Indonesian Street Food Tour of Glodok (Chinatown) in Jakarta - DELICIOUS Indonesia Food!

Glodok is the Chinatown of Jakarta, and my wife and I decided to spend the day walking around Glodok and exploring some Indonesian street food throughout the day. At the end of the day, we also stopped by Fatahillah Square, with is an old Dutch square in colonial Jakarta, where you'll find some interesting buildings and some street food snacks as well.
Since we were staying at a hotel (here’s information on the hotel I stayed at: not too far from Glodok, we decided to beat the traffic and just walk over there. It didn’t take more than 15 minutes to walk, and soon we arrived in Jakarta’s Chinatown. Glodok is a very interesting area to walk around and explore. There are fresh markets and plenty of restaurants and food to choose from.
The Indonesian street food I tried on this tour was siomay, an Indonesian Chinese dish. From the back of a motorbike, I chose a few of the siomay dumplings he had steaming, and the cut them up and added some peanut sauce to the plate. The texture was a little mushy, but they were alright. Right opposite the siomay, the owner of an Indonesian vegetarian restaurant greeted me and asked if I might like to eat some of his vegetarian food. His vegetarian rendang was particularly good.
One of the most famous places to go in Glodok is Kopi Es Tak Kie, a legendary coffee shop. After wandering around a while we found it. I had a cup of coffee and also a plate of nasi campur from outside the shop.
We continued on our Indonesian street food tour throughout Glodok and I tried a sweet snack called kue ape, which is a green colored little pancake. Next, I had a variety of deep fried snacks including fried bananas, and fried breadfruit. They are definitely pretty greasy, but interesting to sample, and they are very popular street food snacks in Indonesia.
It probably wasn’t the greatest idea to walk, but we decided to walk over to Fatahillah Square. The traffic was pretty intense, but we made it. And along with checking out the old colonial buildings one of my main goals was to try kerak telor, which is a traditional Indonesian Betawi street food snack. Luckily I found it and it turned out to be a very interesting and amazing snack to watch being made!

Kopi Es Tak Kie - 10,000 IDR ($0.73)
Nasi campur - 35,000 IDR ($2.58)

U19 International Friendly Match: Indonesia 3-1 China
Setelah pada pertandingan terakhir berhasil mengalahkan Iran dengan skor 1-0, tim nasional Indonesia U-19 kali ini berhasil menggebuk tim kuat dari Asia Timur, yakni China, pada laga uji coba yang digelar di Stadion Gelora Bung Tomo, Surabaya, Kamis (17/10).
Tim asuhan Fakhri Husaini akan kembali menghadapi China pada laga uji coba kedua di Stadion Kapten I Wayan Dipta, Gianyar, Minggu (20/10/2019) sore.
Rangkaian uji coba ini digelar PSSI untuk menyiapkan Timnas U-19 yang akan menghadapi Kualifikasi Piala Asia U-19 pada November mendatang.

In 2016, PSSI woke up from adversity and continued to train to get up. The quality development and capacity building of Indonesian soccer's human resources have continued to be boosted, ranging from the number of young players, coaches, referees to other football management practitioners.
In 2017, PSSI also began to awaken women's soccer from sleep and continue to develop it. PSSI also encourages the development of youth soccer by creating continuity between the realm of amateur competition, youth competition, and elite competition in Indonesia.

National Monument:
One of a handful of public spaces in Jakarta, at the centre of Merdeka Square is Indonesia’s National Monument, a 132m tower built to commemorate the country’s struggle for independence.
Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia:
Some very fancy shopping malls where the air con is ICE COLD and a sure-fire way of keeping us there. We spent four hours looking at luxury clothing we couldn’t afford, drinking coffee and eating food.

Next Door Homestay:
Situated in the Parangtritis area, this lovely little homestay has to get a special mention as we spent 90% of our time here! Andre and his family were lovely and helped with everything whilst providing a friendly and familiar face to come home to. The intimate pool was just what we needed to get the Jakarta pollution off us.
The breakfast was 10/10 too and brought to our terrace everyday. Just perfect.
Water Palace:
After lolling around our homestay for too long we had to do something! We’d decided to skip Borobudur and Prambanan temples due to the sheer amount of numbers for sunrise they attract. Instead we walked around Yogyakarta’s shaded alleys and visited the Water Temple. If you do visit make sure you keep a sense of caution as scammers surround this area trying to tell you that the palace is closed/sell you other things.
The palace is very small but quaint. It’s 15,000 rupiah per person (less than £1) and fills up an hour of the day.

