Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a United States National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site that straddles the ridgeline of the Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are a division of the larger Appalachian Mountain chain.
It is the most visited national park in the United States. The border between Tennessee and North Carolina runs northeast to southwest through the centerline of the park. On its route from Maine to Georgia, the Appalachian Trail also passes through the center of the park. The park was chartered by the United States Congress in 1934 and officially dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940.
It encompasses 522,419 acres (816.28 sq mi; 211,415.47 ha; 2,114.15 km2), making it one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States. The main park entrances are located along U.S. Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Road) at the towns of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Cherokee, North Carolina. It was the first national park whose land and other costs were paid for in part with federal funds; previous parks were funded wholly with state money or private funds.

Today, we will be checking out the brand new trail network in Cherokee, North Carolina: Fire Mountain. Fire Mountain boasts around 11 miles of fresh cut singletrack, and it's just the beginning.
I joined up with my friends Stout Paul, Ty, and Theresia to check this place out for the very first time, and to sample the newest addition to wnc which has already begun to receive some positive talk.
The real question is though, can this take down the classic Ridgeline trail in DuPont?

Why do families who experience a Cherokee area vacation never venture anywhere else? Because Cherokee is at the heart of a four state mountain paradise with thousands of attractions. More than you can see and do in a week, a month or a year, but a lifetime of fascinating natural splendors wrapped in the three most treasured brands of hospitality on Earth … Native American hospitality, Southern hospitality and Mountain hospitality.
The beautiful town of Cherokee is anchored by the world-class accommodations and games of Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, but beyond the tables, suites and eclectic cuisine are three thousand waterfalls and hundreds of historic sites wrapped in mountains more than a million years old.
These are the same tourist videos that are being seen by tens of thousands of hotel guests daily from the Visitors' Information Channels TV shows. Mingo Falls - Short Hike - Cherokee - North Carolina
When your in Cherokee or Maggie Valley, North Carolina visting these waterfalls is something to do. Finding them is sometimes not easy, but with some research they can be found. This one has a few steps to climb, but is relatively an easy hike. There is plenty of viewing to be had once at the bottom of the falls, and it appears there may be some alternate trails that are not clearly marked.
