Residents give Input on Indian Creek Plan
MARION, IA (CBS2/FOX28)--People came together this morning to discuss the impact of flooding in Marion. Members of the Indian Creek watershed management authority are looking for ways to reduce flood risk in the area. For some Marion residents Indian Creek is a gift from nature, but when it rains, it pours. Two years ago, we had higher levels of water in our area than we had had in the flood of 2008. So we've seen high levels of water, said Rick Sandstrom. He says they've seen those high levels for a while now from March to June. We can see that the balance isn't right. The water comes too fast and too often, he said. That's where discussions like this come in handy. Indian Creek Watershed Management Authority is engaged in a planning process to try and address to try and address, flooding, water quality and some other factors to protect our watershed, said Jennifer Fencl, Environmental Services Director for East Central Iowa Council of Governments. Their goal is to find ways to protect residents and the creek itself. The possible answer has various options. If we're willing to allow the water to spread out and inundate some areas and cause damage or if we want to invest in infiltration practices, said Fencl. Practices to help hold the water back, she said. Slow it down and not have it go so quickly through the stream channel, said Fencl, but it will take a collaborati

Railfanning The UP Clinton Sub at Indian Creek on 5-13-15
Railfanning the UP Clinton Sub at Indian Creek Nature Center, Cedar Rapids, IA on 5-13-15. On a warm, sunny 5-13-15 we headed down to Indian Creek for some evening railfanning. As soon as we got there, a headlight to the west of us was approaching quickly. And man, what a lashup. An EB UP manifest pulled by the following: an UP SD70M, an SD9043MAC, a GP15-1, an SD9043MAC, another SD9043MAC, AND a CSX SD40-2! Since it snuck up on us, I didn't have enough time to get my second camera rolling. But dang, that was awesome. Next up was a EB coal train with two ex-SP AC44CWs, one trailing, & one as the DPU. The rest of the trains were all flying wb Z-Trains. Enjoy! Other railfans: CNP204, Eastern Iowa Rail Productions, & upclintonsub. Notes: N/A. © CNSD75I Productions.

Creek Hiking at Sheepskin Hollow State Nature Preserve | Columbiana County, OH
Sheepskin Hollow State Nature Preserve is situated on the Ohio side of the Ohio-Pennsylvania border in Columbiana, OH, about 13 miles north of East Liverpool, OH, and 10 miles Southwest of Darlington, PA. Unlike many other State Nature Preserves in Ohio, Sheepskin Hollow has no official or marked trails. It is akin to a wilderness area more than it is a park. Its 468 acres are open to the public to explore. The highlights of the Preserve are the North Fork Little Beaver Creek and the deep hollows containing creek tributaries and surrounded by steep Appalachian Foothills on either side. The hollows are filled with rocky, wet, wild terrain, and pristine forests filled with an abundance of hemlocks.
The various hollows are accessible as offshoots from a now defunct railroad line. Getting to the hollows requires a steep climb from the railroad. After this, the hikes will consist of rock scrambles/and or creek hiking. The hike depicted in this video consists of a visit to a remote waterfall approximately 1 mile from the railroad, as detailed by Natural Ohio Adventures:
For more information about Sheepskin Hollow State Nature Preserve, visit the Ohio Department of Natural Resources site:
Since there are no marked trails, there is no proper trailhead for the hike depicted in this video. However, the approximate location of the railroad can be found here, via Google Maps:
Also see the description of the hike to the waterfalls in Sheepskin Hollow provided by Natural Ohio Adventures in the linked page, above.
