The Hong Kong Jockey Club is one of the oldest institutions in Hong Kong. Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a horse racing operator and Hong Kong's largest community benefactor, operating as a not-for-profit organisation. In 1959 it was granted a Royal Charter and renamed The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. The name of the institution was reverted to its original name in 1996 due to the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong in 1997. Membership of the club is by nomination and election only.

Starting out as a fishing village, salt production site and trading ground, Hong Kong later evolved into an international financial centre and eventually to a prime tourist destination.

ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG WALKING TOUR - HAPPY VALLEY (FULL TOUR) | 跑馬地
#ultrahd4k #hksh #hkjc #hongkong #discoverhongkong
Welcome to our Hong Kong Walking Tour in Happy Valley. We did a full tour of Happy Valley, which is a favourite amongst expats. Our video is filmed in Ultra HD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here.
The walking tour includes a look at the main hospital in the area, Hong Kong Sanatorium; the tram terminus, Hong Kong Jockey Club where the Hong Kong Racecourse is, the playground, and the residential areas.
'Happy Valley (Chinese: 跑馬地) is an upper-income residential area in Hong Kong, located on Hong Kong Island. Administratively, it is part of Wan Chai District.
The area is sometimes known as Wong Nai Chung Kuk (黃泥涌谷) or Wong Nai Chung Valley because of the Wong Nai Chung (黃泥涌, lit. yellow mud stream) that leads into the area.
The area is home to the Happy Valley Racecourse, Hong Kong Racing Museum, Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital, home to the grounds of the Valley RFC rugby club, the Hong Kong FC and a number of cemeteries including the Hong Kong Cemetery.
Happy Valley is made up of upper income residential areas, and its residents include of a mix of Hong Kong natives and foreigners. Two of the tallest residential buildings in Hong Kong, Highcliff and The Summit are located in Happy Valley facing Mount Nicholson.
Happy Valley is the location of six cemeteries. From south to north, they are the Jewish Cemetery, the Hindu Cemetery, the Parsee Cemetery, Hong Kong Cemetery, St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, and the Muslim Cemetery.
The Hong Kong Racing Museum and the Happy Valley Racecourse, one of the two race tracks belonging to the Hong Kong Jockey Club headquarters, is in Happy Valley. Whenever a race runs, surrounding traffic patterns have to be changed: Cars will have to enter Happy Valley and the racecourse via Wong Nai Chung Road in a clockwise fashion, and the road may be heavily congested. The stadium lights in the racecourse illuminate nearby buildings even when the buildings themselves are unlit.
Happy Valley is also the home of Hong Kong First Division's Happy Valley Athletic Association.
Hong Kong Tramways extended their network into Happy Valley in 1922,[1] and the community has been served by the trams ever since. The extension has one terminus.
Residents can access the Causeway Bay MTR station via minibuses or trams.
Aberdeen Tunnel, Wong Nai Chung Road and Canal Road Flyover also serve Happy Valley.
Happy Valley has three bus terminals, two at the top of the hill and one at the bottom. The terminus furthest up the hill serves route 19 that goes to Siu Sai Wan. The upper terminus (also on the hill) serves one of Hong Kong's oldest bus routes (No. 1) which spans from Green Lane of Happy Valley to Central; it now terminates at Kennedy Town. The lower bus terminus serves route 8X, going to Siu Sai Wan, route 117, going to Sham Shui Po, and route 10S, going to Kennedy Town.'

Protest over Hong Kong museum plans
(10 Jan 2017) Hong Kong officials on Tuesday defended a controversial plan to build a branch of the Beijing Palace Museum that has become that latest flashpoint for tensions between Beijing and the semiautonomous Chinese ruled city.
The plan is overseen by Hong Kong Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, the city's second highest ranking official who is weighing up whether to run for the city's top job.
Activists accuse her of acting against the public interest to advance her career through the project, which was revealed in a surprise announcement just before Christmas.
They say arrangements were carried out in secret with no public consultation, raising fears that the former British colony's autonomy is being undermined.
Dozens of protesters who were prevented from entering the venue instead carried photos and slogans denouncing the Tiananmen Square massacre at a busy underground station where advertisements for the museum are on display.
Protest organizer Gary Fan said Carrie Lam's museum pitch was aimed at pleasing Beijing as she may run for the next Chief Executive election.
The museum that is estimated to cost 449 million US dollars is set to be built in the Hong Kong art district of West Kowloon.
It is designed to be a replica of Beijing's celebrated Forbidden City which was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1420-1912).
Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying has described its construction as the best and biggest gift to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

Museum in Hong Kong showcases dark Tiananmen memories
It was June 4, 1989 when Chinese tanks and soldiers crushed student-led pro-democracy demonstrations in Beijing. Hundreds were killed and by some estimates more than 1,000. As the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown approaches, a museum has reopened its doors in Hong Kong, aiming to remind people of the bloody incident.

Hong Kong Tsim Sha Tsui Info:
Tsim Sha Tsui (Chinese: 尖沙咀), often abbreviated as TST, is an urban area in southern Kowloon, Hong Kong. The area is administratively part of the Yau Tsim Mong District. Tsim Sha Tsui East is a piece of land reclaimed from the Hung Hom Bay now east of Tsim Sha Tsui. The area is bounded north by Austin Road and in the east by Hong Chong Road and Cheong Wan Road.
Geographically, Tsim Sha Tsui is a cape on the tip of the Kowloon Peninsula pointing towards Victoria Harbour, opposite Central. Several villages had been established in this location before Kowloon was ceded to the British Empire in 1860. Tsim Sha Tsui in Chinese means sharp sandspit. It was also known as Heung Po Tau (香埗頭), i.e. a port for exporting incense tree.
Tsim Sha Tsui is a major tourist hub in Hong Kong, with many high-end shops and restaurants that cater to tourists. Many of Hong Kong's museums are located in the area.
