Dachau concentration camp
A visit to Dachau on a European driving tour in 2014. Photos taken on an Olympus E1 SLR camera.
Walking Through Auschwitz | WARNING: Actual footage of entire camp
ATTENTION: I disabled comments due to the complete disrespect some people had towards the people who were murdered and suffered at Auschwitz. Also, filming and photographing is allowed throughout the camp except for the room of hair which I did not film out of respect for the people who suffered a great deal at this place. There are multiple signs showing no flash photography because this is not only disruptive and rude towards the people paying their respect but it also alters the items coloring over time. You can go to the website below and see it says on their website what is and isn't allowed to be filmed:

My regular vlogs are very happy and positive but this one is very different... I've always wanted to go visit auschwitz to see it for myself. I brought my camera with me so I could share this experience with people who wish to go see this place one day as well. Its a difficult thing to do but I believe it is necessary.

This is my personal impression, when last summer I've visited the camp near Munich. A sad part of our history on our planet that should never happen again.
Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial - Nie Wieder (Never Again)
***I apologize for the unfortunate clicking noises througout this video. I purchased a new wrist/neck strap and a hard piece of plastic was swinging back and forth as I recorded this video. PERHAPS TURN DOWN/OFF THE AUDIO. THERE IS NO COMMENTARY.
On March 22, 1933, a few weeks after Adolf Hitler had been appointed Reich Chancellor, a concentration camp for political prisoners was set up in Dachau. This camp served as a model for all later concentration camps and as a school of violence for the SS men under whose command it stood. In the twelve years of its existence over 200.000 persons from all over Europe were imprisoned here and in the numerous subsidary camps. 41.500 were murdered. On April 29 1945, American troops liberated the survivors.
The Memorial Site on the grounds of the former concentration camp was established in 1965 on the initiative of and in accordance with the plans of the surviving prisoners who had joined together to form the Comité International de Dachau. The Bavarian state government provided financial support. Between 1996 and 2003 a new exhibition on the history of the Dachau concentration camp was created, following the leitmotif of the Path of the Prisoners.
Germany: 'Arbeit macht frei' sign stolen from Dachau Nazi concentration camp

SOT, Karl Freller, Director of the Foundation of Bavarian Memorials (German): I was called by the head of the memorial about this appalling act. I am astonished that this happened and could have happened. It is a symbolically significant door, a gate which many detainees had to pass through and therefore it has an important part in their memory. This theft can only be driven by evil motives.

SOT, Karl Freller, Director of the Foundation of Bavarian Memorials (German): We have a surveillance, also at night, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. But as you see, when the criminals try really hard, they can still get there. That is why we will have to consider, together with the police, what else we could do.

The infamous “Arbeit Macht Frei” ('Work sets you free') sign went missing from the former Dachau concentration camp in Germany, Sunday.
Security officials noticed that the sign was missing from the camp's iron gate early Sunday. Memorial site officials had decided against installing CCTV at the former camp, since they did not want to give the facility the appearance of a maximum-security unit. However private security services are monitoring the site and whoever stole the 190cm by 94cm (75 by 37 inches) section, had to climb over another gate to get to it. The director of the memorial site has condemned the theft stating that the sign is symbolic of the former inmates’ ordeal.
Police have yet to find traces of the missing sign in the vicinity of the former camp and appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Over 40,000 prisoners died in Dachau, which was the first concentration camp set up the Nazis, in 1933.

Dachau nazi concentration camp 12
Beautiful Bavaria | Munich Germany
Country 12/195
Although my main focus of my trip to Germany was on Oktoberfest I still spared time to see the other sights Munich had to offer. I explored Marienplatz which was the center of Munich, did a bike tour around the city of Munich and into the English Gardens, and saw other historic churches and buildings. On a more somber not I went to the Dachau Concentration Camp. This was a very important part of my trip, and I was wary about wether or not to include the footage in the video. However, I found that it was important part of history to not forget.

Dachau: The first Nazi concentration camp
Dachau was the first Nazi concentration camp. Established in a village outside of Munich, the camp was used to silence any opponents to the Nazis.
The World Jewish Congress is in Munich and on an important visit to the Dachau camp today, together with Jewish leaders and special envoys and commissioners for combatting antisemitism. The urgency in countering antisemitism is more apparent than ever.

The liberation of concentration camps by the US Army at the end of WWII is an excellent entry point for US history teachers into the study of the Holocaust. This video interweaves liberators’ and Jewish survivors’ testimonies and other primary sources, highlighting the experiences of US soldiers upon entering the Nazi camps. The video helps you present their story to your students, as the witnesses relate to the stark difference between conventional warfare and the Holocaust, an unprecedented genocide. Great care has been taken not to include visually graphic photographs, making the video particularly suitable for middle and high school students.

German concentration camps. The mass gassing with cyanide story is a hoax. The only thing that got gassed with Zyklon B were the lice in sheets, blankets, clothes, towels and other linen.

Dayton Holocaust Resource Center: Charles Froug
Faces of the Holocaust - interviews with Dayton-area survivors, rescuers and liberators. Dr. Froug, who is Jewish, was a physician with the American army that liberated southern Germany. Unaware that death camps even existed, his unit stumbled upon Dachau. Dr. Froug remained there for several weeks, giving medical aid to the survivors. His description of what he found at Dachau is horrifying and quite graphic.

Camper van at former Nazi death camp
SEE MY MOTORHOME PAGE ON FACEBOOK :
Spending the night in my van at the site of a death camp which claimed at least 434,000 lives in 1942 may not be the first choice for most people, however for me as a camper van enthusiast and historian who is specialised in the second world war, then it is not a problem, particularly if I need to meet people there the following day.
As I explain in the film, I am not afraid of ghosts, indeed I am doing my best to keep the memory of the victims alive through my research, some of which you can see on my you tube channel.
Before anyone accuses me of a lack of respect, I am doing quite the opposite. I am ensuring that people learn about places like Bełżec.
The death camp at Bełżec operated from 16 March 1942 until the end of November of that year. The camp stopped then stopped taking in transports of people but a small group of prisoners were kept there to dig up and burn the bodies which had been buried there. There is more information on the holocaust of the Jewish population of the Lublin region on my channel should you be interested.
This is not the first time that I have spent the night in such a place. I slept next to the former SS barracks in the former concentration camp at Gross Rosen and that did not bother me either.
