ORIGIN OF HORIKOSHI SHRINE
Said to have been built during the reign of the 33rd emperor while Shitennoji Temple was under construction, Prince Shotoku established this shrine in memory of his uncle, the 32nd emperor of Japan. Horikoshi is one of Shitennoji's seven shrines. There was a beautiful canal to the south of the premises until the Meiji period. They say the shrine was named Horikoshi because visitors to the shrine had to cross (koshi) the canal (hori). The ancient Kubotsu Oji shrine is also located on the shrine grounds. Although the shrine faces busy Tanimachi-suji, it has a number of trees - some of which are hundreds of years old - that make the shrine itself a very quiet place. The people of Osaka even have a saying about the historically beloved shrine, The god of Horikoshi will grant you a once in a lifetime wish.

25 Things to do in Osaka | Japan Travel Guide ????????
In this Japan travel guide, we are sharing 25 things to do in Osaka!
Affectionately known as Japan’s Kitchen, Osaka was the first stop of our trip to Japan and a wonderful place to eat! We dove straight into the local cuisine visiting markets, street food stalls, and restaurants that required ordering from ticket vending machines.
But our trip to Osaka (大阪市) wasn’t all food. In between all the eating, we also managed to visit towering skyscrapers, hidden temples, and retro gaming arcades - all of them complete surprises.
So if you’re curious about what there is to see and do in this city, stick around and let us show you 25 things to do in Osaka, Japan!

Transportation in Osaka, Japan:
Now a quick note on transportation in Osaka (大阪市). When it comes to getting around the city, subways and trains are your best bet.
We spent our first few days buying one-way tickets and day passes, which in retrospect was a bit of a headache. The easiest thing to do is to get a prepaid card where you can load money as needed.
Osaka’s version of this card is called Icoca, but you can also use Pasmo and Suica in the city.
And that’s a wrap for our Osaka travel guide. We hope you found this video helpful and that it gave you some ideas of things to do in Osaka on your own trip.
If you have any other suggestion of things to do in Osaka that you think we missed on this visit, feel free to share your suggestions with fellow travellers in the comments below.

Exploring Shitennoji Temple, Making Friends & Tennoji Park on Day 3: Beth in Japan
This morning we had the chance to chill and explore our first Temple which was really interesting and had some beautiful buildings! We got there earlier than most so it was nice and empty for a bit.
On our way out we made friends with people from South Korea who we spoke to for probably a good 40 mins? We had time to look around Tonnoji Park too before it was time to head over to Universal Studios! xD
Stay tuned for the next video where we explore Universal for the rest of the day! xD
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it :D

Namba Yasaka Shrine | Japan 2016 | Episode 21
The impressive lion head building might lure you here, but Namba Yasaka Shrine is much more than that. It’s a beautiful and quiet little corner in the Namba district of Osaka. The shrine itself is extremely beautiful, a white structure with impressive roof lines adorned with gleaming gold accents. It’s easy to access and well worth a visit. A great place to sit and relax, and take in the sites of this little shrine complex.
We spent a good part of the rest of our day exploring the shopping arcades in and around Dotonbori. We stumbled upon Hozenji Temple famous for its moss covered Buddhist statues. It was actually quite unexpected to find it nestled in a side alley off the main shopping drags.
As day was beginning to change to night we found ourselves in what looked like a love hotel area of Osaka, finding some odd establishments catering to short-term stays. We were on our way to another temple which unfortunately was closed by the time we arrived. But things turned up as we strolled through Osakas Kitchen on our way back to our train station. It was a blast looking at all things kitchen, and finding a food stall selling off their prepared foods at a discount. We loaded up and had a quiet meal in our hotel room overlooking views of Osaka at night.
It was our last night in Osaka and instead of jumping into bed which after eating was a very welcoming thought, we decided to take a walk to Osaka City Hall looking for some illuminations.
It was a fantastic day, come along and see what we got up to!

Shitennoji Temple (四天王寺)
Shitennoji is the oldest Temple in Osaka. It was built more than 1400 years ago, in 593 AD. There is a time of peacefully thinking about history for each boisterous time enjoyed in this city full of energy. This is the secret of the right balance for a memorable trip.
