Jacks River Falls, Waterfalls of North Georgia
Spent the weekend in North Georgia with some good friends. What an awesome adventure, the drive up from Atlanta to the mountains, jumping from town to town, hitting the trails and playing in the springs and waterfalls of North Georgia, it just doesn't get much better than this.
We hit the Jacks River Falls/Beech Bottoms trail around midnight and hiked most of the way with no flashlights, using only the natural light of the moon and stars to guide us. Once we got close to water we used flashlights for safety reasons only. Around 4am we hung our hammocks and took a short nap until daylight broke, then we spent some time jumping into the ice cold pools around the falls. When we were satisfied we made our way back to our camp right as the bottom of the clouds broke loose and dumped rain for the remainder of the day. Once we got a break from the downpour, we quickly broke down camp and hiked out, but found the once low water crossings to be nearly white water rapids. Needless to say, we got pretty wet on our way out, but our packs stayed dried as well as our extra clothing.
We headed out and drove 3 hours East to the town of Helen where we spent the night and hit another waterfall the next day. Unfortunately I left the cameras in the car so I don't have any footage of the second waterfall we visited.
This video is nothing more than a collage of video clips highlighting the events of our adventure. Although there is little dialogue, I assure you that you will enjoy the footage that was captured mainly with a GoPro Hero 4 shot in 1080p 60FPS.
Thanks for watching and as always I appreciate all your support.

Jacks River Falls Trail
We went hiking in the Cohutta Wilderness area in Fannin County, GA on a trail called Jacks River Falls. It was pretty cold and there were several icicles forming, as well as ice on some parts of the river. Very beautiful place to hike.

Snow Days in the Cohuttas | Lake Conasauga and Jacks River Falls
A rare December snow storm blanketed the Cohutta Mountains is several inches of powder. My brother Seth and I drove up to Lake Conasauga while the snow was still falling and walked the trail around the lake. Our lone footprints impressed the snowy trail, and the glistening Hemlocks were all the company we could ask for. The next day, we took a trip to Jacks River Falls. Even though much of it had melted, the snow added a nice accent to an already incredible waterfall.

North Georgia Waterfalls
#ilovervlife #georgiawaterfalls #vogelstatepark We were a few miles south of Blairsville, GA and took the afternoon to see some of the beautiful waterfalls in the area. All along Highway 19, we started at Vogel State Park, next to Helton Creek Falls and finished the day at DeSoto Falls. All are located along a 5 mile drive with easy access to each. We also stopped at a few spots along the way. A favorite is the Walasi-Yi Center and Mountain Store found at the top of Neel Gap located along the Appalachian Trail.

Jacks River Falls Hike - Full episode.wmv
We hiked the Jack's River Trail from the western trail head, upstream to the falls. This shows what all 22 river crossings look like at a low, summertime flow. It is about a 14.5 mile hike roundtrip. Very doable in one day if you're prepared and in good shape. Enjoy the journey and not the destination, because you'll usually find a flock of people at the falls, most of whom took the easy route down Beech Bottom trail to get there. Please be good to the wilderness, leave nothing behind (particularly trash and cigarette butts) and don't take anything but pictures.

North Georgia River Trail Hiking
Two day, twelve mile hike along the Conasauga River Trail in the Cohutta Wilderness in north Georgia. A beautiful hike, even with the thirty-eight river crossings that we encountered. Though challenging at times, Dixie wagged her tail and eagerly led us through each step of the way!
Cohutta Wilderness Penitentiary Branch and Jacks River Trail Overnight Part 1
Music: Overwhelmed by Big Daddy Weave
Part 1: I went on a spring equinox solo overnight hike of approximately 12-13 miles in the Cohutta Wilderness. Beginning at the Dally Gap parking lot (elev. 2600') near Blue Ridge, Georgia. I started out at the Hemp Top Trailhead and connected with the Penitentiary Branch Trail (elev. 3050') where I hiked through beautiful hardwood and hemlock forests while being soaked with rain. From there I dropped approximately 1200' in elevation down to Penitentiary Branch where I hung my hammock for an overnight.
Part 2: The next morning I connected with the Jacks River Trail (elev. 1700') at the Jacks River and made my first of many river crossings. In the approximately 6.5 miles back to Dally Gap I crossed the Jacks River 18 times. Since there had been several days of rainfall, the river was elevated and flowing rapidly. The video really doesn't show the difficulty of the crossings which were easily thigh to waist deep at times.
Make sure to be prepared for the river crossings and watch the weather forecast for the area prior to your hike. Rain equals high river levels and require hiking poles or a staff. Be safe. Keep hiking!
