The Iceland Symphony Orchestra is widely praised for its performances and recordings and concerts devoted to modern music. Since 2011, the orchestra's home has been Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik. Daniiel Bjarnason is the orchestra's Artist-in- Residence and is active in a variety of roles as conductor, composer, and educator. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra has recorded for a number of international labels, including Deutsche Grammophon, BIS, Chandos and Naxos and now Sono Luminus! The Iceland Symphony Orchestra has toured in Europe and the United States.

Harpa is a concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavík, Iceland. The opening concert was held on May 4, 2011.
Harpa was designed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects in co-operation with Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. The structure consists of a steel framework clad with geometric shaped glass panels of different colours. The building was originally part of a redevelopment of the Austurhöfn area dubbed World Trade Center Reykjavík, which was partially abandoned when the financial crisis took hold. The development was intended to include a 400-room hotel, luxury apartments, retail units, restaurants, a car park and the new headquarters of Icelandic bank Landsbanki.
The completion of the structure was uncertain until the government decided in 2008 to fully fund the rest of the construction costs for the half-built concert hall. The building was given its name on the Day of Icelandic Music on 11 December 2009, prior to which it was called The Reykjavík Concert Hall and Conference Centre (Icelandic: Tónlistar- og ráðstefnuhúsið í Reykjavík). The building is the first purpose-built concert hall in Reykjavík. It houses the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the offices of The Icelandic Opera.
Harpa is operated by Portus, a company owned by the Icelandic government and the City of Reykjavík.

Suitcase Man - Hjaltalín (live with The Iceland Symphony Orchestra)
Hjaltalín is an Icelandic band that has published three albums and enjoys a wide following in their homeland. Their second album, Terminal, was chosen as the album of the year at the 2010 Icelandic music awards. They have also played throughout Europe, most notably in Roskilde and Latitude festivals (2009) and at the Sziget festival (2010).
The band Hjaltalín began as a one-act thing in the music scene of MH, a Reykjavík gymnasium (in 2004) that is renowned for harboring musicians. Things have evolved since then, personnel changed, and the band has actually changed course regarding musical styles in the meantime, although the band is certainly hard to categorize with influences ranging from modern indie rock to 60’s pop music to classical music

Tectonics is a Music Festival curated by Ilan Volkov, proudly presented by Iceland Symphony Orchestra at Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, founded in April in 2012.
How can an orchestra, the nineteenth-century beast, be more radical and experimental? Is it possible? This is one of the questions that started the journey that led to the first Tectonics festival in Reykjavík. Tectonics features programmes of classical modern music combined with other new music genres such as improvisation, electronics and rock.

Iceland Symphony Tours Japan
The Iceland Symphony Orchestra is on a concert tour in Japan with Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Iceland Symphony's Conductor Laureate, and Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii. The tour consists of concerts in all the major cities, including Tokyo, Kyoto, Sapporo, and Hamamatsu, and most of the concerts are already sold out.

The Iceland Symphony Orchestra played a very well received concert in Gothenburg in April 2017. Pianist Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson played Richard Strauss' Burleske with conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier.
The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra returns the favour and performs in Iceland Sunday March 18th. The soloist is French pianist Hélène Grimaud with conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali. Tickets at sinfonia.is.
