Heads of the Christian Orthodox church from around the world gathered in Istanbul on Christmas day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Last year, the Patriarchs met in Bulgaria for their Christmas service.
In 1995 they met Patmos, a Greek Island in Aegean sea.
Today's service, led by the Patriarch of Constantinople, drew heads of the Orthodox Church in Alexandria, Syria, Jerusalem , Patriarch of Serbia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Poland, Greece, Albania, Czech Republic, Finland, Estonia were present to celebrate the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ.
The service, which lasted more than two hours, saw a mingling of the ancient and the modern.
The patriarchs, wearing gold-encrusted mitras on their heads and vestments of heavy brocade and carrying golden scepters, processed into the incense-filled church as throngs of the faithful crowded the aisles with video cameras.
This is the first time all the clergy have celebrated Christmas together.

Surprise visit by the Orthodox Patriarch of Sofia to the local parish
Local parish of st. Nicholas the Miracleworker, had a surprise visit by His Holiness Orthodox Metropolitan of Sofia, Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte. The Patriarch has stayed for the vespers and has venerated the Icon of St. Nicholas the Miracleworker.

Historic landmark reopens in Istanbul after seven years of resoration
The 120-year-old church Iron Church was built to serve the city's Bulgarian community. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov are attending the ceremony.

Bulgarian Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter
(16 Apr 2017) Orthodox Christians in Bulgaria gathered at churches and monasteries on Saturday night to celebrate the Easter holiday.
At the golden-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the capital, Sofia, the head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Neophyte led the festive midnight Mass, which concluded with a candle-lit procession.
The congregation lit their candles from the Holy Fire flown in from Jerusalem earlier that day.

I shot this video on 13.05.2012 in Ruse, Bulgaria. Dragan and Nikolina Valcheff were married in this church on Nov 28, 1904. She was baptized here in 1887, and Aunt Dorothy (Todorina, birthname) was baptized in 1905.
