Interurban North Trail - King County, WA
The Interurban North Trail bicycling and walking trail in King County, WA.
Length: ~32 miles
Connects: Seattle to Everett via Shorline, Lynnwood, Martha Lake, Mountlake Terrace, and Edmonds.
Despite it not being an off-street path through most of Seattle, I started in the city core because Denny and Dexter is the first sign for the trail that I know of.
Follow the signs north for 32 miles to Everett Station, where you can hop on Sound Transit 512 back to downtown Seattle.
On a personal note, this is one of my least favorite King County trails. It's poorly marked for much of the length, has places that spit you out in a narrow bike lane on wide roads and sometimes on to sidewalks, and most of the scenery and surroundings are either soul-crushing suburbia or I-5.
Bellingham Washington Hiking Trails - The Amazing Stimpson Family Preserve East Of Bellingham WA
Bellingham Washington is fortunate to have many excellent hiking trails including the Stimpson Family Nature Preserve. On the Stimpson hiking trail you will find a combination of wetlands, beaver ponds and old growth forests that are unique even for a place like Bellingham, what's more it's only about 6 miles from downtown Bellingham.
Much of the Stimpson Preserve trail is hiking through the fern covered forest under a canopy of trees but there are viewing points for the large glacier carved wetland lakes/ponds. These secluded wetlands don't go unused. They attract a large variety of wildlife including beavers, otters, ducks, geese, and an assortment of usual forest creatures like Raccoons, Deer, Lynx Cats, and maybe a coyote or two.
The Stimpson Family preserve was made possible in 2003 due to a generous land gift from the Stimpson family. The combination of the Stimpson Family lands with other conservation lands now makes the park about 350 acres.
To get to the Stimpson Family Nature Preserve travel west on Lakeway Drive and turn right on Austin rd which becomes Lake Louise Drive. The Preserve parking/staging lot is about 6 miles from downtown Bellingham near Sudden Valley. Other nearby trails include the Lookout Mountain Trail about a mile or so further down Lake Louise Rd. And the Hertz lakeside trail on Northshore Drive on the other side of the lake.

IN BELLINGHAM - Walking History Tour
Deb visits with Katie Franks and introduces us to The Walking History Tours which were created to provide folks with an interesting and informative street tour of Bellingham's fascinating historic buildings and sites. The tours are self guided using a booklet, cell phone or tablet outside and can even be taken while at home using a desktop or laptop computer.
The tours were created by the Community Development Division of the City's Planning Department. They are visual, fun and informative.

1934 to 1957, Bellingham WA, 16mm Film Archive, 926 16th St
There are 17 reels of film from this archive depicting Bellingham Washington and surrounds over a period of about 23 years that starts as near as I can tell in 1934 and ends in 1957.
There are 3 parades in old Bellingham as well as city streets, an airfield, an airport, boating and some really great old cars as well as some pretty cool clips of good folks living life in the past. You will also see what I think is a damn being built and although I am fairly sure it is not in the Bellingham area or even in the State I left it in because it is interesting. Maybe someone can let us know where it is.
The family lived at 926 16th Street in Bellingham right above Lowell Elementary School on 15th Street. I spent quite some time trying and eventually finding the house using Google Earth as it appears many times throughout the film as does other houses in the neighborhood. I left much of this in because if I lived there I would wish to see the homes and neighbors as they were 80 years ago. There used to be a trolley car that ran on that street.
I also left in clips of some places that I could not identify because I am not sure these clips are not relevant to the area or not.
As a last note I would tell you this video contains both black and white as well as very early color film. Unfortunately much of the color has deteriorated and is not quite right. Adjustments were made and there was some improvement.

Lake Padden Park in Bellingham, WA, USA
Trip to Lake Padden Park in Bellingham, Washington, United States on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. The park is a popular tourist destination that features numerous picnic areas and playgrounds. Many trails are located around the lake and the surrounding forest area that are used for hiking and biking. A public golf course is located along the eastern shore. A 1000-foot ridge separates the lake from I-5 (Interstate 5 highway) to the south.
The park entrances on the north provide easy drive-up access to playgrounds, a golf course, horse trails, picnic pavilions, swimming and fishing beaches, grass lawns, a boat launch dock, tennis courts, ball fields, trailheads as well as a tiny fishing dock. The 2.6-mile loop around Lake Padden provides a nice forest experience sputtered with occasional rock outcrops coupled with beautiful lakeside views. 1697 Pennypack Creek Bridge - America's Oldest Bridge - Dec 4, 2015
Built 1697. Roadbed prepared for turnpike 1803. Iron tie bars installed above center arch on both up&downstream sides by 1860. Bridge widened on downstream side 1893. Stone parapets on both sides removed and replaced with overhanging steel and concrete sidewalks and steel railings 1950. 12 thick concrete layer applied to underside of arches on upstream side about 1950.

Downingtown Trestle Bridge pt 1
Some friends and I explore the abandoned Downingtown Trestle Bridge. Also known as High Bridge by most of the locals, Trestle Bridge was built as a train bridge in 1901 and was abandoned in the 1980's.
Throughout its history there have been many recorded deaths associated with the bridge including a suicide back in the 60's.
Englishman in Bellingham, WA - America - My thoughts
I am from the UK and would like to talk to you about my two and a half month trip to Bellingham in the United States in 2016 and what cultural differences I observed between there and my home country. Obviously even within the same country, different regions will have their differences which means that what I discovered about Bellingham may be different to what I may notice if I went to California, for example. Also, my perspective of a place may be different to someone else's perspective of that same place. Having said that, I am confident that my experience in Bellingham will give you some idea of the culture of the US in general as some of the things I mention are said to be the same nationwide.
Some of the differences between the two cultures were more different to how I expected. When I first arrived in America, I most certainly didn't feel at home here and found the vibe in some ways very alien to what I'm used to, even more different to some of the countries nearer to home which one would expect to be vastly different. However, I eventually get used to it and ended up enjoying the experience.
