The Hudson River is a 315-mile (507 km) river that flows from north to south primarily through eastern New York in the United States. The river originates in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, flows through the Hudson Valley, and eventually drains into the Atlantic Ocean, between New York City and Jersey City. The river serves as a political boundary between the states of New Jersey and New York, and further north between New York counties. The lower half of the river is a tidal estuary occupying the Hudson Fjord, which formed during the most recent period of North American glaciation, estimated at 26,000 to 13,300 years ago. Tidal waters influence the Hudson's flow from as far north as Troy.
The river is named after Henry Hudson, an Englishman sailing for the Dutch East India Company, who explored it in 1609, and after whom Canada's Hudson Bay is also named. It had previously been observed by Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano sailing for King Francis I of France in 1524, as he became the first European known to have entered the Upper New York Bay, but he considered the river to be an estuary. The Dutch called the river the North River – with the Delaware River called the South River – and it formed the spine of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. Settlements of the colony clustered around the Hudson, and its strategic importance as the gateway to the American interior led to years of competition between the English and the Dutch over control of the river and colony.

The Blue Car & Haunted House - Town of Newburgh, NY - Nov. 1969
During the late 60's and early 70's, one of our favorite places to 'play' as kids was in the forest located east of Hy View (off Rt. 32) and somewhat SxSE of The Golden Rail in the Town of Newburgh. On this video my father trailed us kids and shot 8 mm film of one of our typical expeditions to the ruins of an old stone mansion that we called the Haunted House. There was also a burned out Yellow house nearby which is not in this video (but we also played in that dangerous ruin). The video starts in a clearing just northeast of the Thornwood Apartment complex - then we walk north through the forest. The abandoned blue car was just sitting there, rotting in the middle of the woods; you can see numerous gunshot holes in it. The old stone mansion was built during the 1840's when the area was dominated by grazing cattle. There is a view of the date-stone which is hard to read, but looks like 1849. These days, very few parents would allow their kids to run loose in such an isolated forest area, but back in the 1960's this was a normal childhood. The kids in the video are Albert, Greg and Rich Garzon, and a neighborhood friend, Christopher Glynn. The music here was composed by Albert Garzon and features Dave Hudson on cello, Billy Zules on drums, and Albert on piano.

Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham.
The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale.
In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity.

Thanks to his strength and combat abilities he rises in position in the tribe and earns the respect eventually the friendship of Tars Tarkas one of the Thark chiefs.
The Tharks subsequently capture Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, a member of the humanoid red Martian race. The red Martians inhabit a loose network of city states and control the desert planet's canals, along which its agriculture is concentrated. Lincoln's Ghost Train | Behind the Haunting #007
In this live video we will dive deep into the paranormal claims and reports about the ghostly apparition of the entire train that was used to transport President Abraham Lincoln from Washington D.C. back to Springfield, Ill. a.k.a. Lincolns Ghost Train (1865).
There are varying accounts of spectral funeral train sightings (Lincolns Ghost Train) of the old Union silently traveling through the night. Those who have seen the vision report that they have seen a train car draped in black housing a casket surrounded by mourners guarded by skeletal remains dressed in blue uniforms. The smoke stacks billow and bells clang but not of this time and place. A popular version of this story is one that has been retold many times stemming from a quote in the Albany Evening Times. This version is taken from The Pittsburgh Press (1978).
The train (Lincolns Ghost Train) always appeared in Albany on April 27th, the anniversary of its first passing. Track walkers and section hands would sit along the railroad tracks in the early evening of the fateful day and wait for the ghost train to come into view. At midnight—always at midnight—the engine would emerge from the darkness, moving silently down the track with black crepe flowing from its sides and emitting faintly audible sounds of funeral music.
The phantom train (Lincolns Ghost Train) would glide over a black carpet that appeared to cover the tracks, while spectral solders in blue uniforms, of the Union army trotted along side it. As the apparition moved down the tracks, it would fade from view over some phantom horizon

A day-long symposium on Juneteenth, one of the oldest observances marking the end of the enslavement of African descendants in the United States. The holiday has been celebrated in Galveston, Texas, since June 19, 1865, when news of the Emancipation Proclamation first was announced in Texas. Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom with an emphasis on education and literacy. The opened with a history of Juneteenth.
