Heidelberg, Germany, the Complete Tour
Heidelberg is one of the prettiest and best-preserved towns in all of Germany, set in picture postcard perfection alongside the Neckar River, with a classic castle towering above. Filled with Old World charm, it’s almost like a fantasy version of an ancient German town, or something dreamed up by Disney -- but this is the real thing. Heidelberg’s historic center of picturesque early 18th century buildings, about one mile long and four blocks wide, is an ideal-sized pedestrian zone to explore on foot.
Heidelberg movie chapters; ;
00:01 introduction; 2:39 Marktplatz (Marketplace); 8:43 Hauptstrasse; 13:48 University of Heidelberg; 19:43 Bismarkplatz; 23:32 Castle; 44:21 Philosopher’s Walk; 54:52 Boat Ride; 1:05:05 Walk little lanes; 1:22:27 hotel and restaurants;
In this detailed movie we are taking you in depth for a complete look at Heidelberg. Of course we will take you to the most historic landmark of Heidelberg, the castle up on the hill, one of the most famous and beautiful in Europe. We will show you how to get up there and then we’ll take a walk in the garden and show you how to get down.
But first we’re going to explore the city itself, it has an amazing pedestrian zone filled with restaurants, shops, historic structures and always busy with lots of people.
We’ll go for a walk along the main street o lf town the Hauptstrasse, then we’ll explore the little side streets as well and we’ll take a stroll on the Philosophers Walk up on the hill overlooking the city with great views looking back at the town We’ll take a boat ride on the Neckar River all the way up to Necharsteinach and back, with many practical tips including a survey of the restaurants of town and we’ll visit the University of Heidelberg, the oldest in Germany.
This detailed movie combines 6 recent shorter films into one complete video. The individual films that make up this movie can also be seen individually in this playlist:

Visit the Grand Budapest Hotel in Görlitz!
: You can visit the Grand Budapest Hotel in Görliwood, aka Görlitz (well, the film set, anyway) with us now!
Görlitz remained almost undamaged during the Second World War and with its 4000 or so historical buildings spanning 500 years it provides a periodic atmosphere and a lot of inspiration for many filmmakers. We travelled to Görliwood to see what the attraction is, and to check out the locations for the many films shot in the atmospheric town.
You're not guaranteed to meet film stars if you go there, but there's a good chance, as it's been a favourite location for many films. If you'd been there in 2012-3 you might have bumped into Bill Murray buying a bratwurst or Ralph Fiennes and Willem Defoe enjoying a quiet drink, as Wes Anderson was shooting his Oscar-winning Grand Budapest Hotel around the town, but especially in the Art Nouveau Görlitzer Warenhaus Department Store.
The department store is deserted now (although apparently there are plans to reopen it soon) but we managed to get inside and explore. It was quite a trip to wander around the former film set, working out where the various scenes took place!
Well, it may not look like much now, but the 100 year old Görlitzer Warenhaus - that's a department store - was in fact the inside of the Grand Hotel Budapest in the film.
And although it's shut and deserted, we're going inside!
The Warenhaus last operated as a department store in 2009, when its owners went bankrupt. Since then, it's been used a few times in films, most notably as the interior of the Grand Budapest Hotel in the 2013 film.
After that, it's basically been empty, except for the occasional tourist or special interest group that have been shown round.
There are actually plans to open it as a department store once again, quite detailed ones. However, it has been delayed for a few years, now 2017, maybe 2018 - let's hope that they make it!
Now here's a shot of the main staircase from the second level.
Look at that detail on the banisters. Imagine walking down here in the old days. Quite resplendent, really.
Here you see the pillars on the top level. There's quite a lot of detail on there, and look at those three characters up there at the top; I'm not sure who they're supposed to be.
Now let's have a look at the beautiful Art Deco ceiling, which was restored in 1985.
If you look carefully here, you can see the dates and in fact the names, of the people involved in the restoration that have been put into the glass. The special technique which was employed is characterised by the use of enamel colour which is baked into the material at a temperature of 600°C, causing an effect as in a graphic.
Well, here we are on the top level, behind all those pillars.
Look at the detail along this. Quite spectacular, really; crude, but effective in a kind of way.
Anyway, we'll look round here. This is where the offices of the film people involved in the Grand Budapest Hotel were originally.
We'll look over, down into the main area, and that magnificent Art Deco roof. All three levels, and the chandeliers. They're not actually the original chandeliers, they were replaced in mid 1990.
And here's another shot of that magnificent, almost M.C. Escher-type staircase!
Well, here we are on the main staircase. It's a bit dodgy, I'll try and walk down. It's not Steadycam, but there you are, you can't have everything! A bit lumpy, I'll try and do better next time...
Helen's enjoying the scene, anyway.
And the chandeliers; magnificent, really.

