NEW YORK -- U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday will travel to New York City. The Democratic Party presidential candidate will host the first of three rallies in Washington Square Park, followed by Prospect Park on Sunday and Hunter's Point South Park on Monday. The campaign stops will feature special guests Spike Lee, Rosario Dawson, Shailene Woodley, Vampire Weekend, Linda Sarsour, Tim Robbins, Graham Nash, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Danny DeVito, Justin Long, Grizzly Bear, Danny Glover, Fisher Stevens and TV on the Radio. Sanders will discuss a wide range of issues, including getting big money out of politics, his plan to make public colleges and universities tuition-free, combating climate change and ensuring universal health care.

Bernie Sanders rallies at Long Island City's Hunter’s Point South Park; TV on the Radio performs Bernie Sanders supporters packed a Queens park on Monday night for the Democratic presidential candidate's final New York City rally before Tuesday's primary. You all look beautiful, and you all look like you want a political revolution, Sanders said to a cheering crowd at Hunter's Point South Park along Long Island City's waterfront. Sanders told the audience that a large voter turnout for Tuesday's New York primary would lead to a victory against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Tomorrow, let us all do everything we can to make sure that New York state has the largest turnout in a Democratic primary in its history, he said. Tomorrow, New York state can help take this country a giant step forward in the political revolution. Sanders slammed a rigged economy and said that America would invest in our people, not give tax breaks to billionaires, if he is elected president. He spoke about a broken criminal justice system and vowed to bring reform to local police departments all over the country. While he said the vast majority of officers are honest and hardworking, he said that any cop who breaks the law must be held accountable.
We have got to demilitarize local police departments, he said. We have got to make police departments as diverse as the communities they serve.
The Vermont senator criticized Clinton for her paid speeches and told the crowd that she has said she'll release those speech transcripts if other candidates do the same. He then said he'd release all the transcripts of the speeches that he gave behind closed doors to Wall Street -- of which there are none.
He also slammed Wall Street's greed, recklessness and illegal behavior, which he said has hurt millions of Americans.
Sanders had a message for corporate America: Get nervous if Bernie Sanders is elected president.
The presidential hopeful spoke out in favor of equal pay for women, saying that women can't get by on 79 cents for every dollar that a man makes. The women in this country want the whole damn dollar, he said.
He also reiterated his calls for a $15 per hour minimum wage across the U.S. and criticized Clinton, who has called for a $12 per hour minimum wage.
TV on the Radio performed at the rally earlier in the evening. Actor Danny Glover spoke before introducing Sanders, saying that it's time for Americans to make a choice on how to change the world, change our lives.
LIC resident Mike Smith, 36, a dual citizen who grew up in Switzerland, was among the rally attendees.
I'm familiar with a lot of the things he's saying and I think they're the right things, said Smith, who works in marketing. While he doesn't expect to hear Sanders say anything new, he wanted to be there to really feel the Bern, to feel the energy.
He added, It's great to really be here and be a part of it.
Faith Birchall, 59, said she followed and supported Sanders before he started running for president.
I'm really inspired, said Birchall, who lives in Jamaica, Queens. He's a candidate with a lot of integrity. He's dedicated to doing something about income inequality.
Birchall said she has been wanting to go to a rally for a while and was finally able to make it on Monday to the final NYC rally before New Yorkers cast their ballots on Tuesday.
I'm very hopeful that he wins tomorrow, she said. You just don't find a candidate who has this much integrity. He's very sincere, he's so bold.
Student Szymon Paczkowski, 25, came from Yonkers to hear Sanders speak.
I think out of all the candidates, he's the best to represent the values most people share, said Paczkowski, originally from Holland. I wanted to be with people to feel the [solidarity].
Sanders drew a crowd of about 27,000 at Wednesday's Washington Square Park rally, according to his campaign. About 28,000 people turned out for his Prospect Park rally on Sunday, the campaign tweeted.
The Democratic presidential candidate also held rallies in Midwood, Greenpoint and Coney Island earlier this month.

I had the opportunity to shoot this park one week before it opened. it felt like one of the hottest days of my life.

Sunnyside is a middle-class neighborhood in the Western portion of the New York City borough of Queens. It shares borders with Hunters Point and Long Island City to the west, Astoria to the north, Woodside to the east and Maspeth to the south. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community District 2, served by Queens Community Board 2. The neighborhood's boundaries correspond roughly with those of ZIP code 11104, an area of nearly 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) with a population of around 27,000. It contains the Sunnyside Gardens Historic District, one of the first planned communities in the United States.
The name Sunnyside originates with the Bragraw family, French Huguenots who had purchased the land in 1713 and named their estate Sunnyside Hill. Sunnyside was a rural hamlet mostly consisting of small farms and marshland. It was incorporated into Long Island City in 1870, and developed into a bedroom community after the Queensboro Bridge was completed in 1909. A large portion of the neighborhood is six-story apartment buildings constructed during the 1920s and 1930s.

