Japanese American National Museum promo
This promo video has been uploaded by the permission of the Japanese American National Museum.
This is a promo video for the Japanese American National Museum. On the 11th anniversary of 9/11, the Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Islamic Center of Southern California honored the Japanese American community for their solidarity in protecting the rights of all people. The Japanese American National Museum was one of these honorees.
Japanese Americans were first to defend Muslims against any backlash after 9/11. They knew too well the rage and hysteria that can fuel the most heinous crimes against any minority in a country as powerful as the United States.

Reflecting on the Dream to Build a Museum for Japanese Americans - Bruce T. Kaji
Bruce T. Kaji grew up in Los Angeles, California, and during World War II he and his family were imprisoned in the Manzanar concentration camp. After leaving camp, he served with the Military Intelligence Service in Japan as an interpreter for the war crimes trials. In this clip, he talks about how Japanese Americans were mistreated by the U.S. government and the need to create a museum to educate the public about that historical injustice. He would go on to become the founding president of the Japanese American National Museum.
This clip is an excerpt from Bruce T. Kaji's Densho oral history interview conducted July 28, 2010. To see the complete interview segment, visit the Densho Digital Repository (
