Ischia Walking Tour Part 2: Beaches of Ischia
This walk begins at San Pietro Beach and continues along the shoreline through Fisherman's Beach, and La Mandra Beach. At La Mandra beach you'll have a great view of Castello Aragonese. The walk continues through Ischia Ponte (Borgo di Celsa) and ends at Piazzale Aragonese. The walk continues in Part 3 with a tour of Castello Aragonese. Thanks for watching!
I use my phone as a video monitor while I walk and while walking on San Pieteo beach I viewed a text message and it caused and error on my Gopro and I lost the last 5 minutes of walking along the beach.

Ischia Island, Italy, History & Tourism
Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is almost entirely mountainous; the highest peak is Mount Epomeo, at 788 metres. The town is divided in two. Ischia Porto is the harbor district and commercial center of the island. and Ischia Ponte, the historic quarter, with its ancient castle and its stone streets. It is the largest of the three islands off the coast of Naples, (Procida, Capri and Ischia).
LOCATION
It lies at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, about 30 kilometres from the city of Naples. It measures approximately 10 km east to west and 7 km north to south and has about 34 km of coastline.
POPULATION
The island is very densely populated, with 60,000 residents. More than 1,300 inhabitants per square km. And every year Up to 6 million tourists visit to the island for its volcanic thermal spas and as well for its beaches and food.
TOURISM
Ischia's main industry is tourism. Tourists eager to enjoy the fruits of the island's natural volcanic activity, its hot springs, and its volcanic mud. Most visitors head straight for the north-coast towns of Ischia Porto, Ischia Ponte, Forio and Lacco Ameno. Of these, Ischia Porto boasts the best bars, while Forio and Lacco Ameno the prettiest spas and gardens. Every summer Italian families flock to Ischia's beaches in their thousands. Ischia a popular destination for German tourists.
HOW TO GO
The island is easily reached by ferries and hydrofoils from Naples.
HISTORY
Ischia is part of a large volcanic area that was very active in the distant past, and its rocks and mountains bear witness to their volcanic formation. In the eighth century BC, Ischia was colonised by the Greeks, and belonged for a time to Gerone of Syracuse (Siracusa), who built a fortress on the spot of the present Castello Aragonese. Repeated earthquakes and eruptions finally caused the Greek colonists to leave the island. In Roman times, the island belonged to the Emperor Augustus, who gave it to the Neapolitans in return for Capri. Earthquakes have been more common in recent centuries, and a large earthquake in 1883 destroyed many of the island's historic buildings.

WHAT TO DO IN ISCHIA, ITALY // Best things to do on Ischia Island
This is your Ischia travel guide with what to do in Ischia, Italy!
WATCH: What to eat while on Ischia
We've spent a few weeks over a couple of trips to Ischia, read all the blogs, bought some guide books, (DEFINITELY buying the guidebook with the bus route map in it when you arrive), and learned a lot from trial and error and talking to locals. That's how we came up with the best things to do on the island of Ischia.
We've gone during the off-season and at the end of high season. This video is from the beginning of September. I would even suggest going in mid-September when everything seems to still be open, weather is great, and you'll have a bit fewer tourists. August is a tough month because, in Italy, it's when shops shut-down for the Italians to take a vacation. I'd avoid Italy in August as a general rule.
**Things to do in Ischia, Italy**
????Explore nature
????Visit wineries for wine-tastings (or pre-book for vineyard tours)
♨️Relax in a terme
????♀️Swim in the sea
????️Take a day trip to another island or to Sorrento (we love Sorrento)
????Book a day tour on the island for a fully guided day with experiences of your choice
????Wander the little towns to eat, drink, and shop

Places to see in ( Isola d'Ischia - Italy ) Forio
Places to see in ( Isola d'Ischia - Italy ) Forio
Forio is a town and comune of c. 17,000 inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Naples, southern Italy, situated on the island of Ischia. Its territory includes the town of Panza, the only frazione of Forio and of the island of Ischia.
Panza has always been an independent village since the 16th century when a first governmental organization was introduced on the island. There are numerous coastal watchtowers, built from the Middle Ages against Saracen and African pirates raids.
In the 1975 the inhabitants of Panza tried to become an independent comune but the referendum, claimed by the inhabitants of Forio, was denied by the Campania's Regional Government.

