was the base's housing for officers, etc... now wither privately owned or part of the Lincoln Housing Authority. The base's original Arnold Elementary School and a small branch library were nestled in this neighborhood until recently when the new school and library were built at what was once known at the base as Huskerville... on the left at about 5:00. The original school (and library) were razed due to an infestation of brown recluse spiders that exterminators and fumigators were unable to get rid of (the library was not effected by the spiders).
We've seen new housing construction sprouting up in this area of Lincoln as well - Oak Hills mainly north of West Holdrege Street and south of Arnold Heights/Air Park. One day there will also be a giant industrial park between oak Hills and Interstate 80... once there is the funding for infrastructure.
The only two things that this part of town has going against it is the current condition of NW 48th St... very poor shape. Luckily part of NW 48th will be rebuilt as part of the new diverging diamond interchange with I-80 (the state's first)... then the plan is to eventually move NW 48th a block east from the Arnold Heights neighborhood with a total rebuild north of the upcoming rebuild. We'll see when it happens...
The other thing that this part of town has against it is access. Pretty much the only ways to get to NW 48th is via W. O Street (U.S. Hwy. 6), I-80 or U.S. Hwy. 34 (along with a couple other minor streets), sometimes creating a half an hour trip to some parts of the city. Can't go through the Lincoln Airport, gott'a go around it ;) . It's too bad that the city can't build a new connector street with tunnels going under the airport (runways and taxiways - like we see in some major cities) for quicker access to this part of town. Ah well...
Two other notes, ol' Centerville is at 6:56... and as you can see, most of the leaves have fallen by now - that was fast!
Anyways, hope you enjoy this ride and the little back-in-time tour through the old Lincoln Air Force Base!

00:46 - Interstate 80 interchange.
00:49 - Lincoln city limits (leaving Lincoln). Continuing on State Spur S55K North (northbound NW 48th St.)
1:31 - State Spur S55K ends here. Continuing northbound on the county portion of NW 48th St.

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - NE 2: U.S. 77 to Bennet Interchanges . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Ah, what can be said about today's road trip??? It's been a long time coming. A major trucking artery between Interstate 80 and Kansas City (I-29), Nebraska Highway 2 has been in long need of a bypass around south Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A... a.k.a. South Beltway - which has been over 10 years in the making and will take over another 10.
Ah well, what am I saying, the truck traffic isn't all that bad today anyways ;p . Any-ways, Hwy. 2 is what it is. Rush hour is a real drag! There really isn't another road in Lincoln that goes from Downtown to SE Lincoln, besides Capital Parkway/Normal Boulevard, but that road stops at S. 70th St. The city is planning a six-lane expansion of some sections of Hwy. 2 here in Lincoln at some point, but that will be in a few years over a period of years and how much is contingent on the South Beltway being built. Concrete is so expensive now-a-days :p !
...but besides all of that stuff, I hit today on a solid white late fall day with snow on the ground ^_^ (what a difference a weekend makes :p ). Luckily the roads aren't too slushy yet because of the super cold temperatures we're having. Nebraska, gott'a love the weather! Like they say here, You don't like the weather? Wait ten minutes. ^_~
One note to make... in the past, we've been on a section or two of Hwy. 2 in other videos, but in the other direction. It's hard to miss 2 when going into south Lincoln ^_~ .
So, please enjoy the ride and the white ^^ !
The eastern half of NE Hwy. 2 in Nebraska is now complete video-wise except for a very small segment from U.S. Hwy. 75 into Iowa at Nebraska City. Woo-hoo!

