The yoga Catherine teaches has been inspired by the pioneering approach of Vanda Scaravelli. It's a gentle yet demanding form of Hatha yoga, which concentrates on developing core strength through releasing tension and creating length in the spine. It uses the breath and gravity to allow the spine to unfold like a wave, allowing the uninhibited opening and energising of the whole body.
Catherine began her yogic journey in her teens and had been practising for around 15 years, going to Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga - all kinds of classes, experiencing as much as possible before discovering Scaravelli Inspired Yoga.
Practising yoga now for over 30 years, Catherine still remains passionate and dedicated, and has shares her experience through regular Scaravelli inspired classes, workshops, retreats, intensives, holidays, teacher training courses and immersion courses.
Catherine never had the privilege of meeting Vanda, but she has worked with many of her key students such as Diane Long, Sophy Hoare and Sandra Sabatini. Catherine has also worked with John Stirk and Peter Blackaby, both well respected osteopaths and senior yoga teachers.
When Catherine began to work with John Stirk, and finally began to understand the importance of gravity. John became her teacher and mentor for 12 years, and they now collaborate on the Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Immersion course each year. John's insights into Vanda Scaravelli's life and work, and his own inspired approach to yoga and living has profoundly enriched Catherine's practise and teaching .

Roberto Scarcella Perino’s Piano Sonatas
Roberto Scarcella Perino has composed four piano sonatas. Although they have some elements in common each of them has got an identity of its own.
Unlike many composers of the second half of the twentieth century, Roberto views music as a communicative and theatrical art that must employ traditional classical-romantic musical forms. In this regard, the use of the sonata form (present in all initial movements), the liedform (prevalent in the intermediate pieces), the rondo or the variations is fundamental, and easily identifiable.
However, although these forms are traditional, Roberto's ideas are always expressed in a very personal style, and the result is never banal or easily predictable. Like Shostakovich or Prokof'ev, he uses classical forms to convey an emotional, sometimes very intimate, content.
What I always point out when I am asked to give my opinion on his music is that Roberto is not afraid of expressing feelings. I come from Liguria, where there is a common tendency to be very discreet, and for a person of my origin this is what makes him most admirable.
The Fourth Sonata is dedicated to Brian Fahey. In my opinion this is very similar to the First Sonata: the Allegretto has a comparable structure but is shorter and more compact. The delicate Berceuse is, to quote Roberto, a Yoga class: a moment of meditation and almost a suspension of time. In the Allegro danzante dances appear again, interspersed with a promenade that evokes memories of Mussorgsky. These dances are not Italian but Irish, in homage to the origins of the person this piece of music was dedicated to. There is room for virtuosity but not as significantly as in the Third Sonata where it almost conjures up Listz: here it is lighter and more relaxed, and very often reminds listeners of the use of violin in Celtic music.

A differenza di molti autori del secondo Novecento Roberto intende la musica come un’arte comunicativa e teatrale che deve impiegare forme musicali tradizionali, cioè classico-romantiche. A questo riguardo è fondamentale, e ben riconoscibile, l’utilizzo della forma-sonata (presente in tutti i movimenti iniziali), della liedform (prevalente nei brani intermedi), del rondò o delle variazioni.
Tuttavia, anche se i contenitori sono tradizionali, le idee di Roberto sono espresse sempre in uno stile molto personale, e con un risultato mai scontato. In maniera analoga a Shostakovich o Prokof’ev, l’uso delle forme classiche è finalizzato a trasmettere contenuti emotivi, anche molto intimi.
Quello che ripeto sempre a chi mi chiede un giudizio sulla sua musica è che Roberto non ha paura dei sentimenti ed è qui che lo ammiro di più, io che, da ligure, tendo ad una riservatezza forse eccessiva.
La Terza Sonata, dedicata a Stefano Albertini, è sicuramente la più ambiziosa. Il primo tempo, l’Allegro ma non troppo, è complesso e contiene un episodio fugato con un tema decisamente jazzistico. Il secondo movimento è un Valzerino un po’ svanito, con la funzione di allentare la tensione: quasi un omaggio a Rota e ai balli della balera. Nel Vivacissimamente siamo di fronte a un tour de force per il pianista, condotto dal compositore in maniera virtuosistica e senza alcuna timidezza: Roberto è particolarmente dotato nel riuscire a restituire all’esecutore un ruolo da protagonista, e non da semplice macchina per suoni, come è stato spesso il caso negli anni più recenti.
