Exploring SECRET islands in the Florida Keys | The Content Islands
The Content Islands in the Florida Keys are a secluded paradise on earth. The islands located in the lower keys out on the edge of the gulf can hold some of the most beautiful views you have ever seen. The super shallow waters make it a bit difficult to gain access, so you must be aware of the tides at all times. Plus, in this episode we have MAILTIME! We open fan mail from our YouTube family and a few packages that we got for our self.

Key West Holiday Weekend
Key West is a very special place. Located in the southern most point in the Continental United States. This island boasts a deep water port for cruise ships and an International Airport. Located just 90 miles from Cuba in the Caribbean Sea there are many water related activities to enjoy while you are staying in the Florida Keys. Chartering a boat to go fishing and taking the Fury Sunset cruise are a good value for you money. Boat and Jet ski rentals are an option. What are some of the things you like to do when you visit Key West?
Key West Charter Boat Fishing
We took a trip down to Key West. While we were there we climbed aboard the Salty Goat Fishing charter boat. Although we didn't have the most successful day of fishing (I believe due to a gentleman bringing a Banana on the boat) we still had a great time! Beverly and I only caught a couple non-keeper fish so we went on our merry way after the day was done. We got a tan and saw the beautiful Tarpon feeding dockside. After the boat we went to Dante's for a snack and then back to our Hostel the NYAH. Look out for more videos from our trip to come!

01.07.KurpeDiem | Snorkeling in Key West, Florida
KurpeDiem.com
Season 1 Episode 7
Key West is home to the second largest reef system in the world, and visitors have the option to join a group snorkel tour, take a private tour or charter a boat and explore the waters on their own.
On this episode of KurpeDiem, we explore two different options for snorkeling in Key West, including a Catamaran tour that stops at two different points on the reef in the Gulf of Mexico, and a private boat trip with our friends snorkeling out in the Atlantic. We encounter a variety of tropical fish, Barracuda, Grouper, Lobster, Queen Conch and many more sea creatures.
Wisteria Island: Hell or Paradise?
Island Hopping Is A Must In Fort Myers Beach
Unlike the gridlocked hustle of sister cities Tampa and Miami, Fort Myers Beach is the gem on the Gulf that still has the magic of a Florida long forgotten elsewhere. It's the kind of view you're convinced you need a passport to see until the windows of the car roll down crossing over the Matanzas Pass Bridge onto Estero Blvd. In the mid-morning sun, the salted fresh scent wakes you up to the kind of American island you really can still find.
Here on Fort Myers Beach on Estero Island in Southwest Florida, there are as many families in the seven-mile surf as there are couples, newlyweds to retirees. We spent a long weekend at the Pink Shell Resort in September 2019, and planned your perfect day in Fort Myers at the best beaches and locations we could fit into a long weekend. There are always things to do here for day trips on the surrounding islands of Sanibel Island and Captiva Island, click here to jump to digest below.
Island hopping, shelling, and eco-tours
You're here in Florida, grab that lovely continental Pink Shell Resort breakfast and get outside. If you love deep sea fishing, book one of the local fishing charters in town to catch your own dinner. Not in the mood to fish? Book a trip with EcoVenture Florida where Captain Matt Hetrick and First Mate Lauren will guide you through a true island hopping adventure. We coasted around the famous Sanibel Lighthouse and anchored at our own private little beach for shelling on the gorgeous Costa Cayo. The seashells are shades of reds and pinks, and some are as big as your face.
If you thought you needed to leave America to find white sand beaches and clear crystal water year-round, it's all right here in the United States' coastline on the Gulf of Mexico. We saw dolphins, manatees, fevers of rays, and one incredible sea turtle in our time with Captain Matt, but he asked me to say that seeing all those in one day is incredibly lucky. Ol' Captain Matt is a modest guy.
Water sports, parasailing, and paddle boarding
If you're not in the mood for a boat ride, head out to the Pink Shell's beach resort zone where you can start your morning ocean kayaking or paddle boarding in the gentle surf. The serene view from the room each morning is all the convincing you need to feel the mild saltwater on your toes. Take a short waverunner course and grab the jet ski views of the boardwalk from the ocean. Bike around Lovers Key State Park, the one place every guest at the resort raved about. We didn't get to make it here, but learned it's a popular spot for lovers of all ages to take sweet photos.
Downtown Fort Myers
The Edison & Ford Winter Estates are a must-see for any kind of traveler, particularly those botanical garden lovers! These vacation homes of first Thomas Edison's family, followed by Henry Ford's family later, are preserved with the original knickknacks and science center, including the working laboratory. Mina Edison is responsible for the exotic and blossoming flora on the estates and she is the true patron saint of Fort Myers. The history of the city, once a popular cattlemen stop, begins with the Edisons arriving and rebuilding the dock. The Royal Palms lining the Edison's estate roads are just one of the legacies left behind.
Fort Myers & Sanibel Island
If you're looking to escape somewhere gorgeously serene with more activities than you could possibly fit into one week, Fort Myers Beach is the spot for you. This barrier island gem is budget-friendly, pet-friendly, and impossibly clean, a nod to the high eco-standards Lee County holds itself to. The next time you want to escape somewhere south, just remember that you need to go as far as Key West to find white sand perfection. Fort Myers Beach is Florida's Florida, the kind you're looking for.