Suramadu Bridge
Perhaps more than its functionality, this bridge is appreciated for its architectural beauty and constructional feat. Suramadu Bridge, which is the longest in Southeast Asia by far, connects Surabaya with the island of Madura. Not only can you cross over to the previously inaccessible island in about 30 minutes, you’ll also get to enjoy the scenic journey.
House of Sampoerna
This museum packs together national history, local economy, and personal stories and presents its collection inside a heritage building that’s a landmark in itself. Cheng Hoo Mosque
Surabaya holds a huge Chinese population living and assimilating among locals. This cultural interaction begets unique customs and landmarks, including the Cheng Hoo Mosque, a stunning pagoda-style mosque with a very vivid oriental architecture and Muslim religious symbols. This mosque was built to honour the Chinese admiral who helped spread Islam in the country.
Sanggar Agung Temple
This temple, also known as Hong San Tan Temple, is eclectic in its style and function. As a house of worship for Buddhist, Tao, and Kong Hu Cu followers, this temple shows influences from Chinese, Javanese, Balinese, and Thai cultures in its architecture. The grand temple’s complex features a monumental statue of Guan Yin that’s 20 metres tall, supported by gigantic statues of dragons with the sea in the background.
Ampel Mosque
Established in 1421, this is the oldest mosque in East Java, built by the revered Sunan Ampel, who is one of the nine clerics credited for the expansion of Islam in Java and whose tomb lies in the very complex. Other than its own impressive architecture, the area around Ampel Mosque has also become an Arab District, lined up with Middle Eastern buildings, shops, and food.
Submarine Monument
A massive submarine in the middle of the city is indeed an unmissable odd sight that sparks curiosity. The Submarine Monument is an actual warcraft, sourced from Russia and used by the Indonesian navy shortly after independence. Now that it has retired, the submarine serves as a popular tourist attraction that tells stories about the nation’s maritime history.
Ria Kenjeran Beach
Faced with a sprawling and dynamic urban area like Surabaya, people can easily forget the city also has splendid natural beauty. As a coastal town, Surabaya has its share of idyllic beaches, including the popular and well-developed Ria Kenjeran half an hour away from the city centre. Besides the magnificent sunrise and sunset views, the beach area also has various entertainment, rides, facilities, and accommodation.
Heroes Monument
Due to its importance in the movement for independence, Surabaya is nicknamed the ‘City of Heroes’. Not much of the independence struggles can still be seen in the modern city, but the Heroes Monument is an unmissable landmark dedicated to the people who fought for the country. Tourists can also visit the 10 November Museum in the lower part of the monument, commemorating the Battle of Surabaya on 10th November 1945, which is still celebrated nationwide as the Day of Heroes.
Atom Market
Mega-malls and modern shopping centres are in Surabaya’s every corner, but Atom Market still holds a special place throughout the city’s history. Established in 1972, many locals and tourists still prefer this market to get cheap and locally made goods, from fashion to electronics. The market also serves as a large culinary centre where tourists can sample all kinds of traditional sweets, snacks, and meals.

Indonesian girl dies 'for want of money'
Indonesia's health ministry has urged all hospitals to treat poor patients in an emergency, even if they cannot afford the treatment.
The government action comes two weeks after a 10-month-old girl died in a hospital, and her parents say she was not treated because they were unable to pay in advance.
However, the hospital management says that staff continued treating the baby even as they kept asking the parents for money.
Indonesia has a medical insurance system for poor people, but many people are not registered and the records are outdated. So, it is standard hospital procedure to ask patients to pay upfront.

In this part I meet some quite amazing people in some very poor areas. Even though they live in these areas, they are among the most happy and smiling people I have ever met.
About me:
My name is Eivind, I am a thirty six year old Norwegian guy living in Oslo, Norway. I am quite new to the YouTuber travel vlog sphere, but hope that you find my videos cool, and as time pass by I hope you see my content getting better and better. My goal is trying to enlighten and brighten your day by giving you interesting videos about traveling, meeting people and eating food from all different kinds of cuisines. Another thing that I want is to break down barriers of travel and prejudices of foreign countries and cultures. My opinion is that most people and cultures are friendly, but unfortunately sometimes media gives a biased view.
Usually my travels goes to places that are a bit out of the beaten track, like smaller cities or just less known cities, where I explore the neighborhoods or head into the nature. If possible, I`ll bring my drone also, but this has become more difficult in recent years due to strict regulations. I will also try to make some videos about my home country Norway, one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
On my travels I like to connect with the local people. Usually I do this via Couchsurfing, either just by meeting up with people to explore together or by actually staying at their place. I also wander aimlessly around in places talking to random people.
I do host a lot of people in my place in Oslo, maybe someday it will be you.
One of my biggest passion in life is food. And when cooking and eating together with nice people it`s the best. I make some videos together with some of my guests, these are really fun to make and I also learn to make new dishes. Maybe you can come cook with me?
Another thing I try to is enlighten people about the environment, especially the plastic problem we have all over the world. In almost every country I go to there is garbage all over. I film it and put it in some videos here and there. As a tip for you, try to pick up one piece of plastic everyday, and of course, never throw any in the first place.

