Virginia's Oldest Covered Bridge. It was built in 1857 and spans the Dunlap Creek with 108'. The hump of the bridge rises 4 feet higher than the portals. Recently restored, it is a beautiful and unique covered bridge.

Beautiful Place #130 Historic Covington Virginia Alleghany Mountains Small Town America
I love exploring old small towns anywhere and this little town is representing and holding on . Walking around this town brought me back to what it must have been like in its hey Day .
People were friendly and I found some great shots walking around Main Street and down town . It really is a beautiful little town , some parts and buildings are in need of restoration and hope they get restored. We need small towns like this to remind us of our past .

VDOT: Humpback Bridge restoration
VDOT recently used funds from the National Historic Covered Bridge Program to restore the Humpback Bridge in Alleghany County. Built in 1857, Humpback is Virginia's oldest covered bridge. It is a National Historic Landmark and the only bridge of its kind remaining in America.
Falling Springs Waterfall, Covington, VA
10.30.08 - The drought has really dried up this 200 ft waterfall to just a thin stream of what it once was! It's located on Rt 220 just outside of Covington, VA. I took beautiful pics here over 10 yrs ago at which time you didn't have a parking lot but you could work your way down the hill to the bottom of the falls. That's all changed now.

A derecho was in Covington, Virginia on June 29th 2012. It did some major damage. In the beginning of the video you will see some of the storm. At the end you will see some damages. Lake Moomaw, Covington, Virginia
Enjoy our camping trip to Lake Moomaw. Such a fun lake to enjoy in our kayaks. gorgeous views. They have several camping spots in this area. Bolar Mtn. Campground. At this end of the video I share a few dark bits just to give ya a feel of the bugs making lots of noise & a few bits of area campers making noises too. You will see our camp fire. It appeared to have more light at the time. ( :
