We love Miami Beach ???? for the same reasons the rest of the world comes to visit us. The weather, the beaches, the unique opportunity to be in the epicenter of an international ???? cultural melting pot, the arts, architecture, etc. The ⛱Floatopia as an event has the same interest at heart as any other large event in south beach. Ultimately its locals and tourist looking to enjoy what Miami Beach has to offer. The key differences is that in the last few years it has scaled up so much that it now requires the support of city services. It is not a for profit event that has the financial means to provide its own additional security, dedicated coordinators, portable restrooms, additional garbage stations, etc. At the same time it is unrealistic to expect that a grass roots event, which started with just a few hundred people, can scale up to thousands of participants and run as smooth as the food and wine festival without any leadership.
We should recognize ⛱Floatopia not as a nuisance but rather an opportunity to have yet one more event that draws thousands of people to our great city which in turns drives the local economy such as restaurants, hotels, car rentals, tours, etc. Floatopia is great marketing for ????Miami Beach and being that it is social media (word of mouth) it is stronger and more impactful that any advertising campaign.
With the leadership from Miami Beach City Hall and with the proper amount of resources allocated to match the scale of the event Floatopia has all the potential to be positive event for the environment, its residents, visitors and local businesses.
