Not sure what The Missus found so exciting about three sleepers. But she loves trains. So I love her!
She got pissy when I asked her to turn around and get the tail end southbound.
We shot this video in front of the Jack London Inn, which is literally one of the worst (if not THE worst) hotels in the United States. If you are scoping out Expedia and looking for a hotel, just keep on looking. Transients, insects, rodents, stench. This place has it all.
On the other hand, there is another nearby hotel called the Inn At Jack London Square which is a very nice, reasonably-priced hotel. It used to be a Best Western. The Inn At Jack London Square really should sue the Jack London Inn. Or, better yet, buy it and tear it down.
We stayed at the Jack London Inn during our visit in 2013. It was adequate. When we stayed again the next year, it was a disaster.

Real estate developers paid for my room. I videoed their talk of estates in exclusive resort communities -- gated, guarded, served by crews of landscapers and street cleaners. Mansions in mountain resorts. Homes with swimming pools and docks on the coast of Florida. Sedona, Beverly Hills, Miami.
I could not afford this hotel or the restaurants or the room service.
Tea -- $5.50.
In Kenya, I tried to tell the tea pickers of the prices paid by Americans for the tea the Kenyans grew and harvested for market.
The Kenyans get 14 cents US for a kilo of fresh picked green tea. The raw tea then goes to a processing center, then to Mombasa for the auctions. Brokers sell the tea by the 1,000 kilo lot. From the port of Mombasa, the tea goes to factories in Europe and the United States.
In the Marriott, $5.50 for tea. The people who grew that tea and harvested it, of that $5.50, they got less than 1 US cent.
I don't know the cost of the room. The food? That went on the room charge. The corporation paid.
