'The Queen's Life Guard', mounted on immaculately groomed horses with breastplates shinning in the sun, present a stirring sight as they ride through the streets of London to Change the Guard on Horse Guards Parade.
The Queen's Life Guard is normally provided by men of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment which consists of a Squadron of The Life Guards, who wear red tunics and white plumed helmets, and a Squadron of The Blues and Royals with blue tunics and red plumed helmets.
The Blues and Royals were formed in 1969 when The Royal Horse Guards, which was known as 'The Blues' or 'The Oxford Blues', and The Royal Dragoons, which was known as 'The Royals' were merged.
They are the only regiment in the British Army officially known by their nickname, 'The Blues and Royals, Instead of being known as the Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons.
Their battle honors stretch back to Tangiers 1662-1680 and include the Battle of Waterloo where they captured the Napoleonic Eagle of the French 105th Infantry Regiment.
The Blues and Royals wear blue tunics and metal helmets with red plumes. Except for the Trumpeters who ride greys, they ride black horses .
During poor weather they may wear a long blue cloak with a red collar.
The Household Cavalry Museum is situated at Horse Guards, in the heart of historic London.
Horse Guards, dating from 1750 is still the headquarters of the Household Division, where the Household Cavalry has changed the Queen?s Life Guard in a daily ceremony that has remained broadly unchanged for over 350 years.
The museum is not just a dazzling display of uniforms, weaponry and priceless artifacts it is a living museum which provides a behind the scenes look the ceremonial and operational roles of the Household Cavalry.
At the Household Cavalry Museum you can see the troopers, in the original 18th century stables, working with their horses through a large glazed partition. Hear compelling personal stories, first hand accounts of the troopers' rigorous and demanding training.
This may not be one of the largest museums you will find in London but audio guides, interactive displays and the chance to try on the uniform of Her Majesty The Queen's Life Guard combined with collection of stunning rare objects make the Household Cavalry Museum well worth the visit.

Changing the Guard -- Horse Guards Parade, London
Horse Guard in London, England ★1080p HD★
One of the horse guards that guard an entrance to the Horse Guards building in central London, England.
Information provided by Wikipedia:
Horse Guards is normally guarded by troopers of the Household Cavalry, both mounted and on foot; visiting the horses is popular with tourists. Two mounted cavalry troopers are posted outside daily from 10 am to 4 pm, and are relieved every hour. Also two Troopers are posted from 10 am till 8 pm and are relieved every 2 hours. There is the changing of the guard at 11am everyday but on Sundays is brought forward to 10am. Also there is the inspection of the guard that takes place at 4pm everyday which dates back to when Queen Victoria came through the entrance but didn't find anybody there due to the fact that they were drunk on ale. As a result she ordered the Household Cavalry to parade at 4 pm every day for a 100 years just to make sure it didn't happen again. It has been over 30 years since the hundred years order ended but the Household Cavalry still carry out this tradition. There are usually guided tours of the building on London Open House weekend, which takes place in September.
Guard Changing Ceremony - Horse Guards, London
The Guard Changing Ceremony by Queen's Life Guards (Life Guards and Blues and Royals) from Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR) at Horse Guards and Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, London.
The guard is usually provided by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, with the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals alternating.
This is a different event from the Changing the Guard ceremony (Guard Mounting) performed at Buckingham Palace by the Queen's Guards.
The Queen's Life Guard is provided by men of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR) at Horse Guards.
The HCMR consists of a Squadron of The Life Guards, who wear red tunics and white plumed helmets, and a Squadron of The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons) with blue tunics and red plumed helmets.
In early times the Guard was as much as 100 strong and provided Escorts to accompany the Sovereign if he or she travelled by road. It now consists of either a Long Guard or a Short Guard.
Long Guard
When The Queen is in London, the Guard consists of 1 Officer, 1 Corporal Major (who carries the Standard), 2 Non-Commissioned Officers, 1 Trumpeter and 10 Troopers. This is known as a Long Guard.
Short Guard
When Her Majesty is not resident in London, the Guard is reduced to 2 Non-Commissioned Officers and 10 Troopers.
Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted the Queen's Life Guard on this spot since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660 and remains the official entrance to St James's and Buckingham Palace. This is why The Queen's Life Guard is still mounted here. Apart from members of the Royal Family or cavalrymen on duty, everyone needs the Sovereign's permission in the form of an Ivory Pass to either drive or ride through Horse Guards.
The Guard Changing Ceremony takes place each weekday at 11 o'clock and at 10 o'clock on Sundays. The mounted sentries (who change every hour) are on duty each day from 10am until 4pm, at which time there is a dismounted parade of the Guard. There are two dismounted sentries on duty until the gates are shut at 8pm, when only one sentry is left on guard until 7am when the second sentry returns on duty. No one, unless in possession of the password, can gain admission to Horse Guards after the gates have been closed.

Household Cavalry Life Guards 4 O'clock Inspection
DONT F**K WITH THE QUEENS GUARD (HERE IS WHY)
Although formerly the guards were able to be positioned among the public, in recent times, more and more of the sentry posts have been moved away from the public because of incidents involving tourists interfering with the guards' job. Most recently, the sentry posts at Clarence House were moved behind a chain linked fence when a guardsman in the Coldstream Guards assaulted a tourist who was mocking him, pretending to march alongside him and eventually grabbing the shoulder on which his rifle was resting. In London, the only open sentry posts remaining not usually behind any sort fence are those at the Pall Mall entrance to St James's Palace
