The Jaivana cannon
Jaigarh Fort was a centre of artillery production for the Rajputs. It is now home to the Jaivana – at the time of its manufacture in 1720, it was the world's largest cannon on wheels of the Early Modern Era. The foundry where it was manufactured is also located here. A plaque at the entrance to the enclosure where the Jaivan Cannon is displayed gives relevant information on the history of the Cannon, its size and use. This cannon was never used in any battle as the Rajput rulers of Amer had friendly relations with the Mughals. This testifies to well-preserved features of fort. The cannon was fired only once with a charge of 100 kilograms (220 lb) of gunpowder and when fired covered a distance of about 35 kilometres (22 mi)

Worlds Largest Cannon????JAIVANA | Jaigarh Fort | Places to visit in Jaipur | Things to do
The Jaivana cannon, located at the Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur, is the largest wheeled cannon ever constructed. It was cast in 1720 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur, the administrator of the fort during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah. The formidable strength of its builder lay in the vast array of artillery and copious supplies of munitions which he maintained.
This giant weapon was never used in war. It is believed that the cannon was test-fired only once by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1720 with a charge of 100 kg gunpowder. The shot covered a distance of 35 kilometers which is now a pond by the villagers of Chaksu. The impact is said by many locals and tourist guides to be powerful enough to have caused a depression where a pond can be seen today. Legend has it that after it fired, pregnant women living nearby suffered miscarriages.
The cannon was kept near water for the gunners to dive in and escape the shock waves. But during the first firing, Maharaja Jai Singh, eight people and one elephant were reportedly killed by the shockwave and many houses collapsed in Jaipur.

दुनिया की सबसे खतरनाक तोप ||सिर्फ एक बार चली है उस जगह बन गया तालाब
It was cast in 1720, by Jai Singh II of Jaipur the administrator of Jaigarh Fort during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah. The formidable strength of its builder, the scientifically inclined warrior Sawai Jai Singh II, lay in the large number of artillery and copious supply of munitions which he maintained. Four elephants were used to swivel it around on its axis.Now it is located at the Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur (India).
The Jaivana Cannon was only fired once by the Jai Singh II, as a test-fire in 1720 and the then Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah is known to have attended the event before ousting the Sayyid Brothers from power. The most exaggerated myth claims that the weapon had a range of 40 km (25 mi), other sources say it is 35, 22 and 11 km (6.8 mi), although the exact range could perhaps never be determined without adequate scientific computation. Most sources, including local tourist guides agree that it was fired in the direction of Chaksu. The impact is said by many locals and tourist guides to be powerful enough to have caused a depression where a pond can be seen today.
Legend also says that when it was about to be shot, it was kept near a water tank. This was kept there for the gunner to dive in and escape the shock waves. But during the shot, he and eight other soldiers along with one elephant were reportedly killed due to the shockwaves. Many small houses in Jaipur collapsed as well.

Jaigarh Fort Jaipur - Jaivana Cannon - Largest Cannon on Wheels
Jaigarh Fort Jaipur is never conquered. The fort is majestically situated on the Cheel Ka Teela (Hill of Eagle), Aravali Range. You can get amazing view of Amer Fort from here as the fort over looks Amer. The fort was constructed for defense purposes and storing arms and ammunition. Built in 1726 by Jai Singh II, the fort’s was built to give protection to Amer Fort. The fort got its name after King Jai Singh. On my third day of my Jaipur trip, after spending enough time at Amer Fort, I moved to Jaigarh fort through a tunnel which connects both forts together. The fort being situated on hill top, offers panoramic view of Jaipur. Architecturally, this fort is similar to Amer Fort.

#Jaigarh fort #jaivana World's largest and biggest Canon at jaigarh fort Jaipur India
Legend has it that when Jaivana, the world's largest cannon on wheels at the Jaigarh Fort in Amer, Rajasthan, was fired, expectant mothers living nearby suffered miscarriages. But the foundry that made and assembled this massive weapon in 1720-it was then one of the world's oldest cannon factories-is falling apart and efforts to restore it to its former glory are on.
Its sheer size gives some idea of what a monumental task Jaivana's manufacture might have been. The 50 tonne cannon rests on six massive wheels, each 9 ft in circumference. The cannon is 31 ft long with a 20 ft barrel that can be raised or lowered by an 8 ft tall elevating screw. Four elephants were used to rotate it. The cannon is believed to have been fired only once- towards Chakshu, 22 km away. About 100 kg of explosives launched a 50 kg iron ball which created a huge depression when it landed. It is a pond now.
Jaigarh Fort was built in the 11th century and developed under Raja Man Singh, a trusted general of Emperor Akbar. Man Singh learned about casting cannons while serving in Afghanistan. He set up the gun foundry complex in 1584. Now, Kunwar Narendra Singh, son-in-law of Jaipur's erstwhile Maharaja Bhawani Singh, is restoring the factory that produced thousands of cannons for close to three centuries before shutting down owing to lack of demand.
The most prominent features of the cannon complex are the giant wheels with teeth measuring 9 inches for rotating cutters to drill holes in mammoth barrels. Each cutter is 9 ft long. Four pairs of bulls rotated the gear system made from thick wooden crossbars fixed to a central beam. It is these wooden parts that have eroded and need repair. Narendra Singh has hired a master carpenter to work on the missing parts. Delhi's National Museum too has been approached for help. Since the erstwhile kings used to supervise the making of cannons themselves, the royal pavilion where they were seated is also being renovated. In addition, a support system is being fabricated to ease the burden on the wheels of Jaivana that are wearing out under the cannon's weight.
With government assistance Narendra Singh believes the factory will once again produce cannons-mini replicas of the original. With its ancient heritage restored, it could also mean a tourist boom for Jaigarh.