???? KEY WEST Florida's SECRET Beach - Marvin Key
Key West has a SECRET BEACH (Marvin Key) that only the locals know about and its one of my favorite and most beautiful beaches. Key West has many beaches (we call them sand bars) and all of the best ones are located off of the island of Key West. This video takes you to one of the best, Marvin Key. It’s a secret because it only appears on a mid or low tide. When the tide is high, the beach completely disappears and unless you’re a local you’ll never find it.
This video starts out by taking a drone video of the Key West Salt Life Boat (Everglades 243) as it skims through Jew Fish Basin. Then you get more drone views of Marvin Key and what we call the back side of Marvin, which is shown in the thumbnail.
Your best bet to get out to this reef is first, make friends with a local with a boat or book a charter to take you out there. The charter is worth it as the sand bars are the best part of Key West and often times, most tourist never see this beautiful beach.

The Key West Express is the best way to travel to Key West. You could drive. You could fly. You could take a boat. But... unless you live in South Florida, the drive can be long and tiresome. Flying can be quick, but Key West isn't exactly a top aviation hub. Getting flights to and from Key West can be expensive and there's always a layover some place. Boating to Key West sounds nice but you don't know anyone with a boat and wouldn't it take a long time? Prepare to raise anchor, because I'm about to tell you the best way to get to Key West...and it's by boat.
If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time you know I'm a big fan of the Key West Express. The Key West Express is the high speed ferry boat that travels between Fort Myers and Key West Florida. They also leave out of Marco Island Florida. The boat pulls out of port around 8:30am and ties up in Key West around 11am. A fun 3 1/2 hours later and you're walking down Duval looking for a cold rum drink.

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.
MEET US!
Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.
When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.
Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.
I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!
Cheers!

Visiting Key West Florida Vacation Pre- 50th Birthday Beach Trip for Farm Girl.

Heading to the Florida Keys? Looking for an attractions guide? This is a must watch video for a glimpse of the town, beaches and Fort Taylor!
For scooters, check out :
Farm Girl and Exoman spent some days in Ernest Hemingway's old town of Key West Florida. Farm Girl loved that this small island town was laid back packed with things to do & see and places to visit, from the beautiful fortress & beaches of Fort Zachary Taylor to the jet ski and scooter rentals off US hwy 1. The magic started to happen the moment the plane landed at the Key West Airport. Farm Girl and Exoman were picked up by Tommy Lee from Sunshine Scooter Rentals and taken to the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel to drop off the baggage. From there they were taken 5 minutes down the road to the rental office where they rented scooters and within minutes were breezing all over the Island. No taxis needed the whole time! The scooters were a blast and easy to park everywhere.
Scooter rental:
If you are looking to rent mopeds, definitely watch Farm Girls heartfelt testimonial about Sunshine Scooter Rentals. Here's the link: If you use a scooter, remember to be safe and go slowly especially at first. VERY IMPORTANT TIP: Remember to use mostly the rear brake and not the front, especially when cornering. Use only the rear break when going around corners. If you use front brake you can easily loose traction and slide your front wheel in sand and crash your scooter. Also lock your scooter when leaving it unattended. Sunshine Scooters have an ignition key-locking steering column so you wont need to carry a cable lock.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park:
Be sure to check out the great video (follow the embedded link) that Exoman made with Fort Zachary Taylor Park Historian, Deadeye Rick. Click here to see that: He gave us a great deal of insight and information on the unearthing, the history and the renovation/preservation challenges of the Civil war era- 170 year old fortress. The park is very enticing as it offers lots to see and do as well as fishing snorkeling and they even have a small cafe that serves food and beverages
Key West is the perfect place for music lovers, divers and beach bums and offers great food and grub at the myriad bars and restaurants that all seem to have that awesome tropical vacation ambiance and layout with all the big open windows and patio areas for dining, drinking and hanging out. If you don't hear a Jimmy Buffet song you know by heart playing at a bar, you'll probably hear him in your head. It definitely reminds you of why he was inspired to finish the song, Margaritaville there! You might not be chewing on spongecake but you'll surely be able to watch the sun bake all of those tourists covered with oil. They come in on the cruise ships. Oh, and don't worry about blowing out a flip-flop and cutting your heal on a pop-top... you can get rainbow flip-flops that last for ages and they really don't make those aluminum pop-tops any more!
Farm Girl and Exoman went to all of the famous spots like Sloppy Joe's Bar, Captain Tony's, The Hogs Breath Saloon as well as the beach bar and a lot of lesser known local venues. Virgilio's, on Duval behind La Trottoria restaurant, had one of the most awesome bands they saw the whole time.
If you like cemeteries, be sure to visit the Key West Cemetery, it is a fascinating place. Farm Girl and Exoman managed to find Joe Russel's tomb. Russel was the founder of Sloppy Joe's Bar and Hemingway's fishing buddy. There are quite a few interesting graves to find there.
