More on Hudson Yards Development (from Wikipedia):
Hudson Yards is a real estate development in the Chelsea and Hudson Yards neighborhoods of Manhattan, New York City. It is the largest private real estate development in the United States by square footage. Upon completion, 13 of the 16 planned structures on the West Side of Midtown South would sit on a platform built over the West Side Yard, a storage yard for Long Island Rail Road trains. The first of its two phases comprises a public green space and eight structures that contain residences, a hotel, office buildings, a mall, and a cultural facility. It opened to the public on March 15, 2019. The second focuses on residential space, along with an office building and a school. Construction has not begun on the second phase.
The site of Hudson Yards was initially intended for other developments, most notably in the early 2000s as the site of the West Side Stadium, during the New York City bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The plans for Hudson Yards were developed after the failure of the West Side Stadium. Construction began in 2012 with the groundbreaking for 10 Hudson Yards, and the first phase opened on March 15, 2019. Both phases are projected to be complete by 2024. Agreements between various entities including the local government, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and the state of New York made the development possible.

Ellis Island Immigration Museum - New York City, New York
New Learn Pilates App!
Mahalo travel expert Asha K. shares a few tips to help travelers plan their next trip to the iconic and historic tourist destination that is the Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York City.
Ellis Island
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is located at 17 Battery Place,
New York City and has been open to the public since 1990. Part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument, Ellis Island's museum is located in the former immigration station complex and attracts vistors from around the globe annually.
The museum features films, archives, recordings and photos of the 12 million immigrants who entered the United States through the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbor. Nearly 100 million Americans today can trace their immigrant roots to Ellis Island.
All it takes is a $12 ferry ride for adults ($5 for kids) on the Ellis Island-Liberty Island ferry to get to the museum.
If you'd prefer just to sight-see without paying a dime, you can always take a free ride on the Staten Island ferry to view Ellis Island from the Hudson.
Wall of Honor
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A special feature of the Ellis Island museum, the Wall of Honor overlooks the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline and is the longest wall of names in the world. This unique display pays tribute to America's rich cultural heritage, celebrating American immigration from its earliest beginnings right up to the present day, and contains more than 700,000 names inscribed for posterity by family members and friends.c
Immigration History Center
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an exciting interactive area at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. You can access the passenger records of the ships that landed some 22 million immigrants, crew members, and other passengers at the Port of New York and Ellis Island from 1892 to 1924. To prepare for your search, gather as much information as you can, such as: the passenger's first and last names; approximate year of arrival; ethnicity (which may include race, nationality and religion); approximate age on arrival; ship of travel; port of departure; and whether the passenger traveled with other family members. Experienced volunteers can provide guidance so visitors can view manifests and ship images from their ancestor's journey.c
Tours
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The 45-minute audio tour, available in nine languages, invites visitors to relive the immigrant experience as if they were the new arrival and is ideal for individuals with limited time. Cost is $8 for adults and $7.25 for seniors and children under 12.cAdditional tour options describe exhibits in more detail via in-depth interviews with historians, architects and archaeologists. A special children's tour is narrated by Marty the Muskrat and is offered in five languages.c
History
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Before being designated as the site of the first Federal immigration station by President Benjamin Harrison in 1890, Ellis Island had a varied history. The local Indian tribes had called it Kioshk or Gull Island. Due to its rich and abundant oyster beds and plentiful and profitable shad runs, it was known as Oyster Island for many generations during the Dutch and English colonial periods. By the time Samuel Ellis became the island's private owner in the 1770's, the island had been called Kioshk, Oyster, Dyre, Bucking and Anderson's Island. In this way, Ellis Island developed from a sandy island that barely rose above the high tide mark, into a hanging site for pirates, a harbor fort, ammunition and ordinance depot named Fort Gibson, and finally into an immigration station. Prior to 1890, individual states regulated immigration into the United States. Castle Garden in the Battery (originally known as Castle Clinton) served as the New York State immigration station from 1855 to 1890 and approximately eight million immigrants, mostly from Northern and Western Europe, passed through its doors. These early immigrants came from nations such as England, Ireland, Germany and the Scandinavian countries, and constituted the first large wave of immigrants that settled and populated the U.S. Throughout the 1800's and intensifying in the latter half of the 19th century, ensuing political instability, restrictive...