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Rosemont to Mahoney Park . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we journey around Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.'s northeastern side, going between and through former small towns that now make up Lincoln (northeast Lincoln is pretty much all a collection of former small towns).
We begin on what would be almost the northern edge of the former small town of Bethany. Here we travel on Leighton Avenue, a minor collector. This street is a nice, fast route from the N. 33rd and Cornhusker Highway (U.S. Hwy. 6) area - east (and vice-versa). With speed limits recently made higher and minimal traffic, one can bypass many bottlenecks pretty fast! The only hiccup is traveling east past N. 70th Street. Developers must have thought that the city would end somewhere around Kahoa Elementray School, so Leighton T's for half a block until it begins again. Another Capital Parkway moment...
We soon turn north into what is a real bottleneck on N. 48th Street - the former small town of University Place. There's been a few master plans on what to do with this narrow, busy roadway through the central business district of Uni Place for years but not much has been done since they were drawn up. The latest is to crate a pedestrian corridor on St. Paul Avenue, widen 48th to accommodate turn lanes where possible and install new traffic signals. The only problem is money. The master plan before that was not well received - it was to reroute 48th to the east and west of Uni Place.
Further north, we turn onto Fremont Street and eventually straddle the former small town of Havelock. This is another short cut from the N. 48th & Superior to N. 56th & Vine Streets areas. Finally, all the way east on Fremont is Lincoln's Mahoney Park which we do a loop through. Mahoney Park (and Golf Course) is a nice park with ball fields, a playground and walking trails. Murdock Bicycle Trail (formerly the Rock Island Railroad) borders the northern edge of the park, so here is a convenient place to park and get onto the trail - bike into the countryside.~
One other thing of note about Mahoney Park... my memory is a little foggy since I was just a kid, but if I remember right, around the 1980's, a kid was run over and killed in the crosswalk at 10:32 during the evening hours. I don't think they ever found the driver but I could be wrong. It's been so long ago already! A sad situation but not a bad omen to the park.
Anyways, please enjoy the ride!
Timeline:
00:15 - Northbound on N. 70th Street.
00:37 - Westbound on Leighton Avenue.
1:44 - N. 63rd Street intersection. Lincoln Northeast High School is three block away on the right.
2:14 - Whitehall is directly on the right.
3:57 - Northbound on N. 48th Street. Entering the Uni Place Central Business District.
4:13 - Huntington Avenue intersection. The Lincoln Police Department's Northeast Team Station is half a block away on the right... hence the police car seen in the Walgreens parking lot to scare speeders in the 25mph zone.
4:49 - St. Paul Street intersection. The main entryway into Nebraska Wesleyan University is two blocks away on the right.
5:10 - Cleveland Avenue intersection. Huntington Elementary school is on the right past the intersection.
6:11 - Eastbound on Fremont Street.
7:34 - Anderson Branch Public Library is the red brick building that can be seen for a second on the far left.
7:54 - Touzalin Avenue intersection. The Touzalin Arboretum runs down the middle of Touzalin Ave. from Adams Street to Havelock Avenue. It is a pretty old, unique arboretum that features linear-planted trees. It was damaged pretty bad during the 1997 (200 year) snow storm.
9:30 - N. 70th Street intersection. Entering Mahoney Park just after the intersection.
10:22 - Now on Olson Lux Memorial Drive. The Mahoney park Golf course is almost directly behind us to the south.
11:05 - Parking for the playground is on the left.
12:01 - Park here on the right for getting on the Murdock Bicycle Trail. Ball diamonds are and have been on the left.
12:35 - More parking for the playground on the left.

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - U.S. 77: Rosa Parks Way to the West I-80 I/c(s) . 2014 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
This is a short fill-in for a missed segment of roadway on U.S. Highway 77 in Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A... from the Rosa Parks Way to the West Interstate 80 interchanges. Much of this video goes over BNSF Railway's Hobson Yard viaduct.
Interestingly, once we get past the West O Street (U.S. Hwy. 6) interchange here on U.S. 77, the lane separation markings disappear down the middle of the roadway to I-80. How can the state miss this :o ??? Also, at I-80, since U.S. 77 goes to the right and follows the I-80 East onramp, the exit sign should point to the left. Hmmm :p .....
Anyways, enjoy :) !
One thing that has always intrigued me is the idea of Interstate 31 beginning in Kansas - with the possibility of I-31 going through Beatrice, Lincoln, Wahoo, Fremont and up to Sioux City (at least that's one of the options):
I could only dream of the day that a new Interstate would grace Nebraska... especially in this part of the state :D !