This mash-up of “Something Just Like This and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 is one of our most intricate arrangements yet. When Liszt wrote music, especially for his 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies, it’s like he was piling material from several “hit songs” into a compilation of dazzling, finger-flying feats of melody and harmony. We picked our favorite themes from his staggering Second Rhapsody and wrote them right on top of the sticky melodies and chord progressions from “Something Just Like This.” The idea was inspired by our recent tour, which included a concert in the incomparable city of Budapest, where the model for this match-up was molded. We present, “Something Just Like Liszt!
Video created by Mark Robbins / Doodle Chaos
Video production management by Craig Knudsen
Typically I have to stick to public domain music so that I don’t violate copyright. This project was super exciting because I got to work with more current music thanks to the Piano Guys! One rule I follow when I make Line Rider videos is that I have to love the music I’m using. If I don’t, I’m in for a rough time because I have to replay the chosen song thousands of times while creating the track. Thankfully, I loved “Something Just like Liszt” just as much the last time I listened to it as I did the first time. When presented different options for Piano Guys music I could choose from, I immediately was inspired and knew this was the one. The entire track consists of nearly seven thousand synchronized lines which I drew all by hand in the game Line Rider. I lost track of how much time it took me to create the whole video over multiple months, but I do know it took 135 work sessions because that’s how many save files I have. My favorite part is when all 4 riders come together to the same path and travel through the starry night. This section was inspired by the original album art for the piece, and represents how the Piano Guys harmonize together as a team. Thank you to Craig Knudsen for reaching out to me, and thanks to the Piano Guys for collaborating with me. And special thanks to David Lu for his work on the custom character design and implementation. -Mark Robbins (Doodle Chaos)

11. Sea Life Aquarium, Istanbul
Completely funded by the public, thirty display forums are divided into different zones from tropical seas to rainforests and flooded forests. The most impressive attraction, however, includes a 260-foot underwater tunnel and after that, the Shark Encounter exhibit displaying the largest collection of sharks in Europe. All in all the aquarium proudly displays more than 61 different animals from 15 species.
10. Georgia Aquarium, U.S.
Renowned as one of the biggest and most spectacular aquariums in the world, the Georgia Aquarium is home to more than 120,000 ocean creatures across 500 species. Open in 2005, a $250 million donation by Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus set the facility up on the fast track to aquatic success.
9. Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Japan
Whales, sharks, sardines and manta rays are the main attraction inside an acrylic glass panel that was once considered the largest of its kind in the world. The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan hosts more than 26,000 marine animals from 740 species split up among 70 salt and freshwater tanks.
8. Monterey Bay Aquarium, U.S.
Perched within a sparkling peninsula famous for its deep-sea trench and emerald coast known as the famed Big Sur, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is known as one of the most prominent and most amazing aquariums in the American continent.
7. uShaka Marine World, South Africa
Part aquarium, part theme park, the uShaka Marine World in South Africa certainly stands out from the rest. Among 32 sparkling tanks featuring a variety of unique marine life within a million gallons of water, sea horses, dolphins and sharks are what the spectators like to see. The aquarium is fashioned in the style of a shipwreck which adds a unique charm to the facility.
6. Shanghai Ocean Aquarium, Shanghai
Aquariums are the absolute closest we’ll ever get to experiencing life beneath the sea. One of the largest and most impressive in Asia is the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium that’s impressively divided into nine different zones.
5. L'Oceanographic, Spain
In a complex in this Spanish city known as the City of Arts and Sciences sits L’Oceanographic, a sweeping marine facility that houses the largest and most amazing aquariums in all of Europe. Here in Valencia, Spain, 1.9 million gallons of water pay homage to the habitation of 45,000 marine animals across 500 species.
4. The Southeast Asia Aquarium, Singapore
This famous facility opened in 2012 and is considered the second largest aquarium in the world. Located in Singapore, it is part of a Resort World Sentosa complex and holds a whopping 12 million gallons of water. The aquarium’s 27-foot-high windowpane in the Open Ocean section displays the second biggest of its kind in the world.
3. The Tropicarium Aquarium, Budapest
At the Tropicarium Budapest Aquarium visitors can delight in popular attractions such as the shark tank where you can roam through a 40-foot-long tunnel surrounded by swarming, hungry sharks. A main attraction is the ray touch tank where spectators can play with and touch the swimming rays. But don’t forget to miss the tropical rainforest exhibit! Here it rains all day in serene intervals.
2. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Aquarium, Zhuhai
Located at Chimelong International Ocean Resort in Zhuhai, the park is one of the largest marine-themed amusement parks in the work. Showcasing high-class thrill rides and a variety of rare animal exhibits, astounding theatrical performances, and numerous shopping and dining options, this is truly a top-notch place to visit.
1. Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, UAE
Imagine a large, suspended aquarium hosting one of the largest tanks of its kind in the world. Ascending 8.3 meters high and 32.88 meters wide, it certainly makes sense that one of the most prominent malls in the world would feature one of the grandest and most sought-after aquariums. The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo located on the bottom floor of the Dubai Mall in the UAE features a 2.5 million-gallon tank that is home to 33,000 marine creatures from 150 different species.
