In this video I take one of Europe’s forgotten trains - the Enterprise. This is the service connecting the two Irish capitals, Dublin in the Republic with Belfast in Northern Ireland. The journey takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes on the fastest weekday services.
This is an international train, as Northern Ireland is part of the UK. The open and invisible border between the two means our journey is seamless and easy, with no passport or customs checks needed.
First Plus - now seemingly also branded Enterprise Plus - is very comfortable indeed and is well patronised. In fact, on this trip there were a number of senior MLAs (members of Northern Ireland’s devolved Parliament) on board, though they aren’t pictured! One of the reasons this train feels roomy and comfortable is the fact that Irish trains run on a broader gauge - rails are five feet apart as opposed to European gauge used in Britain of four feet eight and a half inches.
Autumn and winter aren’t the best for filming - lots of reflections and it being dark outside made for a fair amount of unusable footage....argh.
For those of you who like to keep track of this sort of thing, yep - I took this journey immediately after my Newquay to Dublin flight with Aer Lingus!

Scenic Train Rides Across Irish Countryside on Irish Rail
During my 2 week visit to Ireland, we took Irish Rail from Dublin to Cork, Cork to Killarney, and Killarney to Galway. Along the way, we saw the beautiful (green) Irish countryside. Irish Rail is a great way to get around Ireland and to see its rural areas. Very enjoyable!

Dublin to Cork: CITYGOLD Seat Review, Mark IV Train.
Yesterday I filmed Dublin to Cork on the Mark IV train in First Class to see if the ticket price is worth the money. You can also buy a standard class ticket from the ticket office and then upgrade on the train for 25.00 Euro. This is a short review of the seat. There is a trolley service provided in 1st class and you can also purchase food and drink from the buffet car but it was closed since it was an early morning train. I have another review coming in about 3 weeks time of the standard class seat where I did purchase food and drink from the trolley service. To see what I though of 1st class watch the end of the video where I say if its worth the money. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

Europe 2019 (Pt. 65) - Irish Rail Train - Dublin, Ireland to Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK)
August 12, 2019 - I love European inter-city trains, so much so that I always have to do it at least once every time I visit this continent. Today I am traveling 2h15 north from Dublin, Ireland, to Belfast, Northern Ireland - aka the UK.
It's a gorgeous trip that is very much along the coast of the Irish Sea for the first hour, with a few stops along the way in mid-sized cities like Drogheda and Dundalk. While this trip is normally fully handled by a train, we were forced to exchange onto a bus for the final part of the journey from Newry to Belfast, just after crossing the international border.
It'll be interesting to see how this border is dealt with in the future, if this whole Brexit thing comes to pass on October 31. We shall see. Until then, enjoy the beautiful Irish countryside in both nations that find themselves on the Isle of Ireland!

Irish Rail (IE) Dublin Area Rapid Transit DART September 2014
This video shows the four classes of DART trains in operation in downtown Dublin and along the cliffs of Dublin Bay between Dalkey & Killiney in September 2014. The railway is 5 foot 3 inch gauge (Irish standard gauge) with 1500V DC overhead wires.
The 8100 class are two car EMUs comprising a driving power car and a driving trailer. The 8500, 8510 & 8520 classes are 4 car units with the middle two cars being power cars. Only the 8520 class is air-conditioned. All four classes are seen in action together with video shot inside and from the trains.

Ireland: At Athenry station (in western Ireland, near Galway) an Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail Class 201 diesel locomotive (no.219) departs on the 1805 Galway to Dublin (Heuston) train. This scene is now history as all scheduled services on this route are worked by diesel multiple unit railcars. Recorded 12th May 2004.

Iarnród Éireann (English: Irish Rail) is the national railway system
operator of Ireland. Established on 2 February 1987, it is a subsidiary of Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ). It operates all internal intercity, commuter and freight railway services in the Republic of Ireland, and, jointly with Northern Ireland Railways, the Enterprise service between Dublin and Belfast. In 2009, Iarnród Éireann carried 38.8 million passengers, down from 43.3 million in 2008.
At the time of its establishment Iarnród Éireann referred to itself as Irish Rail, and introduced the four rails IR logo. The company gradually brought the Irish form of its name to the fore, ultimately introducing IÉ corporate branding and logo in 1994. The Irish word iarnród (alternately rendered bóthar iarainn) translates into English as iron road, or railway. While the name Irish Rail did not appear in that logo, it remained part of the official company name (Iarnród Éireann – Irish Rail) and reappeared in the new bi-lingual logo introduced in 2013.

The Iarnród Éireann (IE) 201 Class locomotives are the newest and most powerful diesel locomotives operating in Ireland, and were built between 1994 and 1995 by General Motors. They are model type JT42HCW, fitted with an EMD 12-710G3B engine of 3200 hp, weigh 108.862 tonnes and have a maximum speed of 164 km/h (102 mph). A freight version, the EMD Series 66, with the same engine is used on privately operated European mainline freight duties.
By the early 1990s, the locomotives operating passenger services in Ireland were becoming increasingly obsolete, with the newest type in service being the 071 Class introduced in 1976. The economic boom in Ireland in the mid-1990s allowed Iarnród Éireann to begin significant investment in the infrastructure of the railways, which began with an order for 32 brand new express locomotives from GM-EMD. Northern Ireland Railways also purchased two. The first were delivered in 1994, with deliveries continuing until 1995.
To allow clearance tests and driver training to commence in advance of the delivery of the main order of 201s, it was decided to transport the first locomotive, number 201, to Dublin by air. An Antonov An-124 was used to transport the locomotive from London, Ontario to Dublin Airport, arriving on 9 June 1994. The first light-engine test run operated from Inchicore works to Kildare on the 14th. Unfortunately, the locomotives have had a chequered service history.

Athenry is a town in County Galway, Ireland. It lies 25 kilometres (16 mi) east of Galway city, and one of the attractions of the town is its medieval castle. The town is also well known by virtue of the song The Fields of Athenry.
Its name derives from the ford ('Áth') crossing the river Clarin just east of the settlement. Because three kingdoms met at that point, it was called 'Áth na Ríogh', or 'the Ford of the Kings'.
The earliest remaining building in the town is Athenry Castle which was built sometime before 1240 by Meyler de Bermingham. In 1241, the Dominican Abbey was founded, a major institution.
