Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bangalore
Kids play with the hanging cylindrical shaped bells in Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bangalore in Karnataka. A demo of spaceship stands at the science park in Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium. The model here demonstrates transverse waves that propagate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the disturbance. Give a slight downward push to one of the aluminum pipes attached to the string and then release it. You will notice that the successive pipes execute an up-down oscillatory motion while the disturbance itself travels perpendicular to the direction of these oscillations.

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium - Bengaluru (Bangalore)
Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bengaluru (Bangalore) India has always had an understanding and a fascination for ...
Sky Theater @ Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium (JNP) Bangalore using hybrid projection technology
Sky-Theatre is the star attraction of Planetarium. It comprises 15 metre hemispherical dome on which projection is made. The centralized, air-conditioned theatre has 210 reclining seats with uni-directional viewing arrangement. Shows include history, anecdotes, science facts, cultural aspects, etc that keeps the visitor engaged with the program. The visuals are accompanied by a matching narration and music. This is achieved through a best in class projection and professional audio systems. Unlike cinema theatres, planetariums world over crave to achieve absolute black backdrop for projecting night sky and the Sky-Theatre at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bengaluru does exactly that.
Planetarium uses a hybrid projection technology for fulldome projections. At the center of the Sky-Theatre is one of the most advanced star projectors - ZKP4, designed and manufactured by Carl Zeiss, Germany. ZKP4, an opto-mechanical projector, enables realistic projection of night sky with pin point accuracy of star position for a given place, date and time. The power efficient LED based ZKP4 is also an educational tool that helps in teaching concepts like diurnal and annual motions; simulation of eclipses, observing skies thousands of years into past and future very accurately. With star fields etched accurately on micro-meter scale, light is projected only where required giving a truly dark night sky.
The ZKP4 is coupled with six digital projectors named VELVET which are made by Carl-Zeiss. These projectors blend together to produce a realistic rendering of 4k visuals on dome screen giving an immersive experience to visitors - a feel of being part of the scene. The digital projectors produce no stray light leading to absolute black backdrop in areas where no projection is happening. This gives sharp images on screen enabling an overwhelming starry sky above viewers.
The theatre uses a 5.1 professional surround system for audio. The aesthetic look of theatre incorporates acoustically engineered elements for maximum effectiveness of audio output by the strategically placed speakers.
The mirrordome projection system that became redundant was put to good use by refurbishing one of the existing lecture halls into a 40-seater capacity, digital skytheatre. The dome was specially fabricated and the room air conditioned. Public and school children who turned up at the planetarium during the renovation period were shown digital sky shows. We propose to use this mini-dome facility to impart astronomy education in all our academic programmes.
This mini-dome is available for public/students only on request.
Seating capacity : 40.

ಜವಾಹರ್ಲಾಲ ನೆಹ್ರೂ | Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bangalore show
Nehru Planetariums are the five planetariums in India, named after India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. These are located in Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune and Bangalore, plus there is a Jawahar Planetarium in Allahabad. Nehru Planetarium in Pune was the first one in Asia, established in 1954.
The Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi is situated on the grounds of Teen Murti Bhavan, officially known as 'Nehru Memorial Museum and Library', earlier the official residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and now a museum in his memory. In 1964, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund was set up to promote his ideas and it undertook to build the Nehru Planetarium with its aim being the promotion of astronomy education. This planetarium, like its namesake in Mumbai, was also inaugurated by Smt. Indira Gandhi on 6 February 1984. One of the major attractions of this place is the Soyuz T-10 which carried India’s first cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma to space, along with his space suit and mission journal.

There are 4 shows which are the main attraction of the planetarium:
Exploring the Universe
Exploring the Universe runs at 12:30 PM (Kannada show) and 4:30 PM (English version) and is, as the name suggests, an exploration of the vastness of the universe we live in. It is the first show exhibited by the planetarium after revamping their projection system and gives a basic knowledge of the various planets, nebulas and other space phenomena. The show runs for about 35 minutes and the kids are sure to love every bit of it.
Dawn of the Space Age
Dawn of the Space Age tracks humanity’s journey to become the space travellers we are today. The show begins by taking a look at the initial attempts in space explorations, gradually moving towards the first successful satellite launch, moon landings and so on.
Natural Selection
Natural Selection focuses on showcasing how Charles Darwin came to propose his Theory of Evolution. It tracks his voyage to the Galapagos Islands, the incredible diversity in animal species he observed there, and the various analyses he made during his lifetime. The program has a runtime of nearly 40 minutes and is mostly shown on public request.
Know Your Stars
Know Your Stars is a show that is conducted on the first Sunday of each month and is performed in collaboration with the Association of Bangalore Amateur Astronomers (ABAA). The focus of the show is to teach interested participants about the basics of how to read a sky chart, night sky viewing and so on. Special telescopes are set up through which the visitors can observe the various planets and stars around the Earth.
