4K UHD Ferry Ride - Bainbridge Island WA - Seattle Day Trip - Kitsap Peninsula
Drive on to the Bainbridge Island ferry from the Colman dock terminal at the downtown Seattle waterfront. We take a ride aboard the Washington State Ferry System. This is the most popular ferry route in the western United States. Bainbridge locals refer to the ferry as 'the boat' and thousands of passengers walk/bike/drive aboard to commute to Seattle daily.
The regular ferry was out of service on the day we traveled. This smaller boat is the WSF M/V Walla Walla. It was constructed in 1973 and rebuilt in 2003. It is a Jumbo class ferry that regularly serves the Seattle to Bremerton route. It can carry 188 vehicles and 2,000 passengers.
The Seattle terminal is also in the process of being rebuilt and much construction can be seen from the ferry waiting area.

Macy's loads barges for NYC July 4th fireworks
(28 Jun 2019) Preparations for the nation's largest Independence Day celebration are taking shape in New York City.
Pyrotechnic experts started loading barges Friday with over 70 thousand fireworks for the 43rd annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show.
This years colorful patriotic display will light up the New York City skyline near the Brooklyn Bridge.
There are four barges in the Macy's show this year in addition to the sixteen hundred foot wide Brooklyn Bridge. So there are about seven containers over fourteen thousand pounds of fireworks coming out of each container, Gary Souza, the show designer said.
Choreographing a show of this size requires a bit of imagination.
So we'll find some really cool fireworks. We'll listen to the music. Listen as they record the music and put it into a track and then we sort of feel the music. It comes out as a color, maybe a noise, an effect, a swirl, a twirling, Souza added.
In addition to lighting up the sky, there will be cascading colors falling from the Brooklyn Bridge.
And so really there's over 25 different types of colors that you're going to see in the pyrotechnics and a lot of them you know might be some turquoises and teals and fuchsias, the shows executive producer Susan Tercero said.
The barges will be floating on the East River just south of their positioned last year.
This year creatively we really wanted to bring the show back to the Brooklyn Bridge because we hadn't been there since 2014, Tercero said. It was really a moment for us to have a different show for not only the audience that's there live and in person in New York City but across the country.
Look for pulsating lights, dragons, smiling faces, and dancing snakes along with a new image of a howling wolf Souza said.
So they're lowering these fireworks down into the mortar. Fixing a electronic match that will run through wires 15 miles of wire running around all these areas connecting these fireworks running them back to 14 different computer systems. That computer system will send out a signal that is precisely synchronized to the music launching the effects and synchronizing to the score, Souza said.
It takes a team of over fifty people twelve days to assemble the 25 minute fireworks show, but planning takes over a year.
