These are some action pictures of Station 28 located in the Galleria District in Houston, Texas. They are a collection of pictures from the World Trade Center where we lost 343 brother and sister firefighters of FDNY. The station is somewhat of a museum with Michael Smith as the caretaker. The latter portion are of our Line of Duty Deaths.

Rotary Firefighters Home Project - Houston, TX
The Rotary Club of University Area Houston cast a vision of building a home for Firefighters seeking medical treatment in the Houston Medical Center. We have partnered with the Houston Fire Department and the Firefighters Union to create this needed facility. The Rotary Firefighters Home will provide free housing for firefighters and their caregivers from around the world while seeking treatment at MD Anderson and other local hospitals in the Houston Medical Center area.
Firefighters from around the world risk their lives daily to save our lives and our property. During their career they subject themselves to hazardous chemicals and toxins that often lead to cancer and other serious medical conditions. Insurance does not cover their living expenses while seeking specialized treatment away from home that can last for weeks or months. Finding housing near the Houston Medical Center is often very expensive and there are long waiting lists for low cost temporary housing.
Our purpose is to provide free housing for firefighters and their caretakers during their medical treatments at the Houston Medical Center.
Please consider donating your time, talent or treasure to assist us in building this worthy project. For more information, please email: info@rotaryfirefightershome.org or visit rotaryfirefightershome.org
Thank you and God Bless our Brave Firefighters from around the world!

Remembering Texas City by Robert Roten
The Texas City disaster occurred on April 16, 1947 in Texas City, Texas and was the worst industrial accident in United States history. The explosion, originating as a fire on the SS Grandcamp that quickly spread, killed 581 people and injured thousands more. Following the event, stricter safety procedures and regulations were enforced in the petrochemical industry. Monsanto Company, whose plant and offices were destoyed, committed with other companies to rebuild in Texas City and helped propel the city to a prosperous future.
Robert Roten was raised in Texas City and experienced the Texas City disaster in 1947. Mr. Roten graduated from the University of Texas and worked for Monsanto Company for the next 25 years. He was involved in the leveraged buyout of the Monsanto plant in Texas City and the formation of Sterling Chemicals, eventually retiring as CEO of the company. He has been married to his wife, Carole, for 64 years, is an active member of Grace Presbyterian of Houston, and continues to participate in the growth of Texas City. The film was produced by Andy Hollan, narrated by Nowrin Amin, and edited by Evan Amin.

BLOG:
The Houston Art Car Ball is a social gathering of sorts for art car participants and enthusiasts alike. Art car parade participants interact with the host community. Trust me, this is usually the best time of the year drawing thousands of people into the streets. Art paraders constantly overflow venues with their artsy cars in tow. Art ball would definitely give Halloween a run for its money because of the interesting costume worn by participants.
The genesis of art car can be traced to Houston artist, Jackie Harris in early 1970s. He magically turned a car with paint and plastic fruit to art all on a budget of $800. That was perhaps the first creative demonstration of art on a mobile object. Ann Haritas, an artist, started “Collision”. Collision was an exhibition at Lawndale art center where Ann featured two art cars. Gradually, others with same interests chirped in and made their contributions. 1986 was the year that history rewarded the campaign of Art Cars in the United States when Rachel Hecker and Trish Herrera organized a New Music Parade. Twenty artist floats and art cars thumped down Montrose Boulevard during the event attracting the media too. The whole texture of art car display started taking shape when Susanne Demchak put together a road show in June 29, 1986 showing low rider demonstrations and children art bike workshops.
The following year, Orange show, under the request of Houston festival international, organized an art parade that is now the platform for art car enthusiasts in Houston and environs. Roadside attractions: The Art Car Parade started in April 1988 with a demonstration involving 40 cars while 2000 spectators cheered on. Two years later, Harrod Blank documented the rainbow scourge of art cars in America and those behind it in a movie and two books. This singular event caused an implosion of art car creativity all over America. Art car artists travel miles to join the parade in Houston every year.
The art car museum was established in February 1998 and has become the silver sanctuary in Houston, Texas for art car creators nationwide. The art museum is passionate about promoting a creative art that in past time was shunned in mainstream and cultural art industry. Art cars, fine arts and other eccentric forms of art have a room for sanity and exposure in the museum. The museum highlights lowriders, mobile contraptions and elaborate art cars while encouraging community exhibitions.

Wall of Honor Badge Placement for Ofc. Richard K. Martin | Houston Police Department
On May 3, 2016, the badge worn by fallen officer Richard K. Martin was officially retired into the Wall of Honor in a private ceremony held at the Houston Police Memorial Museum at 1200 Travis.
Officer Martin was killed on Monday, May 18, 2015, responding to assist his fellow officers in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. However, the suspect deliberately swerved his stolen vehicle into Officer Martin, killing him instantly.
Funeral services were held at Grace Community Church on May 22, 2015. Full military and police honors were rendered for Officer Martin, who was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. He is survived by his two children and their mother.
