Just before my birthday, I met Mr. Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt in Bucharest
After the book launch event, Mr. Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt signed autographs for 2 hours on his books published by Humanitas Fiction for the literature lovers that came the at the bookshop. I was one of the those hundreds of people and I am really grateful for this new wonderful opportunity of speaking to my favorite living author :) Verbs describe us #books #author

Bucharest In Your Pocket - Piaţa Revoluţiei (Revolution Square)
It was here, on Piaţa Revoluţiei (Revolution Square), at around midday on December 21, 1989, that the Ceauşescu regime began to crumble. A white marble triangle, with the inscription Glorie martirilor nostri (Glory to our martyrs), points (slightly innacurately) to the low balcony above the entrance of the former Central Committee building (today the INterior Ministry) from where Nicolae Ceauşescu held his last public speech. It is today difficult to imagine all that went on the not so distant past, as the area is quiet, but the (deliberately preserved) bullet holes on the building opposite (above the Humanitas book shop) are a reminder of the madness of those December days. After initial protests here (which forced Ceauşescu to abondon a speech) the crowd was fired upon, and dispersed, only to regroup in Piaţa Universităţii.

European Voices: A Reading and Conversation with Romanian author Mircea Cartarescu
A reading and conversation with Romanian author Mircea Cartarescu and a celebration of the publication by Archipelago Books of the first volume of Blinding, one of the most widely heralded literary sensations in contemporary Romania, and a bestseller from the day of its release. The discussion was moderated by Delia Ungureanu, Assistant Professor at the University of Bucharest and Visiting Lecturer in Harvard's Department of Comparative Literature. This event took place as part of our European Voices series -- an ongoing series of conversations with artists and writers, activists and intellectuals exploring questions at the intersection of politics and culture. Co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Europe and literary journal AGNI.

The book launch event on 29 Oct 2007 for the book Marie of Romania. Images of a Queen by Diana Mandache at the National Museum of History Bucharest in TVR1 news.
This book is the first pictorial chronicle of Queen Marie illustrating the life, times and legacy of this flamboyant Balkan monarch of English and Russian extraction. It represents a vivid insight into the European royal circles and events of the late Victorian era and inter-war period. Queen Marie of Romania is famous for her glamorous lifestyle and literary pursuits, but also for her charitable work on the frontline during First World War and the unofficial diplomatic representation of her country at the post-war peace conference. She was a highly qualified witness of a period of great historical upheavals and transformations and this record in images is a tribute to her memory.

Ioana Pârvulescu, invitată la Dialoguri cu Scriitori Români
Inivtată la Dialoguri cu Scriitori Români: Ioana Pârvulescu
miercuri, 30 aprilie 2014, de la ora 19:00
Moderatoare: Nadine Vlădescu
***