Statue of female civil rights icons to be erected in NY's Central Park
New York's Central Park is getting real when it comes to women who made their mark on history. The city's Public Design Commission approved a Central Park monument on Monday that will feature - for the first time - real women from history, and pay tribute to civil rights pioneers Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Sojourner Truth. The monument to the three women, who were all New Yorkers, is to be designed by world renowned artist Meredith Bergmann, and dedicated next August in time for the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in the United States. New York's Public Design Commission approved a statue to women's rights pioneers Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony for Central Park on Monday. The design of the statue is show above The monument to the three women who were all New Yorkers was designed by world renowned artist Meredith Bergmann (pictured), and dedicated next August in time for the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in the United States 'My hope is that all people, but especially young people, will be inspired by this image of women of different races, different religious backgrounds and different economic status working together to change the world,' Bergmann (pictured) said after Monday's voteThe sculpture will break what some have dubbed the 'bronze ceiling' in the 166-year-old urban oasis. Final approval came from the Public Design Commission, an agency that reviews artworks on city-owned property.'This statue conveys the power of women working together to bring about revolutionary change in our society,' said Pam Elam, president of the Monumental Women's Statue Fund, a nonprofit of advocates, historians and community leaders including Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer. The design was chosen from 91 competing submissions, reports the Associated Press. About $1.5 million was privately raised to create and maintain the new monument and for an associated educational program.'My hope is that all people, but especially young people, will be inspired by this image of women of different races, different religious backgrounds and different economic status working together to change the world,' Bergmann said after the vote.Central Park already has almost two dozen statues honoring men who had an impact on history, including Beethoven, Christopher Columbus, and even Cuban poet and national hero Jose Marti, as well as a few lesser known names like Fitz-Greene Halleck. Halleck was probably 'a poet you've never heard of, for good reason,' wrote the Daily News in an editorial in support of the statue honoring Anthony, Cady Stanton and Truth, all New Yorkers.Until now, there hasn't been a single monument in the park honoring women who made their mark on history. There are statues of fictional, female characters, including Mother Goose and Alice in Wonderland. There's even Romeo's Juliet, which comes with a version of him planting a smooch on her. There's no man necessary to share the limelight w

7 Architecture Facts pt.35 | Liberty in NYC, SOM & Header
The Statue of Liberty is a copper sculpture in New York Harbor. It was a gift to the United States from France dedicated in 1886. The statue was meant to celebrate the hope in a future of liberty, democracy and freedom in the US and beyond; Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus, a school for modernism in Germany. The building he designed in Dessau was finished in 1926. Aesthetically it’s quintessential modernism—stripped down and bare—stucco, concrete, steel and glass; Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine and founded the Salk Institute in 1960. The complex was designed by Louis Kahn. The buildings are an aesthetic dichotomy of brutalist concrete form with soft wood infill panels; The Dulles international airport is an authoritative example of form conveying the idea of flight. In fact when it came to putting on an addition in the 90’s the original bay design was so elegant it was simply replicated directly onto the original building; The Empire State Building was designed by William F. Lamb and completed in 1931. The building is made of 200,000 cubic feet of limestone and granite. Builders used 10 million bricks and 60,000 tons of steel; The term header or lintel is used to describe a structural member over an opening like a window or door. This member transfers the weight of what’s above to either side of the opening and ultimately to the foundation below; The Burj Khalifa in Dubai was designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore Owings and Merrill. It utilizes a structural system of bundled tubes which buttress each other as it climbs. The building serves as hotel, residence and corporate suites.