Bandung is one of the best places to go if you are looking for a side trip near Jakarta. Located high in the mountains, this city is literally cool. Bandung enjoys comfy cool year-round temperatures, verdant pine forests & scenic highland views. It is also the country’s outlet shopping capital. This city is a must-visit for art & nature lovers, foodies, and shopaholics looking for cheap bargains.
How to go — Bandung is 3 hours southeast of Jakarta by bus or train. The Jakartato Bandung train route is scenic. So, be sure not to miss it. You can also fly direct to Bandung-Husein Sastranegara Airport from Singapore (2 hours), Kuala Lumpur (2 hours), and Johor Bahru (2 hours). And domestic, from Bali (1.5 hours), Medan (2.5 hours), Yogyakarta (1 hour), Surabaya (2 hours). And smaller airports, including Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Bandar Lampung, Pontianak, Semarang, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Batam, or Solo.

While you’re in the city, explore the 18th-century royal complex, the Water Castle (Taman Sari), and beautiful Dutch-era colonial buildings.
How to go — Found in central Java, Yogyakarta is just hour east of Jakarta & 1.5 hours west of Bali by plane. Yogyakarta-Adisutjipto International Airport is the primary gateway to the city. It’s located in the city center while the temples are within an easy drive away.
You can fly directly from Singapore (2.5 hours) on AirAsia as well as major airports in the country including Jakarta (1 hour), Bali (1.5 hours), Medan (3 hours), Bandung(1 hour), Surabaya (Surabaya). 3. Mount Bromo
Take the ultimate selfie, at the top of an active volcano’s crater rim. Mount Bromo is an easy place to do it. A lot easier than Mount Rinjani since the actual trek to Mount Bromo’s crater rim only takes less than an hour.
How to go — Mount Bromo can be found in Central Java. The most popular way is to travel to Probolinggo by land from Surabaya, Banyuwangi, Yogyakarta, Jakarta or other cities on the island. Then, ride a bus or shuttle to Cemoro Lawang village, the main tourist area in Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. A jeep or motorcycle taxi (ojek) ride to the base of the summit takes less than 30 minutes. And, a 30-minute to 1-hour ascent on steep stairs, takes you to the crater rim. You can also reach Cemoro Lawang via Malang, located west of Mount Bromo. Although public transport is quite limited, this can be a good option if you’re headed from Yogyakarta. The way to Cemoro Lawang passes through the scenic village of Ngadas, Mount Bromo’s savannah, and the sea of sand.

Indonesia cuts off internet to Papua following protests - BBC News
Hundreds of protesters held a rally near the Indonesian presidential palace in Jakarta after numerous riots and demonstrations brought several Papuan cities to a standstill over recent days.
The two Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Papua, have seen numerous buildings being torched, including a jail and a market.
The protests are in response to claims of racism against Papuan students during Independence Day celebrations in the Javanese city of Surabaya.
The government has deployed more than 1000 additional soldiers and shut internet services in the region to restore security.
Indonesian president Joko Widodo has called for peace, adding that the government will try to look after the honour and welfare of all people in Papua and West Papua.

The company now mainly manages four basketball leagues: Developmental Basketball League (DBL, high school), Junior Basketball League (JRBL, junior high), National Basketball League Indonesia (NBL, professional men), and Women’s National Basketball League Indonesia (WNBL, professional women).
The company also manages and executes international events and teams, such as NBA official events and the Indonesia National Junior Basketball Team.

The junior high school competition was started in 2005, as a supporting competition for the high school league (DBL) in Surabaya. Beginning in 2012, the league was spun-off, rebranded as Junior Basketball League (JRBL), and expanded to other cities.
In 2014, JRBL is held in seven cities, in seven provinces in Indonesia. Over 6,600 students and officials participated, watched by over 185,000 spectators. In the future, the league will expand to even more cities and provinces, following the model of the high school league.

The Developmental Basketball League (DBL) was founded by Azrul Ananda in Surabaya in 2004. Beginning in 2008, the league expanded to other parts of the nation. In 2014, DBL is held in 25 cities, in 22 provinces in Indonesia.
Over 35,000 students and officials participate in DBL in 2014, watched by over 750,000 spectators. The league will continue to expand to other parts of Indonesia, and the number of spectators is predicted to exceed 1 million people per year in the next few years.

Creating New History
Following the success of NBL Indonesia, PT DBL Indonesia and Indonesian basketball federation collaborates to create the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) Indonesia. For the first time in four years, an elite league for women is created.
Started with only five teams, the league expanded to six teams in its second season, and will continue to attract more teams in the near future.
To give more exposure and prestige, the WNBL Indonesia season is played in conjunction of the NBL Indonesia. Playing as a curtain raiser or in between the men’s games.

A New Hope for Indonesia
In 2010, PT DBL Indonesia was asked to take over the country’s declining professional league, the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL). Azrul Ananda, PT DBL Indonesia’s director, became the commissioner of the league, and then worked with the teams to change the league to a more professional and sustainable operation.
The league was rebranded as National Basketball League (NBL) Indonesia. And immediately, the league gained back the trust and support of the fans. In 2011, the number of teams participating was increased from ten to 12.
In 2012, the competition have become more fierce, making NBL Indonesia as the most competitive professional league in the history of the country.
