Willow River located in St Croix County, Wisconsin USA
The Willow River is a 61.1-mile-long (98.3 km) river in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, United States, and a tributary of the St. Croix River. Its source is in southern Polk County east of the village of Clear Lake. The river at one time flowed unobstructed into the lower St. Croix River in between Hudson and North Hudson (44°59′18″N 92°45′46″W). But a dam was built to block off its mouth, a narrow channel was cut above the dam to the St. Croix River, the channel was dammed, and a mill was built to exploit the head of water that the two dams created. Subsequently, the Willow River Power Co. built a hydroelectric facility to utilize the same head of water, but the head was substantially decreased when the United States built the Red Wing Dam 30 miles downstream on the Mississippi River.
The river winds back and forth with a slow flowage. In its upper reaches it flows through the Cylon Marsh State Wildlife Area. It passes south of Deer Park by about one mile. It then passes through New Richmond, Boardman, and Burkhardt. Near Burkhardt it enters Willow River State Park.
The river can be navigated north of the unincorporated community of Burkhardt. River access is available at New Richmond's Nature Center. Each spring rainbow and brook trout are stocked at various locations along the river.
Breaks Interstate Park Aerial Drone Footage
The park is located in two states, Virginia and Kentucky. It's nickname is The Grand Canyon Of The South, as the gorge is about 5 miles long and plunges almost 1,700 feet below the mountains. The view is breathtaking! I would have flown out further than 2,000 feet, but there is a strong risk of downdrafts in the canyon.

This video is an informational video made for my wife for her Geography class. Apparently, a lot of her kids think the origin of the St. Croix River is Lake Superior. This video shows the origins of the mighty St. Croix River, from it's very beginnings.

Taylors Falls is a city in Chisago County, Minnesota, United States, located at the junction of U.S. Route 8 and Minnesota State Highway 95. The population was 1011 at the 2005 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.0 square miles (10.4 km²), of which, 3.7 square miles (9.6 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (7.69%) is water.
Taylors Falls is located adjacent to St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin at the Dalles of the St. Croix River, an area of forested bluffs and high cliffs. The first interstate state park in the United States, aptly named Interstate Park, was jointly founded by the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin in 1895 and straddles the border of the two states immediately south of the city.(wikipedia)
The Drive-In Restaurant, located on Bench Street in Taylor's Falls, will be celebrating its 53rd anniversary this summer. The Drive-In nurtures fond memories of that golden era, with carhops, 50's music, root beer in frosted mugs, and good old-fashioned hamburgers.
When Allan Anderson opened his Drive-Inn on July 5, 1956, James Dean was starring in the 50's classic Rebel Without a Cause at the St. Croix Auditorium Theatre. A Drive-Inn restaurant was a new concept and the idea was intriguing for the Anderson's, who were intent on making it a family business.
When the Drive-Inn first opened, customers were not quite sure what to do! It wasn't long before they learned where to park their cars and how to order from the carhops. Inside workers poured the root beer into glass mugs while cooks fried the hamburgers. A small root beer cost 5¢, a large 10¢ and hamburgers were 25¢.
The large rotating root beer mug sign was installed in 1963. It was purchased from a Hastings Frostop Drive-In that had gone out of business. The giant classic rotating mug still greets guests today!
The Drive-In was closed for a year in 1987 and purchased by the sister and brother team of Gail and Wade Vitalis in 1988. This new family breathed life into the Drive-In, re-making it as The Drive-In Restaurant with a theme which reflected the 50's era. Customers were once again greeted by carhops wearing poodle skirts while 50s music played in the back ground. Guests could drink ice cold root beer from a frosty cold mug and get hand-packed burgers on fresh bakery buns.
In 1993, Wade and his wife, Carol Vitalis bought The Drive-In Restaurant and added an 18-hole adventure mini-golf course featuring waterfalls, ponds and challenging multi-level holes. It was named Adventure Falls Mini-Golf. A club house was added to the Adventure Falls mini-golf site. The buildings siding and interior was constructed entirely from recycled barn wood.
Wade and Carol Vitalis and their three kids still operate the family business in much the same fashion the Anderson family did in 1956. It is a very popular destination for families looking to eat great food, do some mini-golfing and enjoy the St. Croix River.
The greater than life American experience of eating in your car, being waited on by a car hop and drinking homemade root beer still lives on at the Drive-In Restaurant in Taylor's Falls. Our family invites your family to be a part of this history!(taylorsfalls)
