Insa-dong Seoul Korea
Introduction
Insa-dong, located in the heart of the city, is an important place where old but precious and traditional goods are on display. There is one main road in Insa-dong with alleys on each side. Within these alleys are galleries and traditional restaurants, teahouses, and cafes.
The galleries are the heartbeat of Insa-dong. There are about 100 galleries in the area and you can see every example of traditional Korean fine art from paintings to sculptures. The most famous galleries are Hakgojae Gallery, which functions as the center of folk art, Gana Art Gallery, which promotes many promising artists, and Gana Art Center.
The teahouses and restaurants are the perfect complement to the galleries. At first they might be hard to find, but if you take the time to stroll around the twisting alleyways, the window shopping in itself can be very entertaining. The shops in Insa-dong are very popular among all age groups, because each one is unique.
Every Saturday from 14:00 to 22:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 22:00, the main street is blocked off from traffic and it becomes a cultural space. Stores set up booths outside and Korean candy merchants and fortune teller stalls can easily be found; there are traditional performances and exhibits as well. Insa-dong is especially popular among international tourists. This is where they can experience and see traditional Korean culture firsthand, and also purchase pieces of fine art. On the street you can eat Korean taffy and traditional pajeon (green onion pancake), and lose yourself in all the joyous festivities of the street.

Seoul Walk: Insadong (인사동), @Line 3 - Seoul, South Korea [4K]
Let's have a glimpse into the real Korea - in this must-visit spot for every tourist in Seoul: Insadong! From the best traditional souvenirs to authentic old and modern foods, paintings, masks and crafts - Insadong has it all and offers a great mix of new and old Korean influences.
The Insadong area is famous for its appeal to foreign tourists, as it boasts a large selection of shops selling everything traditional Korean, without feeling like a rip-off tourist trap as other places in the world.
Walking among the many Koreans dressing up in the traditional Korean Hanbok, you can find beautiful Korean scroll paintings, traditional Korean masks and yummy local tea blends. Also other stuffs that you might have grown fond of during your stay in Korea is available in these shops - local sweets, a huge selection of Korean Ginseng products and beautiful crafts - e.g. decor items or accessories. Especially the multi-level Ssamjigil craft shopping center offers 4 levels of shops and places for little snacks.
If your souvenir hunt is done you may also enjoy the wide variety of traditional restaurants, tea houses and cafés in this area. Prices are slightly higher, but quality, decoration and the great selection of different flavors make these restaurants still a favorite among locals. And of course for your small appetite, there is also great streetfood to be had. Various skewers, rice cakes, rice toffees, dragonbeard candy, hotteoks or greentea icecream, to name a few.

[인사동]Just feeling Insa-dong, Seoul, Korea
Located in the center of Seoul, Insa-dong was named after two Joseon towns whose names included the syllables ‘In’ from Gwaninbang of Hanseongbu (present-day Seoul) and ‘Sa’ from Daesadong.
As the Dohwaseo (Painting Bureau) was established in the area in the early Joseon period, it became the heart of Korea’s arts activities.
In the 1930s, many antique shops were established in the area, followed years later by numerous ateliers, antique furniture shops and Korean folk crafts shops in the 1980s, transforming it into a famous byword for Korean traditions and cultures.
Nowadays, traditional craft shops and tea shops exist alongside modern-style buildings in Insa-dong, which still preserves some historic traces of the old Korea.

Hyunmudo - Seonbeop Jayeonmu - Insa-dong, Seoul, Korea
We are based in Insa-dong, Seoul, Korea. (The centre is on Insa-dong 10-gil, a small lane just opposite Starbucks Coffee Shop in Insa-dong.) Korean traditional martial art.
Hyunmudo is a complete Korean traditional martial arts system based on the principles of nature and the human body. We are based in Seoul, South Korea. More info can be found here:
Free style fan demonstration in Hyunmudo is called Seonbeop Jayeonmu. Fans were used by Koreans in the past as one of the favoured means of self-defense, for their easy portability. When used effectively, fans can generate as much power as a sword, although the material used for the fans is mere bamboo and paper. The power, accumulated and concentrated with years of hard training, comes from the feet which guide and control the directions, extent, and speed of the moves.

[Secret Korea - Seoul] Ep. 18 Insa-dong / YTN (Yes! Top News)
There’s a joy in finding something special in common
while walking through an old street.
My name is Nichola Gwon and I am an artist in Seoul.
Whenever I want to enjoy a special moment in Seoul I head to Insa-dong.
It’s known as ‘Mary’s Alley’ to foreigners.
Seoul has a long history of tradition and heritage.
And the alleys of Insadong still treasure its sceneries of the past.
The alleys are Korean traditional culture streets
that have concentrations of antiques, old books, traditional teahouses and traditional craft stores.
As you walk through Insadong, you will discover a large building.
The building, Ssamzigil, is full of traditional crafts and props created by the local artists.
It’s popular place for who visit Insa-dong due to lots of attractions.
This art museum was once a traditional Hanok where royals resided a century ago.
Now, it serves as a complex culture space visited by many people.
I like to enjoy a relaxed moment with a cup of tea
while listening to the sounds of the wind chime.
Insa-dong’s alley leads to the different scenery.
It leads to a Hanok alley, Ikseon-dong.
Ikseon-dong is the oldest Hanok town in Seoul.
Small Hanoks here served as living spaces for commoners during the 1920s.
These Hanoks still have their old traces and remains even a century later.
Recently, the Hanoks have been transformed into unique cafes, galleries, and restaurants.
Remnants of Seoul’s past remain in the alleys.
As you turn the corner, these alleys make you question and anticipate,
‘What scenery would I discover next?’
The alleys of Insa-dong and Ikseon-dong,
where ordinariness and uniqueness coexist.

안국역 - Walking around Anguk Station, Seoul, Korea (Per Request)
Anguk Station is a station on the Seoul Subway Line 3 in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Anguk station is the subway station nearest to the Insadong and Samcheongdong districts, as well as the ancient royal residence of Unhyeongung.
In January 2013, the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, which operates this line, published free guidebooks in three languages: English, Japanese and Chinese (simplified and traditional), which features eight tours as well as recommendations for accommodations, restaurants and shopping centers. The tours are designed with different themes, e.g. Korean traditional culture, which goes from Jongno 3-ga Station to this station and Gyeongbokgung Station on line No 3 that showcases antique shops and art galleries of Insa-dong.
In March 2018, Anguk Station of Seoul Subway Line 3 has been transformed into a history of independence movement themes for the first time in Korea. Seoul City is the only one among 950 subway and urban railway stations nationwide to mark the 99 years of the March 1 Independence Movement theme history
The four-story platform section of Anguk Station will contain the achievements and quotations of 80 independence activists including Kim Gu, Ahn Jung-geun, Yoon Bong-gil, Yoo Gwan-sun and Lee Bong-chang. The second and third basement floors of this year will also be built with independence movement and temporary government as the theme of the exhibition and rest area.
