NM True TV - The Springs - Jemez
There’s a pretty good hint in the name Jemez Springs that the area is replete with hot water boiling up from beneath the earth. Turns out this gorgeous mountain range sits atop what was once a supervolcano. Michael and the True TV crew draw the tough assignment to test the wide variety of hot springs available and, in a very relaxed state, share their soothing adventures with us.
Hot Springs - Jemez Springs, NM - Plant B
The water is not super hot, and this seemed normal according to the locals we ran into. Still very fun, very soothing. The view is absolutely to die for. We could not believe how green the greens are, especially when so much of the surrounding area is in a noticeably serious drought. Let's hear it for New Mexico!
GoPro | Hike to the McCauley Warm Springs - Jemez Springs, New Mexico
This was a fun hike. The springs are more warm than hot, but its still really cool. There are little guppies in the water that try to eat the dead skin off your feet. Really interesting sensation. Great views.

HISTORY: Near the corner of southwestern New Mexico -- midway between Silver City and Deming -- is Faywood Hot Springs, a natural geothermal high desert oasis. For centuries, this special place has lured many to its seductive, healing waters. Prehistoric peoples, Spanish explorers, weary westward travelers, soldiers, miners, health-seekers, a professional baseball team, and a multitude of everyday visitors from around the globe have found respite at the springs.
The hot water flows from an opening in the top of a distinct mound of material known as tufa. The tufa dome was created over countless centuries from endless gallons of flowing mineral water deposited on the nearly flat desert floor. This unusual geologic phenomenon is a remnant of extremely violent episodes of volcanic activity occurring in this part of the world some 20 to 45 million years ago, in an era when the nearby City of Rocks State Park was formed.
Prehistoric peoples probably revered the hot springs as a sacred healing place. The presence of circular depressions or mortar holes in the tufa dome suggests early use of the springs by these nomadic hunter-gatherers. Pottery and other artifacts found in the vicinity attests that the villagers from the nearby Mimbres pueblos knew of these warm healing waters, as did the later Apaches. It was an ideal place to erase the winter chill before migrating to the mountains for the summer.

McCauley Hot Springs NM june 2015
Hot springs–consisting of three pools at different
temperatures.
The top springs, consist of a pool of hot water, this
pool feeds into both lower pools. Top pool has vegetation on lower end of it and is the smallest pool. The second pool, is
warm, has more vegetation and contains Rio Grande Silvery Minnows (endangered species). However, the minnows
don’t seem to be bothered by visitors enjoying the
springs! Just keep in mind and respect that they are
endangered and protected. The third pool is quite a bit
cooler, and as it goes down the mountain, it feeds into
the creek below which later feeds into the Rio Grande
River.
You can get to the spring via Jemez Campground TH or Battleship Rock TH either is 1.5 miles to the springs and McCauley is in the middle..
