A Trip to Hwagye Temple in Seoul
A nice day trip. Lots of climbing exercise. Beautiful day. I somehow messed up loading GPX files into the Garmin, so no geocaching as I had planned.

K-Phile _ Sanshin _ Professor David Mason visits Hwagyesa temple
While traveling Korea, Professor David Mason fell in love with Korea's traditional culture and old stories and decided to settle down here. The idea of sanshin, the mountain spirit, that not only embodies indigenous religions but also Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, and various other religions as well as Koreans' nature-oriented thoughts has been his main subject of research. For over 30 years, Prof. Mason has traveled across the mountains of Korea and collected around 1,500 photos of sanshin. He is even starting to resemble the benevolent image of sanshin with white hair and bulging stomach, but he visits temples every chance he gets and volunteers to be a guide for foreigners trying to learn about Korean Buddhism and sanshin. Now, let's listen to his story about Buddhism and sanshin that not even many Koreans know about.

A Visit to Hwagyesa Temple (I love Seoul I Like Temple-Hanyang University-Team F)
It was an amazing experience to feel meditation during hiking quietly and feeling the environment only. The making of Lotus flower was also a unique experience in the temple. Thank you ChamEducation and all other organizers for arranging such a informative and spiritual tour.
Korea Vlog | What's a Temple Stay Like in South Korea?
Temple stays aren't just for other awesome countries like China and Japan. They're a pretty common occurrence in South Korea and oftentimes in very stunning locations. Buddhism became shunned at one point in South Korea so many monks fled to the mountains and built a life for themselves there. On the third day of the FAM tour we were able to experience making songpyeon (traditional Korean rice cake), eating bibimbap made for a king, and traveling to Gangnueng to check out the facilities for the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics. Afterwards we were able to go to a temple and experience life in simplicity and peace the way a monk would.
Thank you so much to the Korea Tourism Organization, the Seoul Tourism Organization, Gangwondo, and Gyeonggido for hosting this fam tour and giving me all these amazing experiences. As always, all thoughts and opinions remain my own.

A visit to the Jinkwansa Temple in Seoul Korea
A highlight of my recent Seoul adventure was an afternoon spent at the Jinkwansa Temple ( one of the four main temples around Seoul. We toured the buildings and had a monastic lunch, made solely of good vegetables. We then had the opportunity to meet the Mother Superior and have tea with her.
The temple is a unique cultural experience and also offers a temple stay program. In addition to a great destination for visitors, it's also a great site for meetings and convention trips (MICE) and is part of the Seoul MICE alliance (

TempleStay in Korea (Part 3 of 8)
Dahdoh means tea ceremony in Korean. As taking a cup of tea, they are talking about what the zen is. Zen, it sounds like difficult but sometimes it comes very clearnessly.
