Wonder Lake Campground and McKinley Bar Trail - Alaskan Summer 17
After a long bus ride into Denali National Park, Wonder Lake is a beautiful place to camp. On two occasions, I was able to stay over night at Wonder Lake Campground. Visitors can walk down to the lake and see swans playing on the water. There is also a nearby trail, the McKinley Bar Trail, which leads to the McKinley River. Wild blueberries grow all over the area-- they're great for snacking! Weather allowing, the campground also provides a stunning view of Denali Mountain. Overall, Wonder Lake is just a Wonderful place!

Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve is a popular site located in a rolling wooded area near Mahomet, Illinois. This beautiful preserve occupies almost 900 acres along the corridor of the Sangamon River. Highlighting Lake of the Woods are several well-known attractions: the Early American Museum, Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden, and Lake of the Woods Golf Course.

Busse Woods Ned Brown Forest Preserve Photography Excursion
Here is a Busse Woods Ned Brown Forest Preserve Excursion video from a trip to Rolling Meadows Illinois. I'm using the Pentax K-01 and 24mm f2 lens again. This park/preserve is large and contains a good deal of water features to enjoy. While my videos look devoid of people there was a considerable number roaming around the park and using the designated event plots (they charge a fee for people over a certain number). I went here for the Soycon event, but had a large amount of time before the event due to the necessity of taking some family to the nearby airport very early in the morning.

Overwintering Sandhill Crane?--Homer, Alaska
Lesser Sandhill Cranes generally migrate from Homer, Alaska around September 12. This crane showed up in the North Fork area around October 16 and has been there since that time. The observers have never seen it fly. Food and spring water is available. Birders are following this crane story with interest to see if it makes the winter. As of December 3, after a major winter storm, the lone sandhill crane was reported doing well.

The modern way of burying a body, the casket in the ground method most of us are used to is horrible for the environment. It uses an incredible amount of resources, emits toxic pollutants into the air, and pumps the ground full of formaldehyde, which is known to cause cancer. It's also prohibitively expensive. The average cost of a modern funeral costs between $10,000 to $12,000.
There are a number of greener options available though. Cremation uses less resources and requires less space than a traditional burial, but isn't perfect. There are more experimental methods on the horizon such as promession and alkaline hydrolysis.
No matter which method we choose, it's clear that we need to reform how we bury the dead.