Places to see in ( Isola d'Ischia - Italy )
Places to see in ( Isola d'Ischia - Italy )
Ischia is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples, Italy. It's known for its mineral-rich thermal waters. Hot springs bubble up at Maronti Beach, in the south. East, Roman remains lie beneath the sea floor at Cartaromana Beach. The beach has views of medieval Aragonese Castle, linked to Ischia by a stone bridge. Nearby, 18th-century Palazzo dell’Orologio houses the Sea Museum, devoted to Ischia’s fishing tradition.
Isola d'Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It lies at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the city of Naples. It is the largest of the Phlegrean Islands. Roughly trapezoidal, it measures approximately 10 km (6 miles) east to west and 7 km (4 miles) north to south and has about 34 km (21 miles) of coastline and a surface area of 46.3 square kilometres (17.9 sq mi). It is almost entirely mountainous; the highest peak is Mount Epomeo, at 788 metres (2,585 feet). The island is very densely populated, with 60,000 residents (more than 1,300 inhabitants per square km).
Ischia is the name of the main comune of the island. The other comuni of the island are Barano d'Ischia, Casamicciola Terme, Forio, Lacco Ameno, and Serrara Fontana. Ischia's main industry is tourism, centering on thermal spas that cater mostly to European (especially German) and Asian tourists eager to enjoy the fruits of the island's natural volcanic activity, its hot springs, and its volcanic mud.
The Aragonese Castle (Castello Aragonese, Ischia Ponte) was built on a rock near the island in 474 BC, by Hiero I of Syracuse. At the same time, two towers were built to control enemy fleets' movements. The rock was then occupied by Parthenopeans (the ancient inhabitants of Naples). In 326 BC the fortress was captured by Romans, and then again by the Parthenopeans.
The gardens, located in Forio-San Francesco, were originally the property of English composer William Walton. Walton lived in the villa next to the gardens with his Argentinian wife Susana. When the composer arrived on the island in 1946, he immediately called Russell Page from England to lay out the garden. Wonderful tropical and Mediterranean plants were planted and some have now reached amazing proportions. The gardens include wonderful views over the city and harbour of Forio. A museum dedicated to the life and work of William Walton now comprises part of the garden complex. There's also a recital room where renowned musical artists perform on a regular schedule.
A botanical garden, located in Forio-Citara Bay, is the result of 50 years of the dedicated work of Captain Giuseppe D'Ambra, the owner of the Villa. Giardini Ravino is a botanical garden with one of the richest collection of cacti and succulents cultivated outdoors in Europe. Giardini Ravino has been the subject of an award from the OPE (European Parliamentary Observatory) for the most ecofriendly property in South Italy.
Villa La Colombaia is located in Lacco Ameno and Forio territories. Surrounded by a park, the villa (called The Dovecote) was made by Luigi Patalano, a famous local socialist and journalist. It is now the seat of a cultural institution and museum dedicated to Luchino Visconti.

Ischia is off the coast of Naples, Italy, when we visited in March, it was just before the tourist season started so we had a lot of calm adventures! It is a favorite vacation destination for the Italians and Germans. You will likely find more of them here than Capri, but don't get me wrong, Capri is beautiful! But Ischia feels more real and is so stunning that we hope to make a return trip to explore it even more. It's super simple to get there--just a ferry trip from Naples. I highly suggest a few days on the island as an escape from the city life!

In this video we are wandering around in the south part of this beautiful island. To get to Ischia you basically need to fly to Naples. That's the closest airport anyway. It's quite easy to get to Ischia from Naples Molo Beverello. From the airport you can get on a bus (€5) to the port. I'd recommend to buy ferry tickets online in advance.
I've used but there are more options out there. Prices are pretty much the same. (€40/person return, 2018)
After you purchase your ticket they send an email confirmation which you have to print out. With that conf. you can collect your tickets at the port. Each ferry company has its own stall next to each other. It says in the confirmation that you have to be there 1 hour before the ferry leaves but no one asked us anything, could have got there just 10 mins before departure.
It takes about 1 hour to get to Casamicciola Terme, Ischia. From there (2mins from the port) you can catch a bus (they run till late night) for about €2 (You can buy tickets from the driver). It takes about 30-40mins to get to the south part of the island where Panza and Sant'Angelo are. It's truly a beautiful island and there are many many things to do.
I've downloaded an App (Ischia Island Travel Guide) which helped me a lot to get around and search for things to do.
