Jericoacoara & Paradise in Preá - Travel Deeper Brazil (Ep. 12)
A perfect day of adventure in Jericoacoara and Preá Beach in Northeastern Brazil -
After a long, seven-hour bus journey from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara, I arrived at the Rancho do Peixe Pousada (hotel) on Preá Beach where I fell in love with the private beach bungalow right on the beach.
The next morning I took my first Kitesurfing lesson right on property and was completely hooked after a few short hours.
Thanks to the favorable weather and wind conditions, Jericoacoara and Prea Beach is surrounded by some of the most popular coastline for Kitesurfing in Brazil.
From kitesurfing lessons at Rancho do Peixe, I hitched a ride in a buggy, across the beach and through the sand dunes of Jericoacoara National Park to the town of Jericoacoara.
I strolled around the quiet village for the afternoon before making my way up the giant sand dune at the edge of town to watch the sun set behind the Atlantic Ocean.
It was a beautiful day and well worth the trip from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara.
If you ever travel to Brazil and visit Northeastern Brazil, I highly recommend coming up and meeting Jeri and staying at Rancho do Peixe!

And how does the paradisiacal destination, only 300 kilometers from Fortaleza, remain untouched?
With lively restaurants, lively bars, and walking shoes, it offers programs for all tastes. Also, people come to enjoy the sky, always filled with stars.
The lagoons, by the way, are the best beaches of Jeri. The main one is Jijoca, divided in two parts: Lagoa Azul , rustic and with simple tents; And Lagoa do Paraíso , with comfortable lodges and restaurants offering colorful hammocks in the water!
The beach in the center of Jericoacoara, frequented by windsurfers in particular, has as a highlight the dune of the Pôr do Sol . Every day, in the late afternoon, natives and tourists climb the hill 30 meters of sand to enjoy the spectacle of the sun plunging into the sea. Then the village turns into a party! -

Selected by The Washington Post as one of the Top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, nicknamed Jeri, consists of blue lagoons, calm seas and huge dunes. History : n 1984, the area around Jericoacoara was declared an Environmental Protection Area. It became a national park in 2002. As a result, many restrictions for building and tourism were introduced to help preserve the area. The distance to bigger cities and limited road access also helped keeping the beach and the village isolated.
Fairly recently, Jeri was just a fishing village with little contact with modern life. Electricity was generated by diesel engines and street lights was provided only by the moon and the stars. After the selection by The Washington Post was published, tourism grew rapidly and the beach village became a popular destination. Electricity arrived in the village in 1998 and today a hot shower and air conditioning are no longer luxuries. However, since the illumination of the streets is forbidden by local law, street lights are still provided by the moon and the stars. Jericoacoara Beach - Ceará, Brazil
Jericoacoara is a small fishing village, mecca of windsurfing and kitesurfing, in Ceará, Brazil. Located around 300 km west of Fortaleza. Jeri, as it is better known, is the kind of idyllic place where many travelers end up deciding to stay for longer than they had originally planned.
Jericoacoara is a place removed from the hurried modern world of screeching sirens, maniac deadlines, traffic jams and endless lineups. A place where streets are paved with sand, where beaches stretch as far as the eye can see and where warm water marries with palm swaying breezes. Until about 20 years ago, Jericoacoara was still a secluded and simple fishing village. There were no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TV's, no newspapers, and money was rarely used.
Since 1984, the area around Jericoacoara was declared Environmental Protection Area (APA) and became a National Park in 2002. This brought many building restrictions and tourism controls, what helps to preserve the area. Electricity arrived in the village and today, hot showers and air conditioner are no longer luxury articles. However, street lighting is forbidden by local law.

We kick off the week by exploring remote beaches of Morro Branco, and Canoa Quebrada, then head further north for a few days in the sandy fishing village turned hippy mecca town of Jericoacoara, and finish the trip swimming in the lagoons and enjoying the sandy dunes at the incredible Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.

Jericoacoara, Brazil: Photography in Paradise

I made my way to the beautiful beach town of Jericoacoara, Brazil for a couple days of relaxation and photography, and the town was just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes, as a travel photographer, I work a bit too hard. I have to be reminded that I need to mix fun and work. In Jericoacoara I did just that. I managed to spend some time relaxing in hammocks, going out on touristy beach buggy rides, but I also went and shot some photography of the beautiful locations around town. One of those locations was Pedra Furada where I went for sunrise and shot some stars there as well.
In general, Jericoacoara might have been my favourite destination in Brazil. Not only is it absolutely beautiful, but it was the perfect mix of fun, relaxation, and work. I need more destinations like Jericoacoara, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro has the second largest municipal GDP in the country, and 30th largest in the world in 2008,[6] estimated at about R$343 billion (IBGE, 2008) (nearly US$201 billion). It is headquarters to Brazilian oil, mining, and telecommunications companies, including two of the country's major corporations—Petrobras and Vale—and Latin America's largest telemedia conglomerate, Grupo Globo. The home of many universities and institutes, it is the second-largest center of research and development in Brazil, accounting for 17% of national scientific output according to 2005 data.
Rio de Janeiro is one of the most visited cities in the Southern Hemisphere and is known for its natural settings, Carnival, samba, bossa nova, and balneario beaches[8] such as Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon. In addition to the beaches, some of the most famous landmarks include the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado mountain, named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; Sugarloaf Mountain with its cable car; the Sambódromo, a permanent grandstand-lined parade avenue which is used during Carnival; and Maracanã Stadium, one of the world's largest football stadiums.
Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Summer Paralympics—the first time a South American and Portuguese-speaking nation will host these events, and the third time the Olympics will be held in a Southern Hemisphere city. On 12 August 2012, at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, Mayor Eduardo Paes received the Olympic Flag, via Jacques Rogge, from London Mayor Boris Johnson. On Brazil’s endless coast, there are more kite beaches than one could count. But we went in search of a beach with that perfect combination of ripping wind, a vibrant community, and breathtaking sunsets. We couldn't quite settle on a favorite, so in this edition we're covering the kiteboarding beaches of Prea and Jericoacoara
Last time, we covered the Brazil downwinder experience with Surfin Sem Fim. After exploring 200km of Brazil’s northeast coast on a big downwind adventure, we needed to park our kite bags in one spot for a while! So we settled into a beachfront bungalow at Rancho do Peixe where we could have some kite sessions right out front on the ocean or take a short buggy ride to that famous Brazil flatwater.
A kiteboarding trip to Brazil is one that will be etched in your memory forever. You may find yourself planning your next trip back as soon as possible!