Long Island City has truly become the New Drone Capital of New York City. Not being able to fly in Manhattan, this has become an alternate spot for using the 400 x 400 drone rule. When it comes to flying tall structures over 400 feet the 400 x 400 drone rule allows you to do so.

Long Island City (LIC) is the westernmost residential and commercial neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. LIC is noted for its rapid and ongoing residential growth and gentrification, its waterfront parks, and its thriving arts community. LIC has among the highest concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and studio space of any neighborhood in New York City.
Long Island City was once home to many factories and bakeries, some of which are finding new uses. The former Silvercup bakery is now home to Silvercup Studios, which has produced notable works such as NBC's 30 Rock and HBO's Sex and the City. The Silvercup sign is visible from the IRT Flushing Line and BMT Astoria Line trains going into and out of Queensboro Plaza. The former Sunshine Bakery is now one of the buildings which houses LaGuardia Community College. Other buildings on the campus originally served as the location of the Ford Instrument Company, which was at one time a major producer of precision machines and devices. Artist Isamu Noguchi converted a photo-engraving plant into a workshop; the site is now the Noguchi Museum, a space dedicated to his work.
The Standard Motor Products headquarters, a manufacturing site producing items like distributor caps, was once located in the industrial neighborhood of Long Island City until purchased by Acuman Partners in 2008 for $40M. The Standard Motor Products Building was put on the market by Acuman in 2014 and acquired by RXR Realty, LLC for $110M. The former factory built in 1919 now houses the Jim Henson Company, Society Awards, and a commercial rooftop farm run by Brooklyn Grange.
High-rise housing is being built on a former Pepsi-Cola site on the East River. From June 2002 to September 2004, the former Swingline Staplers plant was the temporary headquarters of the Museum of Modern Art. Other former factories in Long Island City include Fisher Electronics and Chiclets Gum. Long Island City's turn-of-the-century district of residential towers, called Queens West, is located along the East River, just north of the LIRR's Long Island City Station. Redevelopment in Queens West reflects the intent to have the area as a major residential area in New York City, with its high-rise residences very close to public transportation, making it convenient for commuters to travel to Manhattan by ferry or subway. The first tower, the 42-floor Citylights, opened in 1998 with an elementary school at the base. Others have been completed since then and more are being planned or under construction.
Today, the most prominent structure, other than Queensboro Bridge, is the community's green skyscraper, the 658-foot (201 m) Citicorp Building built in 1989 on Courthouse Square. It is the tallest building on Long Island and in any of the New York City boroughs outside Manhattan. Socioeconomic diversity is very visible in Long Island City; the Queensbridge Houses are composed of over 3,000 units, making it the largest public housing complex in North America.
It is bordered by Astoria to the north; the East River to the west; Hazen Street, 49th Street, and New Calvary Cemetery in Sunnyside to the east; and Newtown Creek—which separates Queens from Greenpoint, Brooklyn—to the south. It originally was the seat of government of the Town of Newtown, and remains the largest neighborhood in Queens. The area is part of Queens Community Board 1, located north of the Queensboro Bridge and Queens Plaza; it is also of Queens Community Board 2 to the south.
Long Island City is the eastern terminus of the Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge, which is the only non-toll automotive route connecting Queens and Manhattan. Northwest of the bridge terminus are the Queensbridge Houses, a development of the New York City Housing Authority and the largest public housing complex in North America.
⁴ᴷ Exploring Abandoned NYC LIRR Rockaway Beach Branch near Forest Park, Queens

