#metoo in yoga - ON KICKSTSTARTER NOW
Crowdfunding on Kickstarter 6th March
#metoo will be discussed further in the documentary
The Yoga Industry: This documentary will discuss the values of the now billion dollar industry fuelled by the lack of standard and accountability for yoga. Yoga is at a place of it's evolution that there is a conversation here worth having. To talk about the ideals and values of the so called yoga industry we see today and questioning the direction and sanctity of what yoga may become tomorrow. Yoga has been redefined by marketing companies, social media platforms and the fitness industry without any understanding for what gives yoga it’s definition. Commercialism of yoga has edited away parts of it's fundamental elements to become more financially profitable forgetting yoga's intention and it's many limbs. In our efforts to protect the integrity of yoga unfortunately there needs to be a discussion about the negative affects of the industry. To bring to the light these issues and create a conversation for what is happening but most importantly show the alternative to this mainstream yoga industry. A yoga which still exist offline, a yoga which is not about clothing, latest equipment, Instagram marketing, yoga tutorials or yoga diets. Going back to yoga’s roots and opening a wider understand for yoga and its many lineages. Consequently through conversation we can inspire change for further generations.

Asana of the Day: One Legged Posterior
Stretches the spine, hamstrings and calves. Improves digestion, alleviates high blood pressure and sinusitis. Soothes the nervous system and reduces fatigue.
Asana is the sanskrit word for pose or position. Yoga classes consist of a progessive series of asanas that help to improve your physical, mental and even spiritual health. The word Yoga means to join together and it brings the body and mind together into one harmonious experience. The whole system of Yoga is built on three main structures: exercise, breathing and meditation. Regular daily practice of all three parts of this structure of Yoga produce a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body.
Numerous studies have shown the health benefits of yoga. Yoga can positively impact physical health by increasing muscle tone, flexibility and circulation as well as flushing toxins from the body, among many other benefits. In addition, the focus on breath helps to reduce stress and decrease blood pressure as well as improve energy.
Through a partnership with WXPN (88.5 FM), we present to you the Asana of the Day. Follow along here through the asanas presented in the order of a typical class. Ultimately, we will have 26 asanas for your education and enjoyment. Our highly experienced instructors, Barbara Moeller, MA, CYT, ERYT500, Director of Yoga Teach Training at the Lourdes Institute of Wholistic Studies and Michelle Carlino, BA, CYT, ERYT500, demonstate and thoroughly explain the asanans, as well as their individual health benefits. The History of Yoga with Debashish Banerji
Debashish Banerji, PhD, is former Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Philosophical Research in Los Angeles as well as an adjunct faculty member at Pasadena City College and the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is also the former director of the East West Cultural Center in Los Angeles. He is author of Seven Quartets of Becoming: A Transformative Yoga Psychology Based on the Diaries of Sri Aurobindo and also The Alternate Nation of Abanindranath Tagore, a book about his great grandfather. He edited an anthology about his great uncle, Rabindranath Tagore in the Twenty-First Century.
Here he describes the ancient Indus Valley civilization of India that reached its height about 5,000 years ago. It was a sophisticated, well-organized society that engaged in trade in ancient Sumeria and Egypt. We know from the artwork of this culture that yoga postures were practiced in something of a Tantric or shamanistic manner for the purpose of gaining power over animals and also was involved in the exercise of political power. The written language of this civilization has yet to be understood and translated. The Vedantic philosophers paid attention to the diurnal rhythms of day and night. From this they extrapolated to the notion of reincarnation. Just as we live many days in our life; so we experience many lifetimes in a larger cycle. In the Vedantic period, people were told that they did not need to seek the divine through the mediation of priests – but could enjoy direct access to the truth.

The Tradition of Vedic Chanting
UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2008
URL:
Description: The Vedas comprise a vast corpus of Sanskrit poetry, philosophical dialogue, myth, and ritual incantations developed and composed by Aryans over 3,500 years ago. Regarded by Hindus as the primary source of knowledge and the sacred foundation of their religion, the Vedas embody one of the worlds oldest surviving cultural traditions.
The Vedic heritage embraces a multitude of texts and interpretations collected in four Vedas, commonly referred to as books of knowledge even though they have been transmitted orally. The Rig Veda is an anthology of sacred hymns; the Sama Veda features musical arrangements of hymns from the Rig Veda and other sources; the Yajur Veda abounds in prayers and sacrificial formulae used by priests; and the Atharna Veda includes incantations and spells. The Vedas also offer insight into the history of Hinduism and the early development of several artistic, scientific and philosophical concepts, such as the concept of zero.
Expressed in the Vedic language, which is derived from classical Sanskrit, the verses of the Vedas were traditionally chanted during sacred rituals and recited daily in Vedic communities. The value of this tradition lies not only in the rich content of its oral literature but also in the ingenious techniques employed by the Brahmin priests in preserving the texts intact over thousands of years. To ensure that the sound of each word remains unaltered, practitioners are taught from childhood complex recitation techniques that are based on tonal accents, a unique manner of pronouncing each letter and specific speech combinations.
Although the Vedas continue to play an important role in contemporary Indian life, only thirteen of the over one thousand Vedic recitation branches have survived. Moreover, four noted schools in Maharashtra (central India), Kerala and Karnataka (southern India) and Orissa (eastern India) are considered under imminent threat.
