Asan is a ceremonial, market and residential square in central Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It is one of the most well-known historical locations in the city and is famed for its bazaar, festival calendar and strategic location. Asan has been described as one of the fine Newar examples of a traditional Asian bazaar. The Tuladhar, Maharjan, Shrestha, Bajracharya and Shakya castes make up most of the population.

We’ve all probably had Sunil Dai’s lassi many times, and for good reason
The Lassi
Lassi is essentially a curd-based smoothie, which can also be prepared and mixed with all sorts of fruits and nuts. The one at Sunil Dai’s is pretty basic in terms of ingredients. But his is so velvety that it leaves behind a layer of creaminess on the insides of your mouth when you’re done with it.
Like most people here do, I go for the second round, too. I usually rush the first one, but for my second helping, I try to hold on to that smooth consistency of the lassi--a product properly mixed curd, milk and water, along with some sugar--inside my mouth. Along with that viscous, sweet lassi, there are soft, chewy raisins and solid, nutty cashews and almonds, and not to forget that extra creamy, extra sweet and super milky khuwa, which just makes the drink taste even milkier.
The nuts and khuwa float on top. Nibble on these treats, which rush into your mouth with every sip, and savour the milky goodness before gulping it all down. At the end, you’ll find yourself holding the cup upside down with your mouth wide open trying to suck out the last few drops--as I usually do. But you needn’t be embarrassed about your actions--since almost everyone ends up doing the same.
