【4K】Walk to Koedo-Kawagoe, Saitama
I walked around Koedo Kawagoe. Kawagoe is a town with a long history. Many traditional shops at street. You can find nostalgic candy shops found in Kashiya Yokocho (Candy Shop Alley), which was founded in the early Meiji Period. ※There are some disturbances in the image.
本川越駅から小江戸川越を気ままに散歩しました。小江戸と呼ばれるエリアは、古い町並みが良い雰囲気を出しています。菓子屋横丁には懐かしの駄菓子屋が並んでいます。※一部、映像の乱れがあります。

The Kawagoe Festival's strongest feature is the festival float event which reproduces the ’Edo Tenka Matsuri’ festival. Spectacular festival floats carrying exquisitely crafted dolls are pulled around the center of Koedo-Kawagoe’s landmark Kurazukuri (traditional architecture) Zone. Spectators will be overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the many festival floats as they pass by each other when meeting at an intersection.

Visiting Hon Kawagoe | AN ADVENTURE THROUGH TIME
Hon Kawagoe is an old town from the Edo period, when the samurai were at the height of their reign. We took a 30 minute ride on the Seibu Yellow Line and after grabbing some wifi at a Starbucks we set off on our adventure.
We grabbed the Koedo Famous Locations Loop bus to Nakain, the middle of three temples that together make up the Three Temple Complex in Hon Kawagoe. Famous for being the origin of Kawagoe and Sayama Tea, it was originally the main temple until Tenkai Soujou came to Kitain to live. Of the three temples, Nakain has the best photo opportunities with cheery blossoms blooming even in winter. Unlike their spring counterparts the winter cherries are not as lush but a perfect compliment to winter nonetheless.
We continued our adventure on foot, stopping at various shrines and local temples along the way. We made it to a small town flea market, where I stopped by a fox shrine, learning that people will leave good booze at the shrine for good luck - but also because the fox spirit likes to get boozie.
We wanted to make it to Toki no-Kane or the Tower of Time by 15:00 to take part in the ringing of the bell ceremony - but still having some time we went to Honmaru Goten (本丸御殿), meaning the palace in the inner-most circle of defense, or what's left of it. Honmaru Goten is the only surviving building of the former Kawagoe Castle and while it's not big, the inner garden is beautiful - plus it's free to get in!
There is a museum right across the street so we visited. I took some video of it, even though it was not allowed...but then I lost the footage so here we are - regardless, it's an interesting twist of fate.
As the time for the ringing of the bell ceremony neared we made our way to the Kawagoe Warehouse District or Kurazukuri Street. The district is known for its' Edo period architecture and the many traditional style shops. There are a few gems along the side streets as well, but you'll wanna watch the video to find out what they are C:.

Japan Vlog #14: 'Koedo' (old Tokyo) Kawagoe town - old warehouse
We walked around a town in Kawagoe city in Saitama prefecture. The street has a view of old warehouse like as in the Edo period (1800s Tokyo). It was fun to see the old town with the ancient atmosphere. We then had Japanese green tea mochi (rice cake) desert and green tea soft ice cream, it was yummy!
It's worth a visit Kawagoe, if you have longer holiday in Tokyo. It's about 1 hour away from metro Tokyo. Walkable from JR Kawagoe station.

Eating Purple Japanese Noodles|Day 99 - Saitama
Kawagoe is a city located about 15 km west of Omiya in Saitama city. In Edo Period (from the 17th to late 19th centuries), here was the central city of Kawagoe Domain, then here had prospered as a castle town. Fortunately, this city escaped the damage of the World War II, so it still has many old streets and buildings.
Then, this city is often called Koedo (Little Edo). In March 2007, the Emperor and Empress guided the King and Princess of Sweden around this city. The main area is located in a northerly direction of Kawagoe station (JR, Tobu Lines) and Hon-Kawagoe station (Seibu Line). And it is nearly within about 1 km circuit. You can make a tour of old town, not only on foot but also by route bus or rickshaw for sightseeing.

The Clock in Kawagoe
There is a clock above the shopping mall directly outside of Kawagoe Station. Most of the time it's rather unremarkable, but if you happen to pass by on the hour, the clock turns around and little puppets dance to music and play instruments.

Oedo Antique Market Tokyo International Forum
Oeda is the largest outdoor antique market in Japan held on the First and Third Sunday of every month.
As luck would have it, I arrived in Tokyo the day before one was due to be held.
With a not too distant underground station from where I could connect to a direct line to the area of the market, it seemed like that would give me a relaxed start to my stay in Tokyo.
All I can say is that as usual Google maps gave its usual help. Go south west it said, as I emerged from the station. I should add that this was after it had presumably re-centred as the instructions had been quite clear. Exit from exit number 5. Exit number 5 was closed. No explanation – well not one that was in a language I understood. No re-routing instructions.
South west seemed explicit enough, but as always … how was I supposed to know which way was south-west? I picked a direction and set off. After a short while, Google said again, go south west. (I have a very handy pocket in my coat which holds the phone so that I have no difficulty in hearing the voice.) I walked on. A little later I again heard. go south west. This was repeated at intervals as I walked along. I arrived at a river and thought I would just check to see exactly where I was. That is when I discovered that I was now twice as far from my destination as I had been at the beginning. Have I somehow picked the politest Google map version ever? Isn’t it actually supposed to say, “you are going in the WRONG direction”? “Turn around, damn it!” Where is that awful woman who used to tell you to make a U-turn in her most supercilious and scornful voice? How did I get a wimp.
So it was that I followed what must surely be a familiar pattern to you by now. Having retraced my steps, walked unnecessary miles, which took over an hour, I finally – by asking someone in the street – arrived at my destination. It was five minutes from the train station.
But what the heck. Tokyo is vast and now I have seen a little more of it. And the Antique Fair did not disappoint, so all’s well that ends well. And yet again I had burned enough calories to allow myself the now compulsory Lawons’ éclair packet.
Without the walk, please join me for all the fun of the fair.