Nude Trump Statues Are Found In Several Cities In America
It's Donald Trump like you've never seen him before.
Life-size naked statues of the Republican presidential nominee greeted passers-by in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and Cleveland on Thursday. They are the brainchild of an activist collective called INDECLINE, which has spoken out against Trump before.
In a statement, the collective said the hope is that Trump, the former host of The Apprentice reality TV series, is never installed in the most powerful political and military position in the world.
The statues were created by an artist in Cleveland. They are of a stern-faced Trump with his hands folded over a bulging belly. Some parts of male genitalia are visible while others seemingly are missing.
It is through these sculptures that we leave behind the physical and metaphorical embodiment of the ghastly soul of one of America's most infamous and reviled politicians, INDECLINE said in its statement.
Trump's campaign declined to comment on the statues.
A statue in New York's Union Square quickly drew the attention of people, many of whom posed for photographs with it, before it was removed by the city's parks department.
NYC Parks stands firmly against any unpermitted erection in city parks, no matter how small, parks spokesman Sam Biederman joked.
A video posted by DNAInfo showed onlookers booing and groaning as workers snapped the statue off its base, leaving the feet behind, and loaded it face-down into the back of a pickup truck. One woman yelled, Take his nasty feet, too!
Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio, when asked about the naked Trump statue, said, That is a frightening thought. When he's wearing clothes I don't like him.
INDECLINE said statues on the West Coast were still in place.
This wasn't the group's first anti-Trump endeavor. The collective also has spray-painted a U.S.-Mexico border fence in Tijuana, Mexico, with an image of a gagged Trump.
The group's other projects have included putting the names of African-Americans killed by police over the inlaid stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and painting the words This Land Was Our Land across an unused airstrip in the Mojave Desert.

This video is all about walking tour from Statue of Liberty/Island and Ellis Island in Battery park by Statue Cruises 2018. People are returning from Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It is very nice and suny day in Battery park, downtown Manhattan, New York City. (USA) this the best and best walking tour guid line or video from statue cruises and Ellis Island.
The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City, in the United States. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the U.S. as the United States' busiest immigrant inspection station for over 60 years[8] from 1892 until 1954. Ellis Island was opened January 1, 1892. The island was greatly expanded with land reclamation between 1892 and 1934. Before that, the much smaller original island was the site of Fort Gibson and later a naval magazine. The island was made part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965 and has hosted a museum of immigration since 1990.
The Battery (formerly known as Battery Park) is a 25-acre (10 ha) public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island in New York City facing New York Harbor. The park and surrounding area is named for the artillery batteries that were positioned there in the city's early years to protect the settlement behind them.

New York, New York - Battery Park / Clinton Castle HD (2012)
New York, New York - Battery Park
Battery Park is a 25-acre (10 hectare) public park located at the Battery, the southern tip of Manhattan Island in New York City, facing New York Harbor. The Battery is named for artillery batteries that were positioned there in the city's early years in order to protect the settlement behind them. At the north end of the park is Castle Clinton, the often re-purposed last remnant of the defensive works that inspired the name of the park; Pier A, formerly a fireboat station; and Hope Garden, a memorial to AIDS victims. At the other end is Battery Gardens restaurant, next to the United States Coast Guard Battery Building. Along the waterfront, Statue Cruises offers ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The park is also the site of the East Coast Memorial which commemorates U.S. servicemen who died in coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean during World War II, and several other memorials.
To the northwest of the park lies Battery Park City, a planned community built on landfill in the 1970s and 80s, which includes Robert F. Wagner Park and the Battery Park City Promenade. Together with Hudson River Park, a system of greenspaces, bikeways and promenades now extend up the Hudson shoreline. A bikeway might be built through the park that will connect the Hudson River and East River parts of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. Across State Street to the northeast stands the old U.S. Customs House, now used as a branch of the National Museum of the American Indian and the district U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Peter Minuit Plaza abuts the southeast end of the park, directly in front of the South Ferry Terminal of the Staten Island Ferry.