The Rockaway Beach Branch was a rail line owned and operated by the Long Island Rail Road in Queens, New York City, United States. The line left the Main Line at Whitepot Junction in Rego Park heading south via Ozone Park and across Jamaica Bay to Hammels in the Rockaways, turning west there to a terminal at Rockaway Park. Along the way it connected with the Montauk Branch near Glendale, the Atlantic Branch near Woodhaven, and the Far Rockaway Branch at Hammels.
After a 1950 fire, the Jamaica Bay bridge was closed and the line south of Ozone Park sold to the city, which rehabilitated the portion south of Liberty Avenue and connected it to the New York City Subway system as the IND Rockaway Line. The portion north of the subway connection was closed in 1962, and three proposals exist for the reuse of the line.
Legacy and planned restoration
The city never filed to abandon the isolated section of double trackage between Elmhurst and Ozone Park, due to the intended connection to the IND Queens Boulevard Line subway. This had been proposed under the IND Second System and later by Robert Moses, with an existing provision at the 63rd Drive subway station for a future connection to Whitepot Junction. An additional plan proposed a connection to the BMT Jamaica Line around the Brooklyn Manor station. However, in October 1955 shortly after LIRR service on the Queens portion of the Far Rockaway Branch ended, it was decided to terminate subway service at Liberty Avenue, with only the connection to the Fulton Street El completed. The right-of-way was sold to the City of New York and is now in most sections administered by the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), except for a 7 acres (2.8 ha) section in Forest Park that has been mapped as parkland. The line remains officially out of service and is known by locals as the forgotten spur, a name which dates back to the mid-1950s when the subway plans for the spur were dropped. Much of the original infrastructure has either been removed, damaged, rotted or undermined, though some rails, wooden ties, electrical towers and even de-electrified third rails can still be found in some sections, with much of it dating from 1908 or earlier, when the line was originally electrified. The failure to reactivate the northern portion of the line had been attributed to the potential high costs of connecting it to the Queens Boulevard Line, and capacity issues on the line which persist to day, making the Fulton line connection more feasible.
The line is a regular haunt for hikers, homeless, and such. The right-of-way can be easily be seen, especially along the abandoned elevated embankment in Woodhaven and Ozone Park. With exception to areas around the former junction with the Montauk Branch that have been redeveloped, and the Logan Bus Company lot, the line in its entirety is owned by the City of New York. The line is encroached by a number of adjacent property owners, which is an obstacle for anything to be done with the right-of-way.
There are proposals for rail service and a rail trail on this right-of-way. One proposal juxtaposes both plans.

Orchard Beach, known as the Riviera of the Bronx, is a small. sandy oasis set alongside the quiet waterside experience within a backdrop of vast picnic lawns, sports courts and playgrounds, and surrounding forest, meadow and salt marsh.
There's a lot to do at Orchard Beach besides sunbathe, swim, and build sand castles. Twenty-six hard-surface sports courts offer opportunities for basketball, tennis, handball and volleyball. There are also two playgrounds - Pelican Playground at Section5 offer spray showers; Orchard Beach Playground ay Section 13 is on the sand. In-season, beach concessions sell food and drink, as well as beach souvenirs, toys, and necessities. Summer programming includes occasional contrast the main pavilion stage (Section 9) and Urban Park Ranger talks and walks start from the Orchard Beach Nature Center at Section 2. Nearby nature trails traverse rocky coastline, salt marsh and woodlands on Hunter and Twin Islands off the northernmost end of the promenade. Favorite fishing spots can be found along The Lagoon where you can also launch your kayak or canoe.
NYC Parks & Recreation maintains 14 miles of beaches, all of which are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.

Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park in Bronx NYC is very easy to get to, take the #6 subway to the last stop Pelham Bay Park / Bruckner Expressway then transfer to the BX29 bus and exit at Orchard Beach Circle. The beach and park are all in walking distance.

A walk through New York's Civic Center, walking through streets such as Centre Street, Broadway, Chambers Street, Duane Street, Worth Street, and Foley Square.

The Civic Center is the area of lower Manhattan, New York City, that encompasses New York City Hall, One Police Plaza, the courthouses in Foley Square, and the surrounding area. The district is bound on the west by Tribeca at Broadway, on the north by Chinatown at Worth Street or Bayard Street, on the east by the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge at South Street, and on the south by the Financial District at Ann Street.
Although government-related activities are predominant, other pursuits also occur within the district, including entertainment, industrial activity, residential dwellings, and warehousing. For example, there are Chinese restaurants near Civic Center's border with Chinatown, in addition to some museums and some residential buildings in the Civic Center area. The area is roughly 10 blocks long and 5 blocks wide, but is far less dense than most of Manhattan, where the average number of residents for an area that size is 35,000; the Civic Center has approximately 20,000 residents.
The Jacob K. Javits Federal Building is located in the area. It includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation New York field office.
Non-government buildings include the 387 feet (118 m) 15 Park Row, an office and residential building which was the city's highest from 1899 to 1908. 150 Nassau Street, a 21-story granite building, was once a publisher's building, as were many in the area, but is now a residential building, as is 38 Park Row. The 76-story 8 Spruce Street is among the world's tallest residential buildings. Southbridge Towers, once Mitchell-Lama affordable housing, is now market-rate housing.