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Lakeside to North Central Lincoln . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
On today's trip, we go from Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.'s Country Club area, to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln's City Campus and finally to the beautiful Cornhusker Highway (U.S. Highway 6) corridor.
We start really close to Irving Middle School on the first leg which is right beside Irvingdale Park (which may be haunted). Heading north, do do pass by Stransky Park and the (for sure) haunted Rudge Memorial Park (formerly called the Lake Street Park). An older part of Lincoln this is and along with it some of Lincoln's past ;D .
Continuing to head north, we see (or maybe not see with the trees) the Bryan Medical Center West Campus tower, formerly named the BryanLGH Medical Center West and before that Lincoln General Hospital (as seen in the 1983 movie - at the end - Terms of Endearment... filmed here in Lincoln) on the left.
Past of South Street, this newly rehabilitated stretch of roadway - a one way, was once three lanes but now is two. Here we find a former town that Lincoln swallowed up, currently called the 17th Street Shops. If you ever have the chance, stop by Bohdi Imports - seen on the left at 2:13... it's a really cool, hippy place to shop!
Through some inner-city, we finally reach the east edge of Downtown Lincoln. Soon after is the University of Nebraska at Lincoln's City Campus. While traveling through campus, it appears that some classes were or had already gotten out - cool! After a T in the road and some strange maneuvering around some strange street corners (including one that we've traveled on before) it looks as if we're done with UNL...
...but we're not! As we turn onto Salt Creek Roadway, UNL's future Innovation Park Campus is on our left (formerly State Fair Park) along with the Bob Devaney Sports Center - the new home of Nebraska's Volleyball program. Right now Innovation Park is either dirt or shells of buildings being built into buildings newer & better, but someday in the future this will be a technology park of it's own... including a future data center maybe, built by the University (would sure love to see Apple locate here maybe ;p .....).
Under the N. 27th Street overpass, we finally wind our way to Cornhusker Highway... such a beautiful area! Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the ride ^^ !

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - South Kensington to Bec Tec Addn. . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we again go on a for-the-most-part uneventful ride in northeast Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A. (northeast Lincoln is uneventful, that is ;p )... from South Kensington where we have started/ended quite a few times to an industrial tract called the Bec Tec Addition.
At least half of our ride is mainly residential. At the beginning, around the N. 33rd Street/Adams Street/Cornhusker Highway (U.S. Highway 6) mega-complex (where the RTSD is holding a safety project hostage... yikes!), the area is blighted industrial and commercial but we very soon go into residential. We quickly find ourselves on the north side of Uni Place's Central Business District - a former small town!
In and out of neighborhoods, we soon run into the former small town of Havelock (and bordering the north side of the former small town of Bethany). Touzalin Avenue, which we go up and down both sides of (and stopping at every light in the process), has the city's Touzalin Arboretum running down the center of the street's quite wide center. What's interesting about this arboretum is that the trees are planted in a grid as they did in the old days (it is old!)! The 1997 200-year snow storm wiped out a number of these great, old trees - so sad :( .....
(speaking of stopping at every light, the city should reconsider putting in a roundabout at Touzalin Ave. and Fremont Street - even though there's a new traffic light at the intersection, it seems redundant with the current traffic flow...)
Back onto Adams Street, we go by Lincoln Northeast High School, home of the Rockets! Why the Rocket mascot you ask? They say that when the school was built (1941), with all the cornfields around, you could hear the Rock Island Rocket screaming down the tracks up north in Havelock. Cool, huh :) ?
Past the Mahoney Golf Course and the former North 40 Golf Course (*sniff* - putt-putting was so fun :*( !), we end up on a mile stretch of N. 84th Street that was previously recorded. Alas, don't worry, north of the Lancaster Event Center is new footage! Not much to see, though... cornfields. Still in Lincoln for the most part, we turn around (once again) at Cornhusker Highway to head back south :p . The recoded time was close to rush hour, but why was the traffic so heavy today :o ???
Anyways, please enjoy!
